Yale, the locks and hardware company, not the university, has announced a new smart lock product that it says is the slimmest currently available on the market. Called the Yale Assure Lock SL, this electronic deadbolt boasts a very slim body and a touchscreen display, the combination of which gives home and business owners a way to update their security … Continue reading
Google’s Trusted Contacts app has finally arrived on iOS, giving iPhone users the same location-sharing ability as the Android version of the app. With this, users are able to share their location with someone they trust — a friend or family member, for example — as well as giving these people access to certain information such as whether their phone … Continue reading

While Apple might be headquartered in the US, the majority of the company’s production operations are overseas in countries like China. Apple isn’t alone in this as many other companies tend to outsource production and manufacturing to China and India because labor is cheaper than back home, which means higher profit margins.
However it seems that Apple could be considering moving some of that production back home to the US, or at least that’s according to President Donald Trump, who in an interview with The Wall Street Journal was quoted as saying, “I spoke to [Mr. Cook], he’s promised me three big plants — big, big, big. I said you know, Tim, unless you start building your plants in this country, I won’t consider my administration an economic success. He called me, and he said they are going forward.”
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Apple’s plans to move some production to the US, which is also one of the agendas that President Trump has been pushing for ever since he took office. A recent report suggested that Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn could be announcing their US expansion plans this week, so we’re not sure if that’s related to what President Trump was saying, but we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Back in February it was reported that the beta of Google Chrome (back then) had signs of support for the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar. This is great news for Chrome users because so far, Apple’s Safari browser is the only major browser that offers up support for the Touch Bar, but not anymore thanks to the latest Chrome update.
In the latest version of Chrome, which is version 60, Google has updated the browser where it will now support Touch Bar which means that in addition to being able to browse and control the browsing experience the normal way with a keyboard and mouse, the Touch Bar assets will allow users to control their browser via the hardware feature as well.
For example users can use Touch Bar to go back or forwards on websites, refresh, add favorites, adding new tabs, and also bring up a search bar. We’re not sure how much faster or convenient this is compared to using keyboard shortcuts or a mouse, but perhaps for users who aren’t familiar with keyboard shortcuts might find it handy.
As AppleInsider points out, the support for Touch Bar in Chrome 60 remains largely unchanged from when Google previewed it earlier this year, meaning that in terms of functionality it is relatively barebones compared to what Safari offers, but perhaps that will change in the future.

Ever since Nintendo announced that they would be discontinuing the NES Classic Edition, prices of the console sold via third-party retailers and individuals have skyrocketed. For example it has been spotted on eBay that the console is retailing for as much as $400, which is way, way, way more than the original price of $60, but hey, that’s basic economics for you.
Now if you’re looking to own the NES Classic Edition, you’re in luck because the folks at ThinkGeek have somehow managed to get their hands on a bunch of the consoles. The only catch is that they are being sold in bundles with addition stuff, which means that they will retail above the $60 price tag. However we suppose the consolation here is that at the very least you won’t be paying more just because.
In fact you might even find a bundle that you might like. Basically these bundles include the console along with a bunch of toys/accessories, like a Tetris Lamp, or a Mega Man helmet, and more. Note that some of the consoles have already been sold out so if you hurry, you might still be able to get your hands on one. The prices vary from as low as $140 and will go up to $220, so head on over to ThinkGeek’s website for the details. In the meantime if you’d like to avoid another similar situation in the future, keep an eye out for the SNES Classic Edition’s release.

It is only natural that our loved ones care for us and worry about us from time to time, especially parents who might send their children to other states or even other countries for study, or for those who are sent overseas for work assignments, or just in general when they know that you’re out late partying and want to make sure that you’re safe.
This is one of the goal of Google’s Trusted Contacts app, which in an announcement by Google is finally available on iOS. The app was originally launched back in December 2016 where it was only available on Android, but like we said it seems that the app has finally made its way onto the iPhone.
For those unfamiliar with the app, basically this is an app that will share information such as your location with your loved ones (which you can set in the app itself). They are able to request for your location even when your phone is offline, and users can choose to proactively share their location everyday or in emergency situations, so that way at least your loved ones know where you are.
In addition to launching on iOS, Google has also made some updates to the app such as choosing how long to wait before your location is automatically shared with a trusted contact who has requested for it. Users can also now add trusted contacts by phone number, along with support for an additional nine languages. To get your hands on the app, head on over to the iTunes App Store or Google Play.

Yale is a company that has been dealing with locks for the home and office for decades. However with homes getting smarter, Yale has also decided to hop on board the IoT bandwagon by introducing smart locks that can be controlled using apps and through various IoT platforms such as Apple’s HomeKit.
Now if you are in the market for a new smart lock, Yale has announced its latest offering in the form of the Assure Lock SL. As you can see from the photo above, this is a deadbolt system which features a very minimal and sleek interface that relies on a capacitive touchscreen where users can enter their PIN in order to unlock the door.
The lock itself is priced at $169 and there is also the option to add support for platforms like ZigBee, Z-Wave, Samsung SmartThings, Wink, Alarm.com, Vera, and HomeKit. There will also be a network module available for an additional $49 that will store up to 250 PINs, 25 of which the lock can store.
Take note that this particular lock is a key-free lock, which means that it will be harder for thieves to try and get into your home. The only downside is that should the lock malfunction for whatever reason or if the battery dies, the only way to open the lock would be to apply a 9V battery to the terminals below the touchscreen as a backup power option, which makes it ever so slightly inconvenient.
