AT&T Primetime tablet delivers round-the-clock entertainment

att-primetimeA tablet is meant to be an alternative communications device to the smartphone, and many of us do happen to own a tablet that is a secondary productivity device. Well, while our smartphones might continue to be our primary portable media player that keeps us entertained on long road trips or across trans-Atlantic flights, this does not mean that we should discount the usefulness of a tablet. AT&T has come up with something interesting in the form of the AT&T Primetime, an exclusive tablet from the mobile carrier that comes loaded with entertainment and productivity features to help you get started right out of the box.

You will be able to pick up the AT&T Primetime for a mere $10 each month for 20 months in the form of an AT&T installment plan, or you can always settle for a $29.99 initial outlay which will be accompanied by a 2-year contract. This exclusive tablet from the mobile carrier will come with a slew of entertainment and productivity features such as TV Mode. TV Mode enables access to your favorite video apps such as DIRECTV in a single quick touch or swipe.

Not only that, AT&T Unlimited Plus or AT&T Unlimited Choice customers do have the option of adding in AT&T Primetime to their unlimited wireless plan as long as they are comfortable with the additional $20 monthly fee. Hardware specifications of the AT&T Primetime include a high-quality HD display, incredible Dolby audio sound via its dual front-facing speakers, a long-lasting 9,070mAh battery of up to 11 hours, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. In fact, getting started is so easy, since there is built-in Google Docs and split screen features that makes it all too easy to perform edits and multi-task at once. Any takers?

Xperia Ear Open-style Concept

#IFA2017 Sony is coming to IFA with a next-gen wearable, the Xperia Ear, a wireless headset packed with sensors and microphones. The best innovation of the Xperia Ear Open-style Concept is the ability to prevent the device to block your ear canal, so while you listen to your music, you can also hear the sounds around you. This is a great safety feature for people who love to wear headphone while walking or skate boarding in the streets.

The device was shown as a prototype at Mobile World Congress this year, and we saw a prototype briefly. I hope to try it again on the show floor here at IFA where the level of noise is high, so I will be able to provide a better appreciation of the technology.

Compared to the shiny silver device shown at MWC, the new prototype is different; it comes in two colors, black and pale gold.

The headset is equipped with multiple low power sensors: proximity, barometer, gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass. With those sensors, and the connection to the phone, Sony plans to make the device context-aware, so you will get the information you need when you need it.

To allow voice recognition in noisy environments so you can connect to Google Assitant or Apple Siri, Sony developed a new audio technology. Using four microphones placed on the top of the external part of the Xperia Ear, the device is capable of suppressing the noise even with microphones away from the mouth. Each ear piece has two microphones.

Thanks to the sensors, you can just nod your head to say yes or no to the virtual assistant and do the same to answer or decline a call. To skip to the next or previous track by shaking your head to the left or the right. We did not try this feature yet, and we hope to do it soon, it is available for Android only for now.

On the left earpiece, you can control the media by tapping once for play/pause, tapping twice for next song, three times for the previous song, and hold press up and down to control the volume.
On the right earpiece, you can tap once to access the voice assistant, and hold press up and done to control the volume.

The battery life is still to be confirmed. Sony plans to provide four hours on one charge and deliver quick charging time of 12 minutes for 2 hours of listening time. The charging case that provides three time full charge.

2019’s iPhones Could Sport Larger Displays

According to the rumors, this year’s iPhone 8 is expected to sport a new design and a new OLED display. The new design is said to feature a bezel-less display where we heard it could pack a 5-inch display but at the same time due to the lack of bezels, will allow the iPhone 8 to be roughly around the same size of the smaller iPhone 7s 4.7-inch display.

However it seems that come 2019, that could change because in a report from ET News out of Korea, next year’s iPhones are expected to pack much larger displays. The report claims that Apple is looking into launching two iPhones next year, one with a 5.85-inch display and the other with a 6.46-inch display, both of which are larger than the existing Plus model which has a 5.5-inch display.

Apparently Apple has already started development work with Samsung Display who will be supplying the OLED panels to the Cupertino company. The report goes on to add that prior to this, Apple was looking into display sizes of 5.28-inches and 6.46-inches, but apparently due to the demand for larger displays, Apple ditched the 5.28-inch model for the 5.85-inch model.

Now these displays sound quite monstrous, but assuming Apple maintains the bezel-less design, they might actually prove to be rather manageable. As it stands the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a 6.3-inch display, but the lack of bezels means that it isn’t quite as unwieldy as you might think, although your mileage might vary. Obviously it’s too early to tell if these rumors hold any weight, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

Logitech Unveils CRAFT Keyboard With Creative Input Dial

#IFA 2017 – If you’re a creative professional who uses a lot of editing tools but want a potentially faster and more efficient way to do your work, you might be interested to learn that Logitech has recently unveiled a new keyboard called the CRAFT Advanced Keyboard which comes with a feature designed for creative professional in mind.

The keyboard itself is pretty standard and comes with features like backlighting. It also has smart illumination where depending on the placement of your hands, will illuminate the keyboard accordingly and adjust its lighting. However its key feature is probably the Crown, which is basically a dial at the corner of the keyboard that users can use to perform certain actions.

For example it can be used to adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation tools in Photoshop, or used to create or adjust charts in Microsoft Excel, but basically because it will work with third-party apps, its potential is limitless and is really up to you how you want to take advantage of it. In a way it reminds us of the Surface Dial accessory launched by Microsoft back in 2016, but smaller and attached to a keyboard.

Of course this won’t come cheap as the CRAFT keyboard will be priced at $200 which means that for the average user, it might be a bit out of reach, but if you are interested it is expected to be released this coming October.

Of course these speakers are more than just its looks because Logitech has included quite a few interesting features, such as motion-activated backlit controls, high-end drivers, and also rear-facing port tubes.

It will also allow users to pair up to two Bluetooth devices at once, meaning that you won’t have to keep pairing/unpairing when using different devices. According to Philippe Depallens, vice president and general manager of Logitech Audio, “With MX Sound you now can have amazing audio in a product designed to complement even the most premium desktop environment. This exceptional speaker was designed from the ground up to provide an immersive experience whether you are streaming from your computer, smartphone or tablet.”

Ricoh Theta V 360-Degree 4K Camera Announced

#IFA2017 – These days taking just “normal” photos aren’t enough, and with virtual reality becoming more mainstream, the need to be able to take photos and videos in 360-degrees is becoming more necessary than ever. If you’re looking to create VR content, then you might be interested to learn that Ricoh has recently announced the Theta V 360-degree camera.

Note that this is not the first time that Ricoh has dabbled in VR because earlier this year, the company unveiled a 360-degree camera, so in reality the Theta V is not the first VR-capable camera by the company. However unlike the previous model, the Theta V is capable of capturing 4K footage which should help make 360-degree videos a bit more realistic due to the added details.

However in addition to being able to capture photos and video, the Theta V is also capable of spatial audio recording, high-speed image transfer, and is also capable of wireless remote playback, which Ricoh claims is the world’s first for a 360-degree camera. Of course whether or not you need such features is up to you, but Ricoh will be accepting pre-orders for it right away.

For those who are interested, the Ricoh Theta V is priced at $430 and will be available for pre-order via Ricoh’s website.
