A few years after launching the Xfinity on Campus service, Comcast says it’s now available for over 100 schools — up by 60 percent from last year. Originally, its streaming TV setup only worked through phones, PCs and tablets, but this fall new and…
Scientists have borrowed a few tricks from Mother Nature in order to create a drone capable of landing flush against a wall. The Multimodal Autonomous Drone (S-MAD) looks like a small airplane and flies like a glider, but on approaching a flat surfac…
Turns out all it takes for people to put down their phones is a once-in-a-lifetime event. In case you missed it, the eclipse took over the sun (and our lives) yesterday. Flocks of people headed to the towns and cities within the path of totality to c…
DJI is no stranger to imposing limits on drones unless you take certain actions, and that’s truer than ever right now. The company is releasing new firmware for the Spark this week to tackle problems with in-flight shutdowns, and it’s giving users an…
Mashing potatoes has pretty much remained unchanged for my entire life, as we continue to pulverize our potatoes with the same basic metal kitchen tool we’ve used for years. What did that potato ever do to you to deserve such a beating? Well, at least Mr. Potato Head’s last gasps for breath will be drowned in butter and heavy cream.
Now, thanks to the miracles of science, you’ll soon be able to mash your potatoes with the jet blast of a rocket ship.
Lior Bartal and Ototo design’s whimsical Space Masher will take your mashers to new heights, as it blasts off toward the ceiling of your kitchen. I can only imagine it’s on a mission to a far-off, exotic planet covered with broccoli trees, where it rains cheddar cheese sauce.
If you’re ready to give your potatoes the upgrade they deserve, the Space Masher is available for pre-order now for $17(USD), and starts shipping this September.
As you might have heard, Final Fantasy XV is expected to find its way onto the PC in the future. However if you don’t really fancy yourself a PC gamer and more of a mobile gamer, not to worry as Square Enix has got you covered as well because Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition has been officially announced.
As the name suggests, this is the mobile version of Final Fantasy XV. Of course it won’t be a 100% replica of the actual game, and instead it will feature a more cartoony chibi style of graphics which we have to say looks incredibly cute. There will be 10 episodes that players can play, although you will have to pay to unlock them, with the first episode being free so that gamers can get a taste of what’s to come.
According to Square Enix’s announcement, “The FINAL FANTASY XV POCKET EDITION for iOS, Android and Windows 10 devices, to be released later this year, is an all-new adventure that retells the beloved story of FINAL FANTASY XV, giving fans and newcomers alike the freedom to journey through Eos whenever and from wherever they want.”
There is no specific date mentioned for its release, but it is expected to see a release this coming fall, which we guess should be in the coming months, so do keep an eye out for it if it looks like a game you might be interested in.

It has been a while since we last saw a new BioShock game, but regardless it is still one of the more widely-regarded RPG franchises in recent gaming history. In fact did you know that the franchise has recently turned 10 years old? To celebrate this milestone, 2K Games has announced a special Collector’s Edition version of the game.
This Collector’s Edition will come with Bioshock: The Collection, which is basically a collection of the BioShock games that have been released to date and remastered in Full HD 1080p so that it looks better on modern machines. It will also come with an 11-inch statue of Big Daddy and Little Sister, who are pretty much iconic characters of the BioShock franchise.
The statue will also come with lights and sound and a motorized drill to help make it more “realistic”. It will also come with a numbered certificate of authenticity, and the entire bundle will cost gamers $200. The Collector’s Edition will be exclusive to GameStop and the 2K Store and will be released on the 14th of November for both the PS4 and Xbox One, so if you’re a fan, this is a bundle you could be interested in. In the meantime 2K Games has also announced that BioShock Remastered will finally be making its way onto the Mac.

When it comes to online gaming, things like lag matter, where clearly the less lag there is the better it is for the player, especially in games where split second decisions need to be made. There are of course a variety of things that can affect one’s internet latency, and while some of it is out of control of the user, some of it is.
If you’re a gamer looking to maximize their online performance and want to be able to do something about your latency, then you might be interested to learn that Linksys has announced their new WRT32X router, which according to the company has been designed for gamers in mind.
Basically this will see Linksys work together with Rivet Networks and will incorporate the company’s Killer Prioritization Engine, which when paired with compatible devices from Razer, Alienware, and MSI, will be able to reduce ping times by as much as 77%. This is achieved by the hardware working with your network to prioritize gaming and video networking traffic above all else, which is very different from what regular routers do.
Basically this means that if someone is surfing the web and you want to play a game, they are going to find their speeds slowed down in favor of your gaming needs. Whether or not the router can live up to its claims remains to be seen, and with a price tag of $300, we suppose this router is aimed mostly at the more hardcore gamers.

Remember last month Verizon was found out have been throttling videos streaming on Netflix? According to the carrier at that time, they were simply conducting a “test”, but it seems that this test was a prelude to something else, which is a bunch of new unlimited data plans that unfortunately will throttle your video streams.
Verizon has recently announced that their previous unlimited data plan is now being split into three different options: Go Unlimited which is priced starting at $75; Beyond Unlimited which starts at $85 for the first line, and Business Unlimited. Naturally all three plans will differ from each other in terms of features offered, but one common thread that they have is that your video streams will be throttled in terms of quality.
For example Go Unlimited will cap your video streaming resolution at 480p on smartphones and 720p on tablets, while Beyond Unlimited will improve that slightly with 720p on smartphones and 1080p on tablets. Using your phone to tether to a laptop will also see video quality capped. According to Verizon, they claim that users won’t be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p streams, whether or not that is true depends on the user, but at the same time we’re sure that customers would at least like to be able to choose for themselves.
We suppose the alternative would be seek another carrier or choose a capped data plan in which these restrictions aren’t imposed. As for customers who are on the previous plans, the bad news is that eventually your videos will be throttled to the same quality as Beyond Unlimited plans. Everything else will remain the same as what you’re paying for now save for video quality.

Recently the folks at HMD Global took the wraps off their latest Nokia handset in the form of the Nokia 8. This is a big deal for both Nokia and HMD as this phone represents the first Nokia flagship smartphone ever since the Finnish company got back into the mobile business. However during the announcement, no word was made on whether it would launch stateside.
The handset was announced with pricing in Euros, which we guess made it pretty obvious that it would be arriving in Europe at least, but what about the US? The good news for fans in the US is that the handset could see a launch stateside, according to a report from NokiaPowerUser, although their reports claims that it won’t be the same phone.
According to their sources, it seems that HMD does have plans to bring the Nokia 8 to markets like the US and China, but it will not sport the same specs as the version that was announced. However it is also not expected to differ too greatly as it seems that the US and China variants might just come with different RAM and storage configurations, but other than that hopefully the Zeiss camera and OZO audio features will remain intact.
Take it with a grain of salt for now as HMD has yet to officially announce anything, but check back with us at a later date where hopefully there will be more details to share.
