Galaxy J5 (2016) Android 6.0 Nougat Update Being Prepared

Google is about to release the next major Android platform update and there are still many devices out there that have yet to be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. Samsung’s Galaxy J5 (2016) happens to be one of those devices. The company might finally be preparing the Nougat update for this handset.

The Galaxy J5 (2016) has been spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance where it was running Android 7.0 Nougat. The handset running the latest version of Android has now been certified by the agency.

These certifications are normally viewed as a positive indication that the update in question is due to be released in the near future. That’s how it has always been in the past so there’s good reason to believe that Samsung might release the Nougat update for the Galaxy J5 (2016) in the near future.

Still, Samsung is yet to confirm when it’s going to release this update for the Galaxy J5 (2016). Those who own the handset would undoubtedly want the company to come out with it as soon as possible.

Google is due to launch Android O in the very near future. The next major platform update is reportedly going to be called Android “Oreo,” Google is likely to confirm the official moniker by tomorrow.

The game is going to be released for PC a year after it came out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The official announcement was made at the Gamescom event in Germany. A new trailer was revealed during a press conference by NVIDIA.

“With the help of Nvidia, we are creating a stunning visual experience,” said Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy XV.

The title coming to the PC is going to be called Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition. High-resolution textures are promised for the game as well as support for Dolby Atmos sound, enhanced grass, hair, fluid, fire, and smoke simulation, advanced shadow algorithms, and more.

Samsung Reportedly Has Dibs On Snapdragon 845 Chip for Galaxy S9

Samsung manufactures Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip that powers most Android smartphones this year. It was in a unique position so the company got the first batch of mass-produced chips all to itself. That meant that the Galaxy S8 was the first major flagship on the market in 2017 to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor. New reports suggest that history will repeat itself next year for the Galaxy S9.

A report out of China claims that Qualcomm and Samsung have already come to an agreement on the supply of chipsets for its next-generation flagship smartphone. Samsung is said to have dibs on the Snapdragon 845 chip for the Galaxy S9.

If this is true then the Galaxy S9 is likely going to be the first major handset on the market next year that’s powered by Qualcomm’s new flagship mobile processor. It would also mean that Samsung’s rivals who launch new devices around the same time will have to opt for older chipsets.

While it’s plausible that Samsung and Qualcomm might come to the same arrangement that they reached this year for the Galaxy S9 in 2018, nothing is set in stone just yet. It’s still too soon to be sure of anything about the Galaxy S9 so take this with a grain of salt.

We’re certainly going to hear a lot more rumors and reports about the Galaxy S9 before the handset is eventually unveiled by Samsung officially early next year.

Elon Musk Wants The UN To Curb Artificial Intelligence Weapons

Elon Musk is one of the many influential voices calling on the world to take cognizance of the threats posed by artificial intelligence. While other tech giants like Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg tend to disagree with him, there are many who share Musk’s views on artificial intelligence. Musk has now put his name to an open letter to the United Nations that’s signed by more than 100 other influential people calling on the UN to regulate weapons systems powered by artificial intelligence.

The letter asks the United Nations to “protect civilians” from the misuse of AI-powered weapons. They are of the view that tyrants and despots will come to use smart, AI-powered killing machines which will be very detrimental.

The group believes that smart weapons that don’t require a human to control them run the risk of becoming a “pandora’s box” that humanity will find difficult to close once it opens. The letter doesn’t just provide recommendations to the United Nations. It also provides solutions.

It details a kind of framework that can be developed by the United Nations to ensure that this technology is not created and deployed.

It’s not surprising that Musk has put his name to this letter, given that he’s previously said that artificial intelligence is a greater threat to the world than North Korea.
