Quake Champions Early Access Kicks Off August 22

If you grew up playing FPS titles like Quake, then there’s a good chance you might have heard of the latest installment in the Quake franchise in the form of Quake Champions which was announced back in E3 2016, and if you can’t wait to get your hands on it then you might be interested to learn that Bethesda has announced the game’s early access.

Early access for Quake Champions will kick off on the 22nd of August. According to Tim Willits, Studio Director, id Software, “The Early Access version of Quake Champions is, obviously, a work-in-progress, but represents a solid and robust version of the game, with four modes, 11 Champions, a variety of maps, and a thriving community of fans. Early Access will allow us to work closely with players to improve the game and add additional features before the official launch of Quake Champions in the coming months.”

However before you get too excited, know that early access is something you’ll have to pay for. In order to gain early access, you will have to purchase the Quake Champions “Champions Pack” which will unlock all of the champions in the game, future champions that will be released, loot chests, and also an exclusive early access skin in the form of the Ranger character.

We should note that Quake Champions is a free access game, meaning that you don’t have to pay to play it. However playing for free will limit you to using just one character, but if you’re fine with that then we guess by all means go ahead.

HBO’s Twitter Accounts Have Been Hacked

HBO is definitely not having a very good couple of weeks, what with one of their distributors purposely leaking a Game of Thrones episode, and not too long ago it was discovered that the company’s servers had been hacked in which hackers were threatening (and have since) leaked some of the company’s shows.

Now it seems that HBO’s Twitter accounts have also been hacked (and since restored) by a group calling themselves as OurMine. However this particular breach did not last too long as HBO seemed to be able to regain control of their accounts and deleted the hacker’s tweets within an hour of it being breached.

We suppose the severity of the Twitter hack isn’t quite as bad compared to their servers being hacked, and it is also not the first time we’re seeing companies have their Twitter accounts hijacked. However like we said, combine the Twitter hijacking with the recent server hacks and leaks and it definitely seems like HBO is having a pretty rough time at the moment.

Some are speculating that the HBO hack could be much worse than the Sony hack, which was already pretty severe back then. Last we heard the hackers were demanding millions worth of bitcoin as ransom, in which according to a leaked email, HBO tried to counter with $250,000 and to treat it as a “bug bounty”.

YouTube Music Head Claims They Pay More Royalties Than Other Services

When it comes to royalties being paid for music streaming, it is a bit of a contentious issue as many artists have in the past taken issue with how they are being paid, like back when Apple Music originally did not plan to pay artists royalties during the free trial (they later changed their minds).

However in a recent post penned by YouTube Music’s head Lyor Cohen, it seems that the company is priding itself in the fact that they pay more royalties per stream compared to the competition. “At over $3 per thousand streams in the U.S., YouTube is paying out more than other ad supported services.”

Cohen’s statement is in response to the claims that YouTube isn’t paying as much as the competition, which he admits that it was also his understanding and belief before he joined the company and led their music efforts. “For instance, critics complain YouTube isn’t paying enough money for ad-supported streams compared to Spotify or Pandora. I was one of them! Then I got here and looked at the numbers myself.”

That being said, YouTube Music’s availability is still relatively limited unlike other streaming services that have expanded globally rather quickly. The service is based on a subscription which is similar to others at $9.99 a month.

Twitch Will Let You Filter Overwatch Streams By Hero

One of the ways that you can improve yourself when it comes to video games is by watching professionals play. This is why replays and live streams are quite popular because watching a professional play can give you some insight on mistakes that you’re making, new tactics, perspective on a strategy, and so on.

Now if you’re an Overwatch gamer and you’re trying to master a particular hero, you might be interested to learn that Twitch has announced that they’ll be introducing a new filter feature for Overwatch streams in which viewers can filter streams based on the hero that they want to check out.

According to Twitch, “Die-hard Tracer fan? Want to pick up some tips so you can finally master Genji? We’ve got you covered. Use the filter on the Overwatch directory to find the hero you’re looking for.” These new filters will also be applicable to those who are watching Hearthstone streams, where viewers can filter based on hero class and game mode.

Twitch also claims that as far as streamers are concerned, they don’t have to do anything new or change any settings. Instead the company will be relying on computer vision and machine learning to determine what’s going on in your game in order to filter them based on the criterias we mentioned above.

Reddit Testing Direct Video Uploads Onto Its Website

Pup makes most important decision of his life. from aww

For the longest time since its inception, Reddit usually required users to turn to third-party hosting services if they wanted to upload photos or videos. However last year the company started to allow users to upload photos directly to its website, thus making it easier for users and also make it a less complicated situation.

Now it looks like Reddit wants to do the same for videos. According to Reddit, “That’s why we’re excited to announce the extended rollout of Reddit video beta, which makes it easier than ever for redditors to capture, upload, and share videos and gifs with all their favorite communities.” Just like native image hosting, this will be for video instead and will be a relatively straightforward process.

This is applicable to both the desktop version of Reddit and also the mobile version, where users who have the official Reddit app will be able to record video within the app and upload it to the website. So far only two video formats are supported at the moment which includes MP4 and MOV files, and are capped at 15 minutes in length, so don’t expect to see full-length movies uploaded just yet.

Users will also have the option and ability to edit MP4 files into GIFs with their native GIF converter. The mobile app will offer added functionality by letting users trim their videos within the app. The feature hasn’t been rolled out in full yet so if you don’t see it, then we guess you’ll just have to wait.
