These 2 SnapChat tips just fixed my phone

I just made to TINY changes to SnapChat and fixed two relatively giant issues with my phone. The app requests a bundle of permissions when it’s first downloaded on a smartphone – that can be an issue. But it’s not unfixable. As a couple of Reddit-based smartphone users made plain to me over the past 24 hours: SnapChat causes some … Continue reading

Handmade Wooden Pinball Machines Feature Wonderful, Whimsical Illustrations

I’ve always loved playing pinball machines. I even have a classic 1990s Terminator 2 pinball machine in my basement. But not everyone has the spare cash or space needed to have a full-size pinball machine in their house. For those of you looking for something a little smaller and less expensive, these handmade pinball machines look pretty neat.

Each of these wooden pinball machines is handcrafted by designer Anti Saar and KolmElu. The machines feature working flippers, nails, and rubber band bumpers to bounce their balls around. While they’re quite primitive in terms of gameplay, what makes these pinball machines truly special is the artwork.

I love the illustrations, which come from various artists, and range from whimsical images from the pages of a children’s book, to images of monsters and architecture. They’ll make a great addition to a kid’s room, basement, or even an office.

Each table measures 90 x 44 x 22 cm (~35.4 x 17.3 x 8.66 in) and sells for $182.50 (USD) over on Etsy.

Facebook Will Eliminate Video Clickbait From News Feed

Facebook continues to tweak its News Feed to ensure that its billions of users across the globe only see stories and posts that are most relevant to them and their interests. It continues to ensure that low-quality posts are downranked and that users don’t have to deal with spam in their News Feed, which is where they spend the majority of their time on the world’s largest social network. Video clickbait is next up in Facebook’s crosshairs. The company has said that it will soon eliminate video clickbait from News Feed.

Facebook will actively prevent video clickbait posts from appearing in users’ News Feed. It’s going to target posts that have a fake video play button embedded into an image as well as videos of static images.

Spammers have been exploiting these methods to take advantage of the fact that Facebook’s algorithm promotes videos, particularly longer ones. These methods have been used by spammers to trick users into clicking links that direct them to low-quality websites and also expose them to malicious ads.

Facebook says that publishers who rely on these intentionally deceptive practices should expect to see the distribution of such posts to “markedly decrease.” Most Pages won’t see any significant changes to their distribution in News Feed if they have not been using these methods to trick users into clicking on links.

The company adds that the algorithm changes which will demote video clickbait posts are going to roll out for all users across the globe over the next few weeks.

Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 Bundle Is A Walmart Exclusive

Nintendo today announced the launch of a new bundle for its current-gen Switch console. Fans in the United States will finally be able to get their hands on neon pink and green Joy-Con controllers. They are a part of the Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle that the company has announced today. This bundle is only going to be available from one retailer in the country.

Nintendo confirmed today that the Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle will be available in the United States exclusively from Walmart. The bundle includes the console, the neon pink and green Joy-Con controllers, a carrying case, and a copy of Splatoon 2.

Nintendo is going to charge $379.99 for this bundle and it’s going to be available for purchase exclusively from Walmart starting September 8th. Those who already own a Nintendo Switch and just want to buy the colorful controllers appear to be out of luck, at least for now.

The company isn’t selling the neon pink and green Joy-Con controllers separately in the United States even though these accessories have been available for players in Japan and Europe ever since Splatoon 2 was released.

Nintendo’s press release does mention that this bundle provides fans in North America “their first chance to get their hands on that Joy-Con color combination.” This can be taken as a subtle indication that the colorful controllers might eventually be sold separately in the U.S.
