A defense company put a machine gun on a drone

Duke Robotics, a military contractor, has produced a video for their unique and uniquely dangerous new tool, TIKAD. This drone platform looks fairly basic – a custom multi-rotor drone with a chassis on the bottom to hold what looks like a stripped down machine gun, sniper rifle, or grenade launcher – but what it suggests about the future of warfare is pretty scary. Essential Phone Available For Pre-Order From Sprint, Best Buy, And Essential

Essential unveiled its very first smartphone over a month back. The company missed its own launch deadline for the handset. The company’s founder Andy Rubin said last week that Essential will confirm when its first smartphone will be available. Those who have been waiting to order it can now do so. The Essential Phone can now be pre-ordered from Best Buy, Sprint, and Essential itself.

Essential and Best Buy are both selling the Essential Phone unlocked and off-contract for $699. Sprint is the exclusive carrier partner for this smartphone in the United States. Nevertheless, both versions of the handset are compatible with all major carriers in the country.

Customers who purchase the handset from Essential can get the 360 camera module for the new flagship for an additional $50. This promotional pricing for the camera module is only being offered for a limited time.

Sprint is also offering its own launch date for the handset. Customers can get it on the carrier’s Sprint Flex Lease program for 50 percent off so their monthly payment for the device will be $14.58.

Essential’s first smartphone is guaranteed to receive Android OS updates for 2 years and the company promises to release monthly security updates for its device for 3 years.

Google Home Voice Calling Now Available In The U.S.

At its annual I/O developers conference this year, Google confirmed that it will soon launch hands-free voice calling for the Google Home smart speaker. It’s a bit different from Amazon Alexa’s equivalent feature which requires both people to have an Amazon account. Google Home uses VoIP technology to call standard phone numbers.

Google has now started to roll out this feature for users in the United States and Canada. Users don’t need to go through any setup procedure in order to use this feature. All they need to do is give a relevant command to Google Home, like “Hey Google, call George.”

Granted, users will have to use Google Contacts if they want to call people by name. If they want to call a business, Google will search for the number and then place the call for them. Commands like “Redial” can also be given. To hang up the call users can just say stop or tap on the top of Google Home.

Since Google Home will rely on VoIP to call numbers, the recipient will see No Caller ID or Unknown when they get the call, so it would be best to inform your contacts that you will be using this feature to call them so that they don’t ignore your calls inadvertently.

Users have the option to link their Project Fi or Google Voice number through the Google Home app so that that number can be used for calling. There are some limitations to keep in mind. Google Home can’t call 911 while international and premium rate numbers will only work when a Project Fi or Google Voice number has been configured.

Movado Connect Luxury Android Wear Smartwatch Released

Several luxury brands have announced over the past few months that they will be coming out with their own Android Wear-powered smartwatches. Movado is one of them. The company is best known for its conventional fashion watches but it’s also following the smartwatch trend now by launching one itself. It has launched the Movado Connect luxury Android Wear smartwatch.

Movado’s design language, even with its conventional watches, has largely been minimal. Its watches normally don’t have a lot of buttons and the dials are kept clean and tidy.

We see that design language carry over to the Movado Connect Android Wear smartwatch as well. It’s actually one of the most minimal smartwatches on the market today.

The smartwatch is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor with 512GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It features a 1.39 inch 400×400 pixel resolution AMOLED display. Additional features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 300mAh battery.

It also has an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, mic, and NFC for Android Pay. It doesn’t have a heart rate sensor or GPS so those who want that functionality should look elsewhere.

Prices for the Movado Connect smartwatch start at $595. The price goes as high as $995 for the “ion coated” gold models. Movado is selling its smartwatch exclusively through its online store for now.

Huawei Mate 10 Launch Date Confirmed

Every year in the fall, we’re treated to several new flagship smartphones from the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. Samsung has already confirmed when it will be unveiling its new flagship smartphone. We’ve been hearing rumors about Huawei’s contender for a few weeks now. The company has finally sent out the invites confirming the Huawei Mate 10 launch date.

The Chinese manufacturer has sent out invites to the press for an event which will take place in October. It’s going to unveil the Huawei Mate 10 at the event.

Huawei’s invite doesn’t really reveal much about the upcoming handset. It’s just a basic invite with a “10” figure etched in the background. The invitation reads “Meet the device worth waiting for.” Clearly, Huawei thinks this is the device you should be picking up this fall.

The Huawei Mate 10 launch event is going to take place on October 16th, 2017 in Munich, Germany. As you would have guessed by now, it’s going to be an invite-only affair.

Huawei will officially confirm all of the details that we should know about the Huawei Mate 10 at its event in October. Pricing and availability information will also be confirmed on October 16th. The flagship will take on the likes of the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 so it really has to bring its A game.

Skype’s New Design Lands On Desktops

Microsoft introduced a radical Skype mobile redesign a couple of months back. Even though it hasn’t been very well received so far, the company wants to see what desktop users think about it. That’s why the new Skype design has now landed on desktops. The next-generation of Skype is only available in preview on desktop PCs right now. The company itself says that the work isn’t complete as yet and that it needs feedback from users.

The new Skype Preview for desktop has been designed to take full advantage of the increased screen real estate on desktops. It puts chat front and center. New features such as real-time screen and photo sharing make group chats livelier.

Skype Preview for desktop also gets @mentions, message reactions, and a new notification panel to help users stay on top of their day. There’s a new chat media gallery which makes it easier to find shared content such as links, documents, and media.

There are new in-call reactions and users get the ability to enhance their group call experience with drag and drop ease. These features are already being rolled out for Skype for Windows 10 users.

Those who own a non-Windows 10 PC or a Mac can experience these changes by downloading Skype Preview starting today at Skype Insider.
