'Hope Floats' is a seaborne bot that spams lawmakers with calls

On a plain white wall at a large Brooklyn gallery, a seemingly old-fashioned phone booth sits about five feet off the ground. The words “Hope Floats” are painted in white on the black box, which houses a computer, a screen, a keyboard and a handset….

Canon EOS M10’s Successor Rumored To Be Known As The M100

While Canon’s DSLRs are well-known and have a pretty solid reputation around the world amongst professional photographers, the company’s mirrorless efforts haven’t exactly been particularly well-received, at least not compared to Canon’s competitors like Sony or even Fujifilm.

Now we have heard that Canon could have a new camera in the works that would be the successor to 2015’s EOS M10, which last we heard could be known as the EOS M20. However in a report by Nokishita Camera (via Canon Rumors), it seems that the EOS M10’s successor could actually be known as the EOS M100.

Of course nothing is official yet, but Nokishita Camera has in the past been pretty solid and accurate when it comes to leaks and rumors, so perhaps the latest report could be trusted (but take it with a grain of salt anyway, just to be safe and avoid disappointment). The specs of the EOS M100 are unknown right now, but some rumored features include three color options, and also a couple of different bundles available.

This includes the body-only option, a bundle that comes with an EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, or a double zoom lens kit. Nokishita Camera also claims that the camera will be announced within a week, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information.

Alleged Images Of 60-inch OLED Apple Television Leaked

Ever since Walter Isaacson’s biography on Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was published, one particular segment of the book managed to capture everyone’s attention, and it was a portion where Jobs was quoted as saying that he had “cracked” the code to building a TV (assuming current TVs need “fixing”).

This fueled rumors that Apple could be working on a television set of their own, a rumor that has persisted for a couple of years before things went silent, or at least until now where images posted onto Weibo (via Benjamin Geskin; via 9to5Mac) made their rounds on the internet, showing off what is allegedly a 60-inch OLED television made by Apple, or at least a prototype that is being tested.

Now whether or not the images are real remains to be seen, but as 9to5Mac points out, blurry photos are usually a good sign of it being fake as it makes it hard to tell if it is the real deal. Alternatively one possibility is that just like many companies, Apple could be working on prototypes and exploring new product ideas, although whether or not these products are commercialized is a different story.

Also as 9to5Mac notes, televisions are a highly competitive business which means that for a company that enjoys high profit margins, creating a device that will last users for years on end doesn’t seem like something Apple would do, but in any case it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt.

Apple Reportedly Setting Aside $1 Billion For Hollywood Programming

It is no secret that Apple wants to break into Hollywood with its original programming. The company has launched a couple of series so far, like Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps, although admittedly neither have really been received too favorably, but it seems that isn’t going to deter Apple from trying harder.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal (via MacRumors), Apple has reportedly set aside a $1 billion “war chest” that the company will be using towards further its goals of breaking into Hollywood. Considering what cash-rich company Apple is, we guess this doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.

This money will be used to help procure and produce as many as 10 television shows. The fund is also said to be controlled by veterans in Hollywood, such as Jamie Erlicht and Zack van Amburg who were hired by Apple back in June. Exactly what kind of shows we might be able to expect remains to be seen, but we reckon Apple will probably need some big hitters if they’re hoping to generate more interest.

It is also unclear if these shows will be part of Apple Music or if Apple plans to offer them separate of the Apple Music subscription, but until Apple makes it official, do take it with a grain of salt for now.

Motorola Patents A Phone With A Self-Healing Display

Dropping a phone and seeing its screen crack is a terrible feeling, but it seems that if Motorola has it their way, cracked screens will no longer be an issue. In a recently discovered patent by Slashgear, it seems that Motorola has filed for a patent for a smartphone display that has the ability to heal itself.

According to the patent, it describes how the phone will be able to detect when there is a crack in the screen, and notify the user about it. The user will then “mark” out the cracked area, after which the phone will emit heat and the display will be able to “heal” itself, or at least reverse some of the damage done to it.

Of course exactly to what extent this healing capability is remains to be seen, plus we imagine that a fully shattered display might be a bit hard to put back together. However for minor scratches and chips, perhaps this could come in handy, or at least heal the phone enough where it could continue to be usable.

Unfortunately as this is a patent, there’s really no telling when Motorola plans to make it a reality, or if at all. However the company isn’t the first to experiment with phones that can heal itself. Several years ago LG launched the G Flex that had a special film on the back that could repair minor scratches. We’ve also seen patents from the likes of Apple which attempts to crowdsource data when phones are dropped that could help create phones with certain areas that are reinforced.

Barack Obama’s Charlottesville Tweet Is The Most Liked Tweet Ever

There tweets that go viral and generate a ton of likes and views, and while we have seen tweets rack up over a million likes in the past, it seems that we have a new record and a new winner from none other than former President Barack Obama, who according to Variety is now the title holder to the tweet with the most likes ever.

The tweet in question was made by Obama following the events in Charlottesville, in which Obama quoted Nelson Mandela by saying, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion…” At this time of writing, the tweet has racked up over 3.2 million likes and has since surpassed previous record holders such as Ariana Grande who tweeted out a distraught message following the terrorist attack in Manchester, UK. That particular tweet garnered over 2.7 million likes.

Coming in third place was a tweet by Ellen DeGeneres in which she posted a selfie taken at the Oscars back in 2014 which got over 2.4 million likes. However in terms of retweets, Obama’s latest tweet only comes in fourth at over 1.2 million retweets, and where the current record holder is a teen from Nevada who tried to get 18 million retweets for a free year’s worth of nuggets. While he didn’t manage to hit that number, he is still holding the record at 3.7 million.
