If you use a laptop as your primary computing device, but connect it to a monitor when you’re home, there are many ways you can go about doing it, and recently accessory maker Twelve South has debuted a new stand called the Curve which appears to be an evolution of the iCurve, the first ever stand by the company that was launched way back in 2003.
Clearly things have changed since then, and according to the Curve’s designer and Twelve South’s co-founder Andrew Green, “I knew someday I wanted to refresh the classic design for the modern Mac universe. In thinking about bringing it back to market, I visualized Curve as a thin metal ribbon – kind of like a Möbius strip. Utilizing aluminum with a matte black finish, Curve is a fresh remix of the original classic that looks simply stunning, especially when supporting the new Space Grey MacBooks.”
Green also touts how the design of the Curve looks like it could also double as a desktop sculpture even when not in use. “The best part is that when I take my MacBook off the stand, Curve still looks cool. It’s a desktop sculpture rather than a fractured setup with an empty hole.” We have to admit that the Curve looks really sleek and seems to be in line with the design language over at Apple.
However we also have to admit that the Curve is kind of pricey at $50, but if you think that it is worth the price in terms of design and functionality, then head on over to Twelve South’s website for the details.

For the most part, Apple has supported returns and exchanges at it stores when you purchase one of their products. However over in Hong Kong, Apple is making some changes to its returns and exchange policy, which has led some to believe that they are doing so ahead of the launch of the new iPhone to prevent scalping.
According to the updated policy, it reads, “All products purchased at Apple Store in Hong Kong cannot be returned or exchanged. Exceptions for exchange will be allowed for defective products only.” However this only applies to products purchased on and after the 15th of August, so if you purchased it before then you should be safe.
Apple did not provide a reason why they have instituted these changes, but like we said, it could be because of scalpers and with the launch of the new iPhone 8, this policy should help to address that. Note that this is not the first time that Apple Hong Kong has instituted these changes. Similar changes were made last year ahead of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, so we guess this move shouldn’t be that surprising.
It is unclear how long this updated policy will stay in effect, or if it will be changed permanently (in which we’re sure that Hong Kong shoppers won’t be too pleased), but that’s the way it’s going to be for the foreseeable future.

Thanks to Amazon’s logistics network, they are able to offer customers speedy deliveries either within a couple of days, or within the same day itself, although usually within a timeframe of a couple of hours. However what if you needed something like right this instant? Amazon has the answer for you in the form of Instant Pickup.
As the name suggests, this is a pickup service and not a delivery service, meaning that you will have to collect it yourself from one of Amazon’s self-service lockers. However not every item on sale on Amazon will be available for Instant Pickup, but rather it will be used more towards need-it-now items like food, drinks, personal care items, and so on, which we guess makes sense since sometimes there are certain items we need at the last minute only to realize we don’t have it at home or with us.
According to Ripley MacDonald, Director, Student Programs, Amazon, “As shopping behaviors continue to evolve, customers consistently tell us that they want items even faster. Whether it’s a snack on-the-go, replacing a lost phone charger in the middle of a hectic day or adding Alexa to your life with an Echo, Instant Pickup saves Prime members time.”
At the moment Amazon’s Instant Pickup is available to Prime and Prime Student members, and there will be five select pickup locations offered at the moment, but there are plans to eventually expand the service. More details about the service can be found on Amazon’s website.

This year Apple is expected to launch a several new iPhones. It is expected that we will see refreshes of last year’s models in the form of the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, as well as a new iPhone 8 model that will come with all the bells and whistles. So far the focus has been on the iPhone 8, but some details about the iPhone 7s have since surfaced.
According to the rumors and speculation, Apple is not expected to introduce major design changes to the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus unlike the iPhone 8. However there will be some differences, such as the use of a glass back panel that is meant to help facilitate wireless charging, and because of that it has since been rumored that the iPhone 7s could be thicker as a result.
This is according to German blog Giga Apple who cites a case maker who claims that the new iPhones will be thicker by 0.1mm than its predecessor, which by the way was also thicker than the iPhone 6 due to the introduction of its 3D Touch display. While this might not seem so obvious in your hands, it could mean that you will need to shop for new cases.
This is because cases are usually designed to be tight fits, so even the slightest changes could mean that it will no longer fit. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully Apple will have the official details for us next month.

Future Android Phones Could Get Similar Facial Recognition Technology As The iPhone 8
Posted in: Today's ChiliTouch ID has been pretty much a security staple for the iPhone ever since Apple introduced it to the iPhone 5s. However recent rumors have suggested that Apple could be turning to something else, and that is facial recognition which is a rumored feature that could debut with the iPhone 8.
Now facial recognition systems aren’t new and we have seen some Android OEMs try to implement it in the past, although the fact that many seem to be easily tricked by photographs hasn’t really inspired much confidence, but in a report from CNET, Qualcomm believes that come 2018, many Android phones should sport similar facial recognition capabilities as the iPhone 8.
At the moment Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets already offer some form of image signal processors and depth-sensing, but the company states that the next generation of Snapdragon chipsets will have those features overhauled to do more, in which they can be used for features like object reconstruction, mapping, and of course facial recognition on a more sophisticated level.
However the question is whether or not OEMs will be implementing the feature, but we guess that will also depend on Apple launching the feature and how successful or useful it will be. 3D Touch was also a rumored feature that many Android OEMs would adopt, but given that 3D Touch hasn’t exactly proven to be useful, there aren’t many Android handsets out there with pressure-sensitive displays at the moment.
In the meantime you can check out Qualcomm’s depth sensing technology in the video above.
