Alibaba Wants To Sell Cars From A Vending Machine

Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba wants to get into the vending machine game. However, the company isn’t planning on installing just another vending machine to sell chips and soda from. Alibaba actually wants to build a giant vending machine which it will use to sell luxury cars to customers in China.

Selling cars from vending machines isn’t a new idea. Carvana has been doing something similar in the United States. It’s an online used car dealer that opened a three bay car vending machine in Atlanta, Georgia back in November 2013.

Singapore-based Autobahn Motors set up the world’s tallest car vending machine in the country earlier this year. It’s a 15 story tower that’s filled with luxury cars such as Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, and Bentleys.

Alibaba’s vision is to make buying cars as easy as buying a can of soda. It’s going to develop a tall structure that will be filled with luxury cars. Customers will have to download the vending machine’s app on their phone if they want to buy a car.

Then it’s just a matter of selecting the car they want. If their credit score on Alibaba’s Sesame Credit system is good enough, they can immediately make the 10 percent initial payment and watch as their car is brought down automatically and placed before them so that they can drive it away. The customers have to make monthly payments to pay off the balance on the car.

Alibaba aims to launch its car vending machine in China at some point later this year.
