Nougat Update For Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) Released

Having released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for some of its high-end models, Samsung is now turning its attention to its recent premium mid-range smartphones. Just yesterday, it started rolling out the Nougat update for the Galaxy A7 (2017). Earlier today, Samsung released the first firmware update for the Galaxy A5 (2017) that brings Android 7.0 Nougat.

Samsung’s new Galaxy A (2017) series was released back in January this year. Even though it was released a few months after Nougat arrived, Samsung chose to launch it with Marshmallow instead probably because it wanted the Galaxy S8 to be its first Nougat-powered smartphone.

The company has finally turned its attention to the Galaxy A (2017) series and is now sending out the latest iteration of Android for it. The first Nougat firmware update for the Galaxy A5 (2017) has been released in Russia.

Samsung has rolled out firmware version number A520FXXU2BQH4 for the Galaxy A5 (2017) in Russia today. It weighs in at over 1GB, unsurprisingly, as it’s a major platform update. It also includes the latest August security patch from Samsung and Google.

This goes to show that the company has got the ball rolling on the Nougat update for this particular handset. It’s obviously going to take a lot of time before this update is released for all Galaxy A5 (2017) users across the globe, but at least now they know that it’s only a matter of time before the update arrives.

Battlefield 1 Goes Free For EA And Origin Access

Electronic Arts recently confirmed that it was going to make two very popular games available for free to EA Access and Origin Access subscribers. The titles that will be available for free to subscribers of both services are Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1. After following through on its promise for Titanfall 2 last month, EA has now added Battlefield 1 to the Vault for EA and Origin Access.

Battlefield 1 was very well received when it was launched last year in October. It remains one of the best-selling games ever. EA’s latest count revealed that the game has more than 21 million players across the globe. Now that it’s available for free, it will only drive up the numbers.

EA added Titanfall 2 to the Vault last month. Since then, any and all EA and Origin Access subscribers on Xbox One and PC respectively can download and play Titanfall 2 for free as long as they’re subscribed to the service.

Additional incentives offered to subscribers include a 10 percent discount on digital EA purchases, access to pre-release trials of EA releases, and more. Subscriptions cost $5 per month or $30 per year.

Battlefield 1 has received similar treatment today. Xbox One and PC games who subscribe to EA Access and Origin Access can play Battlefield 1 for free starting today. They just need to head over to the Vault where they’ll find this game as well as several others that are also available for free.

Intel 8th Gen Core Processors Will Be Unveiled On August 21st

Intel’s 7th generation Core processors are good enough but this isn’t a company that rests on its laurels. The company wants to get everyone talking about its next-generation processors and for precisely that reason, it has announced that Intel’s 8th generation Core processors will be unveiled on August 21st.

It’s going to stream the proceedings live on Facebook so that the world can tune in. Intel hasn’t shared any technical details about the new processors so far, why would it, seeing as how the event is just over a week away.

It does say that on August 21st, it’s going to preview PCs powered by the new chips and will also showcase a demo from a VR creator.

The company has previously confirmed that the 8th generation Core chips will not be a product of a major redesign. The “Coffee Lake” chips will be built on its existing 14nm process and will have many similarities with its predecessors.

Customers will get more cores at similar power levels, though. The Core i5 and Core i7 chips will jump to six cores on the desktop whereas the Core i3, Pentium, and other low-power notebook chips will jump to four cores.

This should enable the company to squeeze more performance out of the chips particularly in multitasking scenarios. Expect Intel to reveal the pricing and availability details aside from the full technical details on August 21st.
