Elon Musk once said that Tesla couldn’t fit a 100kWh battery into the Model 3, but he didn’t specify what kind of battery the car will have. Now, a bunch of EPA certification documents have finally revealed that the long-range version of the all-elec…

When you spring for a Chromebook, the choice between performance and ruggedness is usually an either/or proposition: you can get a durable machine or speedy hardware, but seldom both. Acer thinks it can strike a balance between the two. It’s launchin…
If the rumors are true, the iPhone 8 is expected to come with a 3D laser scanner which will help facilitate facial recognition, which apparently could be a new form of security for the iPhone 8. Recently thanks to some code discovered by developer Guilherme Rambo (via 9to5Mac), it seems that the 3D laser scanners could be more than just for facial recognition.
Assuming the interpretation of the code is correct, it seems that the upcoming iPhone 8 could come with a nifty feature, which is the ability to silence notification sounds as long as you are looking at it. This means that as long as you’re paying attention to your phone, the feature will make your phone smart enough to know that and thus preventing sounds from playing, which can sometimes be rather annoying especially if you’re getting a ton of notifications.
While we can’t say for sure how the iPhone will be able to achieve this, presumably this could have something to do with the same system that can recognize your face. In fact recently it has been suggested that the iPhone 8’s facial recognition system can actually work even when the phone is lying flat on the table.
In any case this is something we’ll just have to wait and see, so hopefully Apple won’t take their own sweet time and make the official announcement soon.

When Apple launched Touch ID on their iPhones, it was quickly copied and many other OEMs soon released flagships with built-in fingerprint scanners. It was largely assumed that this would be the case with Force Touch, Apple’s pressure-sensitive display for its iPhone, which led to rumors that many companies including Samsung would follow suit.
However that hasn’t really been the case, but that could change with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. In a report from The Investor (via PhoneArena), it is believed that Samsung could introduce a pressure-sensitive display with the upcoming Galaxy Note 8. However to what extent this will be remains to be seen, but it is said that for the most part, it will at least follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy S8/S8+ where a pressure-sensitive display will be used to replace the home button.
However like we said, whether or not it will end up being like Apple’s Force Touch remains to be seen. The Note 8, based on leaked renders and rumors, will also be killing the physical home button, which means that just like the Galaxy S8/S8+, it could stand to benefit from an onscreen button.
Samsung is expected to officially announce the handset on the 23rd of August, so we guess we won’t have to wait much longer for the details.

Facebook seems to be shutting down quite a few of its app lately. Just earlier we reported that the Facebook Groups app would be coming to an end, and now it seems that another Facebook app will be put on the chopping block and it is none other than Lifestage, an app that is barely a year old.
For those who are unfamiliar with Lifestage, this is an app that Facebook launched last August in which it was aimed pretty much at teens, which is why if you’re in your 20s or older, there’s a good chance that this app has any relevance to you. The app was initially designed to be like a Snapchat rival, where teens would upload photos and videos of various things that they like or dislike in an attempt to connect teens who are like-minded.
As to why the app is being shut down, Facebook did not specify a reason why, but they did issue a statement to Business Insider which reads, “Teens continue to make up an important part of the global community on Facebook, and we’ve learned a lot from Lifestage. We will continue to incorporate these learnings into features in the main Facebook app.”
This is not the first time that a Facebook app has been shut down, and we doubt that it will be the last. However this isn’t that uncommon especially since sometimes it’s hard to say if an app will be successful or not.

While there are some of us who are perfectly fine with ordering our food and eating it without taking a photo first, there are some who are just obsessed with it. In some cases it can actually be a bit tedious since you would have to wait for them to arrange the food properly, take multiple shots, readjust, and take them again before you can eat.
Now if you’re a budding Instagrammer who wants to take the perfect food photo, it seems that over in that over in the UK there is a restaurant called Dirty Bones that will actually provide its diners with what they are calling an “Instagram Kit”. Basically this kit will help their diners take better photos of their meal.
Obviously this isn’t entirely altruistic because if better composed, better lit, and sharper photos are shared on Instagram, it is basically free marketing for the cafe as well. So what’s in this kit? The kit will comprise of a portable LED light so that you can create better lighting in case it isn’t ideal; there will also be a charger in case your phone is running low; a clip on wide-angle lens so that you can capture everything on the table; a tripod; and a selfie stick.
That being said, Dirty Bones is not the first restaurant to offer up such a kit, but they are the first restaurant chain in the UK to do so. Will we be seeing more cafes and restaurants offer this to diners in the future? Who knows?

Nintendo has some pretty big titles coming up and if you’re interested in learning more about Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns, you will be pleased to learn that Nintendo has confirmed that they will be streaming both games live at the upcoming Gamescom which will be taking place later this month.
Neither title has yet to be released which means that these livestreams will provide gamers with an idea of what they might be able to expect. Super Mario Odyssey will be a Mario title that will be headed towards the Nintendo Switch. It is a bit different from the other Mario titles we’ve seen in the past, but from the various gameplay videos, it does seem to have rather interesting mechanics that should help keep the franchise fresh and exciting.
As for Metroid: Samus Returns, this is a title that is destined for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console, and is not to be confused with Metroid Prime 4 (working title) which was announced for the Nintendo Switch at E3 a couple of months ago. However given the reputation and history of the Metroid franchise, it is still a highly-anticipated title nonetheless.
The streaming times for Super Mario Odyssey is expected to begin at 2PM UK time on Wednesday, the 23rd of August, while Metroid will be livestreamed at 11PM UK time on Thursday, the 24th of August.
