SMALT is a smart salt dispenser
Posted in: Today's ChiliIn this day and age, there are smart homes, smartphones, and even smart cars, so what happens when the world of technology collides with an everyday item in the kitchen or dining table? Why, you end up with Herb & Body’s SMALT, of course. SMALT is touted to be the first interactive centerpiece and smart salt dispenser in the world, where it has been specially designed to enhance the dining experience.
Who would have thought that something as ordinary as a salt dispenser will end up getting some “brains” to truly make the 21st century a very special one? Sporting a stylish design, it has integrated mood-lighting that will help set the tone for the meal, as well as sport a built-in Bluetooth speaker that can play back the music of your choice. SMALT is capable of setting the perfect ambiance regardless of where you are, where it dispenses measured amounts of salt either manually or through “shake,” “pinch” or “pour” gestures. These gestures will work in tandem with the free companion app that is available on iOS and Android platforms.
Apart from that, users are able to dispense salt through Amazon Alexa integration, which makes this the ideal tool for folks who need to watch their diet through the monitoring of salt consumption. Being an Indiegogo campaign, SMALT will retail for $99 apiece as a limited early bird special, which is a 50% discount off the regular retail price.
Bipan Singh, founder, Herb and Body shared, “One of the most basic human needs is the need for belongingness. For centuries, one of the ways we have fulfilled this need is by gathering around the dinner table, a place where we connect, appreciate and feel appreciated. SMALT is our effort to further enhance this experience – all with the important benefit of watching your salt intake.”

Several years ago, Netflix landed a pretty big deal with Disney in which the platform could stream Disney’s shows. Given that Disney plays home to a ton of movies and TV shows, it was a pretty good move on Netflix’s part, but unfortunately it seems that Netflix will not be able to reap the rewards for much longer.
Disney has recently announced that they will be ending their distribution deal with Netflix and will instead be launching its own streaming service, which is expected to kick off in 2019, which means that those who want to get in on it will still have a bit of waiting to do. However in the meantime it’s not as if Disney will be yanking all of its contents off Netflix right away.
According to Disney, they plan to cut Netflix off starting with the company’s 2019 films, which means that Netflix gets to keep all of the Disney movies through the end of 2018, so fans of Star Wars should be able to stream at least the next two Star Wars movies, save for the final episode in the new trilogy, which does seem a bit mean but hey, business is business, right?
Like we said, Disney is home to more than just cartoons as the company also Disney also owns Marvel and Star Wars, so those are two universes which have pretty huge fan bases on their own which could very well subscribe to Disney’s service just to access its content.

If you’re trying to create an appointment or put together a small-ish event, platforms like Google Calendar are perfect for the job. However what if you’re trying to create a large event with many attendees? While Google Calendar could probably do the job, it might not necessarily be the best solution, but Google wants to change that perception.
Google has recently updated Calendar where they are hoping with the changes, it will do a better job of handling events on a larger scale (200 or more people). According to Google, “Organizing an event with a lot of attendees can be complicated. It’s critical that you allocate the right space for the event, understand how many people will attend, and even check if some specific people, like executives or important clients, will be there. That’s why we’re making it easier to effectively manage events of any size in Google Calendar.”
Some of the changes that they are introducing in this update is the ability to use Google Sheets to better see who is attending, where they can export the guest lists to Sheets for a better viewing experience. There will also be a change in handling large group mailing lists, where according to Google, “Going forward, if a group mailing list has been invited to a newly-created event, Calendar will automatically invite any new group members who join after the invite was sent and automatically remove members who leave.”
The changes to Calendar are being rolled out over the next few days, so do keep an eye out for it if this is something that you might be interested in.

It goes without saying that Blizzard is a fan of seasonal events. We have seen the company introduce various seasonal events to some of its games where applicable, and their latest franchise Overwatch is no exception where last year they introduced the Overwatch Summer Games event.
That being said it looks like the games are back for a 2017 event and according to Blizzard, “The Summer Games return for more fun in the sun! This year, we’re celebrating the spirit of competition with a new Lúcioball arena, leaderboards, and competitive play. Unlock over 50 new seasonal items—including legendary skins like Mercy’s Winged Victory, Grillmaster: 76, and Lifeguard McCree—alongside all your favorite summer gear from last year.”
There will be a bunch of new skins that you can earn through the Loot Boxes, which was met with a bit of criticism last year due to the random nature of Loot Boxes and the fact that the games were a limited time event. However given that Blizzard seems to be paying attention to what the community is saying, hopefully this won’t be an issue this year.
The good news for collectors is that if you wanted to collect last year’s skins, Blizzard will be selling them at a reduced cost of Legendary Skins priced at 1,000 credits, Epic Skins at 250 credits, and Rare skins for 75 credits. The Overwatch Summer Games 2017 will kick off from the 8th of August and will last until the 28th of August.

If music streaming is your thing, there are a ton of options available in the market today. However if you’re after a streaming service that can be streamed natively through Google Home, then you might be interested to learn that Deezer is one of the new streaming services that users can enjoy.
At the moment Google Home has a handful of music streaming services that can be streamed natively through the speakers, which includes Google Play Music, YouTube Music, Pandora, and Spotify, and with the addition of Deezer it brings the total number of services to five, which we reckon is a pretty healthy selection to choose from.
It has been noted that with the addition to Google Home, this marks the first time that Deezer has ever added support for voice controls via a digital assistant or speaker setup, but other than that using the service is pretty straightforward. Users can control the service using their voice, pause/play songs, skip tracks, and even access a feature called Flow, which is one of the platform’s signature features.
Basically Flow is a playlist that is generated based on your existing listening preferences. Users can make adjustments to this playlist by elling Google Home which songs they like or don’t like. At the moment Deezer for Google Home has only been launched in Germany and France, and it is expected to find its way to the US, UK, and Australia later this year.

With its mobile apps and its app for macOS, Twitter has introduced the Night Mode feature which basically gives the app a darker appearance. This helps users at night who want to avoid the glare of the app, and we guess to a certain extent it is for aesthetic reasons where some users might prefer a darker look.
That being said, this feature was not made available to desktop users (save for macOS users who use the dedicated Twitter app), at least until now. It has been noticed that Twitter is testing out a Night Mode for desktop users, as you can see in the screenshots above. It basically gives the entire website a darker look and feel to it.
However like we said, the feature currently appears to be in testing which means that it isn’t available to all users yet. It is unclear as to how Twitter is selecting users to test this feature with, so if you don’t see it then you’re probably not part of the testing group. It is possible that the feature is being rolled out very slowly, so you may or may not see it in the near future, or for all we know Twitter could decide to can the project entirely.
In any case what do you guys think? Is Night Mode a feature that has been sorely missing from Twitter’s desktop experience? Or do you think it’s probably not that big of a deal?
