Limited Edition OnePlus 5 Soft Gold Available Starting Today

If you’ve been meaning to purchase the OnePlus 5 but didn’t want to buy it in the Midnight Black or Slate Gray color, perhaps the Soft Gold will entice you enough to open your wallet. The company today announced that the Limited Edition OnePlus 5 is available for purchase starting today. The company has decided to offer this color option with the OnePlus 5 after the popularity of the Soft Gold OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

The Limited Edition OnePlus 5 Soft Gold variant has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Unlike the other two color options, the Soft Gold edition has a white front instead of black.

The company says that it has further developed its sandblasting processor which has enabled the finish of the OnePlus 5 Soft Gold to be 30 percent finer than previous models.

Interested customers can purchase the handset starting at 12 pm Eastern today. It’s going to be sold via OnePlus.net for $479. The company has also confirmed that the Slate Gray OnePlus 5 will soon be available with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $539.

OnePlus previously offered the higher-end model with additional RAM and storage in the Midnight Black color option only. This means that customers will now have more choice and no one ever disliked having more choice.

YouTube Gets In-App Messaging Feature

Your YouTube viewing experience is about to get more social. The Google-owned company has sent out an update for its mobile app today that adds a mobile-only messaging feature. This in-app feature enables users to share a video with friends and even chat about it in a private thread. All of this happens inside the YouTube app which makes it much easier to share videos that you think your friends might be interested in.

This feature was actually launched only in Canada earlier this year but now it has been released for all YouTube users across the globe.

The feature works in a fashion similar to the default Messages app in Android. Users can share a video with a contact or with several contacts in a group. They can also chat about it without having to leave the YouTube app.

It’s also possible to respond to a shared video with another video. Users can do that by tapping on the reel icon and searching for the relevant video. This messaging feature has been built into the YouTube share button. It lets users select contacts from their phone’s contact lists. They can also get a direct link to share and add new friends to the thread.

FX Launches Its Own Streaming Service

FX has joined the list of networks with their own online streaming services. It has announced that this fall, a new ad-free subscription service is going to be launched which will feature the network’s current original series lineup as well as several older series. However, unlike other online streaming services, this one is not aimed at cord cutters. FX+ isn’t a standalone streaming service.

FX+ will only be available to Comcast Xfinity subscribers. According to The New York Times, those who subscribe to Comcast Xfinity will be able to subscribe to FX+ for $5.99 per month.

Subscribers will get access to shows like American Horror Story, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Atlanta. The value proposition isn’t absolute, though, given that many of the network’s shows can also be found on other streaming services like Hulu and Netflix.

However, now that FX has its own streaming service, it’s possible that going forward we might start to see fewer FX shows on rival streaming services. It remains to be seen, though, if FX decides to open up its streaming service to cord cutters.

FX has confirmed that its ad free streaming service for Comcast Xfinity subscribers is going to go live come September 5th.

Apple’s Official Instagram Account Isn’t Your Ordinary Corporate Account

Apple is finally on Instagram. The company has launched its official account today and its handle is @apple, unsurprisingly. However, the account is far from your average corporate Instagram account that highlights interesting tidbits about the company. Apple’s official Instagram account is actually not about the company at all. It’s all about the beautiful pictures that people take using the iPhone.

This isn’t Apple’s first foray into the world of Instagram, though. There’s already a dedicated @applemusic Instagram account with more than 2.2 million followers.

This appears to be an extension of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” marketing campaign that highlights pictures taken on iPhones by plastering them on giant billboards across the globe.

You’ll find Shot on iPhone photos on @apple as well. Without showing the iPhone itself, Apple is highlighting the fact that the iPhone’s camera is the best out there for mobile photography. That’s the point which the company is trying to drive home.

It doesn’t look like Apple is going to post photos taken on iPhone by its employees in controlled conditions. There are curators running the account that scour the internet for great images taken with an iPhone.

They then contact the owner and ask if the image can be shared on @apple. With more than a trillion photos being taken on iPhones across the globe annually, great pictures aren’t hard to come by.
