Google’s Pixel phone has been on the market for a while now, but it’s still one of the best handsets money can buy. If it’s something you’d like to own, but are put off by the price-tag, today is your lucky day. As 9to5Google reports, the search gian…
According to some rumors, it seems that Apple could be considering giving up on the iPhone SE. Given that Apple did not enjoy much success with the iPhone 5c, which for all intents and purposes seemed to fill the same role as the iPhone SE, the rumors hardly came as a surprise, although recently some rumors are saying that might not be the case.
More recent reports have suggested that the iPhone SE will be sticking around and could be refreshed later this year, but a new report suggests that it could be launched in 2018 instead. The report claims that the phone is expected to be launched in Q1 2018 and will be launched in markets such as India.
Apparently India will be the first to receive the phone before it is expected to roll out to more markets, and we guess given that the iPhone SE is meant to appeal to customers on a tighter budget, targeting emerging markets such as India makes sense. We’re not sure what to expect in the refresh of the phone, but apparently it is expected to maintain the same display size as its predecessor.
It is however rumored to be powered by the Apple A10 chipset and will pack a 1,700mAh battery alongside 32GB and 128GB storage options. While we can’t confirm if this report is true, Apple’s CEO recently emphasized the importance of the Indian market, so perhaps launching the iPhone SE in the country first might make sense.

So we know that Google is working on a new Pixel handset in the form of the Pixel 2, but when exactly the phone will be launched remains to be seen. However it seems that we could be getting closer because according to reports, Google has recently slashed the prices of its Pixel handsets.
For example the 32GB Pixel is now priced at $524 which is cheaper by $125 from its original retail price. The Pixel XL on the other hand is now priced at $569 for the 32GB model which is a discount of $200, and it looks like for every Pixel order you make, Google will toss in a free Daydream View headset.
These are pretty good deals and if you’re the type that isn’t particularly fussed about having the latest or greatest smartphone, then getting a couple of hundred bucks off and also getting a free VR headset sounds like a good deal. We’re not sure how long this deal will last for, but presumably Google is trying to clear remaining stock before they start bringing in the new phones.
Like we said there is still no date on when the Pixel 2 handsets will be launched, but the recent price slash and also the leaked photos all seems to suggest that we won’t have to wait too long.

If there has been a drawback to the Apple Watch, it is that it is too reliant on the iPhone for its connectivity. This means that non-iPhone owners won’t have such an easy time using the device, but that could change with the Apple Watch Series 3 which is rumored to feature cellular connectivity.
According to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that Apple could finally be introducing cellular connectivity to the Apple Watch with the third-generation model. This means that Apple Watch Series 3 owners can subscribe to a data plan from a carrier and use that data plan to connect to the internet. By cutting the cord, Apple Watch users won’t necessarily have to rely so heavily on the iPhone anymore.
It is unclear how this will work, but if Apple’s cellular iPads are any indication, there will be an embedded SIM that users can then choose which carrier they want to use. The report from Bloomberg claims that Intel will be supplying the LTE modems (not surprising given Apple’s spat with Qualcomm).
In addition to cellular connectivity, a recent rumor has even suggested that the Apple Watch Series 3 could feature a new form factor, which perhaps might be welcome given that Apple has stuck to the same design for the past two generations. In terms of launch, we have heard that it could be launched this fall where it will most likely be launched alongside the new iPhones.

Apple’s interest in augmented reality (AR) is pretty obvious, what with the company launching ARKit for iOS devices at WWDC 2017 earlier this year. However we’re sure that the company has bigger plans besides just phones, and we have also heard rumors that Apple could have a pair of AR smartglasses in the works as well.
Now thanks to a report from the Financial Times (paywall; via BGR), additional details about the rumored device has surfaced. According to the report, Apple is working on a pair of AR powered smartglasses, which is in line with what we’ve been hearing so far. The report also goes on to add that Apple is exploring various designs, one of which is said to sport just a set of 3D cameras without a dedicated display, which means that this headset will have to be paired with another device like an iPhone or iPad.
However the report claims that Apple is still in the early stages as they have yet to find a proper use for such a headset. “A particular area of experimentation, people familiar with the matter say, is a pair of AR glasses that might move cameras, sensors and screens from the smartphone to the face. Yet despite the excitement surrounding ARKit, internally the company is still not sure what the most compelling application for such a headset might be.”
We have seen companies such as Google attempt AR smartglasses like with the Google Glass, but unfortunately it never got to the commercialization stage before the project was shut down. We’re not sure how Apple might distinguish themselves from what’s been tried in the past, and for all we know, Apple could decide to shelve it if they can’t find anything, but either way take it with a grain of salt for now.

Companies love to copy each other, and why not? After all if it is a good idea, it makes sense that someone else would want to capitalize on that. For example while Apple did not invent tablets, they certainly helped popularize it, along with features like the fingerprint scanner, so it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Google might want to “borrow” some features from Snapchat as well.
In a report from The Wall Street Journal (via Android Police), it seems that Google is working on a new feature called “Stamp”. This is a play on words of “Stories” and “AMP”, which for those unfamiliar is Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages, which instantly loads compatible websites on mobile devices.
The report claims that Google is trying to create a Snapchat Discover clone but leveraging its AMP technology at the same time. For the Stories part, Google is said to have reached out to various publishers to take part in it, where it will comprise of a series of slides including text, photos, and videos, which like we said is similar to Snapchat’s Discover feature.
There’s no telling on when Google’s “Stamp” feature will be launched, or if it is even true to begin with, so take it with a grain of salt, but in the meantime what do you guys think? Is this something you might be interested in seeing?
