HBO Hack Feared To Be Seven Times Larger Than Sony

You may remember that a couple of years ago, Sony was the victim of a devastating cyberattack that led to the leak of one of its new movies and also shut down the company’s entire email network. It was disastrous for Sony and it took months for the company to get its systems back online properly. HBO’s systems were recently compromised and according to a new report, the HBO hack is feared to be seven times larger than the Sony hack.

Hackers who compromised HBO’s systems leaked a couple of episodes of shows like Ballers and even the script for next week’s Game of Thrones episode. The hackers said that they would leak more content in the days to come.

It’s unclear if they have made a ransom demand to HBO in exchange for not leaking anything else. Reports suggest that hackers have obtained 1.5TB of data from HBO’s systems.

HBO has not confirmed the details of the hack but has acknowledged that one did happen. “HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cyber-security firms,” it said.

Some believe that internal documents, video footage, and emails could be leaked next. On the other hand, HBO CEO Richard Plepler has told staff in a note today that the company’s email system has not been compromised, adding that “the forensic review is ongoing.”

Tesla Model S Loses To Chevy Bolt In Latest Consumer Reports Test

Here’s something that’s going to make a lot of Chevy fans happy. The company’s all-electric car, the Chevy Bolt, has won the Consumer Reports range test against the Tesla Model S which has so far been the benchmark for all electric cars. Not only did the Chevy Bolt beat the Tesla Model 3 as far as range is concerned, it even beat the EPA estimate.

The Chevy Bolt has an EPA range of 238 miles on a single charge. Consumer Reports found in its range test of the car that it actually went 250 miles on a single charge.

The Chevy Bolt has beaten the Tesla Model S 75D in the process as well. When Consumer Reports tested that particular variant of the Model S, it did 235 miles on a single charge compared to its EPA estimate of 259 miles.

It’s interesting to note that the Chevy Bolt was actually able to beat the EPA estimate which isn’t an easy thing to. Even gas-powered cars struggle to meet their estimates because they are recorded under conditions that are rarely replicated out on the road.

Consumer Reports was able to beat the EPA estimated range for the Chevy Bolt by primarily driving the car on the highway at a speed of 65 miles per hour with the heating and cooling systems shut off. Consumer Reports does say that there were periods of “mixed driving” during the test.

This hasn’t been enough to knock the Model S from the top spot. Despite this, the Chevy Bolt still trails the Model S in second place on Consumer Reports’ best electric cars list.

LastPass Premium Price Hike Bothers Some Users

Popular password management service LastPass has announced today that it’s hiking up the rates for its premium service. The company has decided to double the cost of its premium tier to $24 per year. It has also removed some features from the free plan in a bid to push users to pony up cash for the premium offering.

Features that have been removed from the free LastPass plan include unlimited sharing and emergency access. Both of these features are now available only to those who subscribe to LastPass Premium and Families.

Despite the price hike which has seen the cost double, LastPass is still a cheaper option compared to some of its competitors. 1Password, for example, costs $3 per month and Dashlane charges the same for its premium service as well.

Whenever there’s a price hike, customers don’t really take it easy. It’s unsurprising to see that a lot of LastPass customers have taken to the company’s Facebook page to share their opinions about this price hike.

They’re not happy with it and some have called on the company to reverse its decision. The company is telling them that this price hike reflects its investment in new features to “make our product an industry-leading password manager.”
