If you’ve ever wanted to listen to music while meditating but haven’t been sure where to start, Alexa is going to take care of that for you now. Amazon has updated its digital personal assistant with the ability to stream music from Amazon Music for specific activities. For example, you can ask Alexa to play music for meditation or for running and it’s going to oblige.
This functionality will only work with Amazon Music, though, so you need to be using Amazon’s own music streaming service. It won’t work with other streaming services that are supported by Alexa for conventional streaming.
Amazon says that this update enables Alexa to play music specific to more than 500 activities. This includes working out, meditating, falling asleep and even some exciting activities like “hooking up,” or “music for making babies.” Yes, those are actual activities that Amazon has defined.
Alexa can also take requests for specific genres related to activities so if you want to hear classical music while working out, you just need to ask Alexa and it’s going to play some classical music for you.
Just be sure to use Amazon Music. This latest Alexa feature is not going to work without it.

Facebook has cloned several Snapchat features for its services with Stories being chief among them. Instagram Stories actually has more daily users now than Snapchat’s entire user base combined. The same feature has also been expanded to WhatsApp and Facebook proper. While it was previously available to users on mobile only, Facebook has now confirmed that it’s testing Stories for desktop users.
The Facebook Stories feature is placed at the very top of the page in the mobile app but that’s not going to be the case with the web version. Desktop users will find Facebook Stories on the right side of the window where it’s not going to be as intrusive.
The feature itself is quite similar to Snapchat Stories. Users can post photos and videos to their Story throughout the day. All content is visible for 24 hours before it disappears for good automatically.
Facebook has confirmed that Stories is being rolled out to desktop users. However, the company is quick to point out that it’s still considering this rollout as a test at this point in time but notes that it’s going to be widely rolled out soon.
It remains to be seen if bringing Stories to the desktop is going to have an impact on the usage numbers for this feature. Stories has been a hit on Instagram but not so much on Facebook proper. It will be interesting to see if this latest move helps in that regard.

Snap, Inc., the company behind Snapchat, previously fielded an acquisition offer from Facebook. The social network is reported to have offered it $3 billion at the time. According to a new report, the company was offered a significantly more amount of money but a deal wasn’t reached. It’s claimed that Google bid $30 billion for Snap in early 2016.
Business Insider reports, citing sources close and inside Snap, that Google wanted to acquire the company for $30 billion. Google’s initial offer for the company was reportedly discussed before Snap raised a round of private funding that valued it at $20 billion.
One source suggests that Google and Snap talked about an acquisition just before the latter’s IPO in March. A representative for the company told Business Insider that with regards to a formal discussion about a buyout, “these rumors are false.”
Some of the investors and employees of Snap might be wishing that they had taken the offer because the company’s market cap has been in a steady state of decline since its IPO. Snap shares are currently trading around $12.50 which values the company at nearly $14 billion.
When Snap went public, it had a market cap of $24 billion. Investors haven’t really been excited about the company’s prospects so far even though this was perhaps one of the most highly anticipated tech IPOs in recent years.
