Boeing Draws A Giant Plane Above The U.S. Because Why Not

How do you keep the pilots entertained during an almost 18 hour live engine test on an aircraft? You let them have some fun with it. Boeing has conducted one such live engine test on its 787 Dreamliner. During the 18 hour test flight, the plane traced the outline of a massive plane above the United States. It looks pretty cool when you pull up the tracking data for this flight.

18 hours is a lot of time to spend on an airplane and it’s enough time to cover an immense amount of distance. The outline that the pilots have created during this test flight is of a massive plane.

They’ve likely hit 17 states in this endeavor, ranging from Texas to Michigan. The plane eventually landed back at Boeing’s home base in Seattle once the live test was finished. The 787 Dreamliner in this test was up in the air for 17 hours and 45 minutes. It covered a total of 9,896 miles.

That’s much longer and farther than the longest commercial route in service today. Just in case you’re curious, the longest commercial route today is the flight that links Doha, Qatar to Auckland, New Zealand. That particular flight is 16 hours and 10 minutes long. It covers 9,021 miles. Imagine being on a plane for so long!

Apps With Poor Performance Will Now Be Downranked In Google Play

It’s no secret that you’ll find a lot of sub standard apps in the Google Play Store. Things have come a long way since the early days and while Google has taken concrete steps to ensure that malicious and spammy apps stay off its app store, there is still an abundance of poorly performing apps on the Google Play Store. To tackle this problem, Google has now said that the Play Store is going to automatically downrank apps with poor performance.

Google has said that it’s “incorporating app quality signals in our ranking algorithms.” This means that there’s less of a chance for crashing apps or apps with low user ratings to rise to the top of the rankings for paid and premium applications.

The app quality signals will also be used to rank apps in the search feature so when users search for apps, the apps with poor performance will be ranked lower in the search results.

Developers who have submitted legitimate apps that just perform poorly due to the code will now have more of an incentive to work hard to their apps and ensure that they fix problems related to crashing and try to increase positive user ratings.

This will help their apps surface higher in the rankings and search results and ultimately bring them more users.

Google hasn’t really detailed in depth all of the signals that the algorithm that decides to downrank these apps will take into account so developers will certainly have to be extra careful about their app’s performance from now on as it’s going to have a direct impact on its listing.
