Now that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been officially launched, we’re sure the next phone that many are looking forward to is the Galaxy S9, which is widely expected to be launched in 2019 even though Samsung has yet to officially confirm anything. Now thanks to the folks at XDA, some details of the phone have been revealed.
According to the report, it seems that they have heard from their sources that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will pack a Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is presumably the successor to this year’s Snapdragon 835. This should not come as a surprise. In fact an earlier report did suggest that Samsung apparently has first dibs on the Snapdragon 845s, meaning that the company could be the first to launch a phone powered by the chipset.
The report also goes on to add that the phone will be launched with Android 8.0 Oreo, which once again makes perfect sense since it would be odd for it to launch with anything less. However there is some disappointing news and that is according to their source, the Galaxy S9 will continue to maintain the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, meaning that once again it looks like an in-display sensor is potentially out of the question.
Other rumored details include the same QHD+ display with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio, and that it will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Note that this is for the Galaxy S9 and not the S9+ which could offer up slightly different specs, but either way we have to say it is a bit too early for anything to be certain just yet, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

While there were some who might have hoped to see new wearables announced at the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch event, it seems that you guys will have to wait a little bit longer because Samsung has announced that they will be live streaming their event at IFA 2017 and that new wearables will be announced.
In a post on Twitter, Samsung shared a link to its website where those who are interested will be able to tune into the company’s live stream for IFA 2017 which will be kicking off on the 30th of August, 2017 at 6PM CET. Samsung had previously confirmed their plans for a new smartwatch and in fact some photos of the smartwatch and fitness tracker might have been leaked already in a previous report.
However it seems that in addition to new wearables, Samsung’s announcement also suggests that they will be launching other connected devices as well. Samsung’s post reads, “The invite-only event will showcase products designed to seamlessly integrate into everyday life and streamline more facets of our evolving, increasingly connected lifestyles.”
We suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what the company has in store for us, so do remember to tune in during IFA 2017 and Samsung’s live stream if this is something you might be interested in.

There are countless brands of Android devices out there today, some of which you might have heard of, and some of which you might not. With so many to choose from, are you sure that the Android device you’re buying is certified by Google? Thanks to Google’s recent efforts, you’ll soon be able to tell.
Prior to this, you could tell that an Android device was certified based on whether or not it came bundled with Google apps and access to the Play Store. Those that did not would not have these apps or access, but that’s only after you purchase the phone and turn it on, but before that you wouldn’t know unless you’ve done your research or purchased from a reputable manufacturer.
However like we said this is something Google is changing with the Play Protect logo which will be branded on devices that are certified by Google. “Today, hundreds of licensed manufacturers offer a great experience by getting their devices certified […] And when you shop for a new Android phone or tablet, we recommend asking for a certified device or looking for the Google Play Protect logo on the box, to make sure it brings the benefits of certification and additional layers of security provided by Play Protect.”
Of course buying from a reputable manufacturer like Samsung, LG, HTC, and so on would make it easier, but for some markets, there might be cheaper local brands that customers might prefer, and seeing this Play Protect branding will make it easier for them to know that their devices are certified by Google.

Apple’s iPhone 8 event is one that is highly-anticipated, but the question is when will it be taking place? A recent rumor has suggested that it will be taking place on the 12th of September, and now it looks like more reputable sources have “confirmed” that the 12th of September is a date that is most likely to be used by Apple to launch their new products.
Reports from both TechCrunch and The Wall Street Journal are claiming to have insider information who has revealed to them that the iPhone 8 will be announced on the 12th of September. This event is also expected to see Apple launch the iPhone 7s, 7s Plus, and also potentially the Apple Watch Series 3 as well.
It is said that the event could be taking place at the Apple Park which is the company’s new headquarters that was recently built. TechCrunch writes that there is a possibility that the event could be delayed as this is dependent on the whether or not the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park can be completed in time, but so far it seems that the date has been “nearly locked in”.
Either way if the rumors are true, Apple should start sending out invites to its event soon so we guess we won’t have to wait much longer.

More carmakers are pledging to change their manufacturing efforts these days, where instead of putting out cars powered by gas, they are looking towards creating more hybrids and full electric vehicles. If you’re a fan of Aston Martin, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the company will also be heading down the hybrid and electric path soon.
This is according to the company’s CEO Andy Palmer who spoke to the Financial Times (paywall; via ArsTechnica) where he was quoted as saying, “We will be 100 per cent hybrid by the middle of the 2020s.” He also revealed that they will be making electric cars and that they expect that 25% of the company’s sales will be EVs by 2030, but for the more immediate future it looks like the company will be focusing on hybrids.
As it stands Aston Martin does an all-electric car planned called the RapidE. This car is expected to be launched in 2019 but it seems that it will be a limited-run model with only 115 models planned, and with a price tag of $255,000, it looks like it won’t be a mass-produced models designed for the general public, but it should give customers an idea of what to expect in future models created by the company.

The advantage of owning a Google Pixel or Nexus device is that, at least within the device’s supported lifespan, you’re guaranteed to get Android updates and new versions first before anyone else does. At least in theory. If you got your device via a carrier, however, you will still face some delays, though not as much as OEM phones. The … Continue reading
We don’t do a lot of Kickstarter posts because the outcomes of crowdfunding campaigns, especially hardware ones, are notoriously unpredictable. But it’s with an easy conscience that I recommend Lomography’s new instant film camera; I backed the company’s last one, the Automat, and it’s been fantastic. This one looks similarly fun, and shoots in a larger format. Read More
