Vintage Atari 2700 Found In A Thrift Store Sells For $3,000 On eBay

For those who snub their noses at thrift stores because they think that there’s nothing good, you might want to rethink that because in a post on Reddit, Redditor L064N revealed that he discovered an Atari 2700 console while shopping at a thrift store. He did not immediately recognize it but a quick Google search told him what he was looking at.

According to his post, “I was at the DAV Thrift Store in Oceanside today like 10 minutes before they closed and I saw this sitting on the shelf and it seemed odd to me as i’d never seen an Atari like it. Some quick googling led me to believe it was some cool rare prototype so I bought it.”

Unfortunately the console did not come with wireless controls as they were not donated to the thrift shop by the original owner, however it seems that for $30, he still managed to turn a tidy profit as he managed to sell it for $3,000, earning himself $2,970 in profit in the process. He writes that an Atari employee had reached out to him and let him know that had it come with the wireless controllers, he could have fetched as much as $5,000 for the entire set.

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing vintage games and consoles sell for so much online. In fact even newer and discontinued consoles like the NES Classic Edition are fetching pretty crazy prices on eBay, so if you’re thinking of doing some investing, maybe consoles and video games could be the way to go.

iPhone 8 Could Support ‘SmartCam’ Scene Selection

If there is one feature you might notice on many cameras, especially those of the compact variety, is that there are scene selector modes where users can change it depending on the photo they’re trying to take, such as landscape, at night, a portrait, sports/action, and so on, and it seems that these are features we can expect in the iPhone 8’s camera.

It seems that Apple’s HomePod firmware is giving away a lot more than what Apple might have intended, because in a tweet by developer Guilherme Rambo (via 9to5Mac), it mentions a potential feature called “SmartCam”. Apparently this feature will be able to tune the iPhone 8’s camera settings depending on the scene at hand, with references being made to Baby, Bright Stage, Document, Fireworks, Foliage, and more.

In a way it reminds us of white balance settings, which can also be adjusted depending on the lighting of the scene, and exactly how this differs from that remains to be seen. Perhaps the feature will help to enhance certain types of scenes, like maybe make sunsets more saturated, or document photos brighter, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Apple is expected to officially announce the iPhone next month. No official invites have been sent out but assuming Apple keeps to schedule, that’s when we can probably expect it. Apple’s CEO has also hinted at a September launch in which the company has forecasted a strong quarter.

Fitbit’s First Smartwatch Will Be Ready In Time For The Holidays

There have been some rumors to suggest that Fitbit’s first smartwatch could be delayed. However Fitbit’s CEO had recently confirmed that the smartwatch was not delayed and that things are on track, and the good news is that it looks like we might able to look forward to the smartwatch’s release by the end of the year.

During Fitbit’s second quarter earnings report (via Engadget), Fitbit’s CEO James Park confirmed that the smartwatch will be on track for a delivery ahead of the holiday season, and that it is expected to help the company enjoy a strong second half of the year. While Fitbit is more or less associated with fitness trackers, the company hasn’t exactly been doing well as their financials have revealed.

We’re not sure if a smartwatch will turn things around for them, especially since there have been other companies with more resources like Apple and Samsung who haven’t had much luck on that front either, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see. Fitbit’s CEO had also previously confirmed that there will be third-party apps available at launch, dismissing rumors that the smartwatch would only support Fitbit apps at the start.

We’ve already seen the watch thanks to leaked renders, which if accurate reminds us of a slightly modified version of the Fitbit Blaze.
