Android to get Bluetooth Battery Indicator at long last

Losing battery in the middle of using a device is already exasperating. But not knowing when you might actually lose battery is especially infuriating. That’s why phones and laptops have battery indicators, inaccurate as they may be, to at least give users a clue when it’s time to start scrambling for a charger. Bluetooth accessories, on the other hand, are … Continue reading

MS Word Flow iOS keyboard is dead, use update Gboard instead

Last year, Microsoft gave a peek at what could have been one of the more interesting virtual keyboards in the mobile market. One that was, almost ironically, exclusive to the iPhone. The Word Flow keyboard, however, has always been labeled an a beta, an experimental app, one that didn’t carry an assurance on longevity. That reality sinks in now as … Continue reading

Apple Patent Suggests iPhone Could Double Up As E-Passport

These days it’s safe to assume that the majority of passports issued by governments around the world are of the e-passport variety, meaning that they come with chips embedded in them that when scanned, will pull up information about the owner of the passport, like photo, name, country of birth, and etc.

Now we know that Apple wants to turn your iPhone into a digital wallet of sorts, allowing you to store membership and loyalty cards, as well as credit/debit cards, which is why it doesn’t really come as a complete surprise to learn that Apple is also interested in turning the iPhone and the Apple Watch into an e-passport, or at least that’s according to a recently discovered patent.

The patent basically describes a system in which the iPhone or the Apple Watch could contain the same technology found in an e-passport, meaning that at immigration, all users have to do is scan their phones or Apple Watch and it should be able to bring up the same information that one might expect from an e-passport.

The patent description reads (in part), “In some embodiments, the identification document is a passport that includes a radio-frequency identification (RFID) circuit storing the credential information, and the request specifies a passport number read from the RFID circuit.” However with this being a patent, it’s hard to tell if there are plans to make it a reality, not to mention we’d expect there’d be a ton of legal and regulatory hurdles to clear, but it’s an interesting idea all the same, don’t you think?

New Alleged Render Of The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Leaked

It probably won’t be much longer until the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is officially revealed. In fact Samsung has pretty much confirmed that the handset will be announced on the 23rd of August, although no official details have been revealed just yet. However thanks to a recent post by Evan Blass, it seems that we are getting a clearer idea of what to expect in terms of design.

As you can see in the image to the right, Blass has tweeted out a new render of the upcoming phone which comes in a midnight black finish as one of its options. The image doesn’t really reveal anything new, and in fact it seems to be in line with some of the earlier leaked renders which seems to show off the phone’s long-ish display, which presumably will stick to the same display aspect ratio of the Galaxy S8.

For the most part it also seems like Samsung will be sticking to the same design as the Galaxy S8, which isn’t really a bad thing since many do seem to like the design of the Galaxy S8 to begin with. Also from what we can tell from the render, there seems to be a button on the left side of the phone which could be the dedicated Bixby hardware button.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but like we said the phone will be announced on the 23rd of August so we won’t have to wait much longer for it to all become official.
