kanex-goplay-sidekickKanex is a name that many of us are familiar with when it comes to accessories for many of our portable devices, from smartphones to smartwatches. This time around, the gaming crowd will be pleased to hear that Kanex has something up their sleeves to deliver an enhanced gaming experience with Apple’s bevy of hardware. Enter the Kanex GoPlay Sidekick, a portable wireless game controller for iOS devices. With the GoPlay Sidekick, it will allow console-style gaming to be experienced on the iPhone, iPad, and even Apple TV, now how about that?

This pocket-sized wireless game controller has been certified by Apple, where it is compatible with just about any controller-supported game that can be found on the App Store. Sporting an internal rechargeable battery that delivers up to 20 hours of gameplay, it will make use of Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity in order to hook up to the corresponding iOS-powered device. Specs For Apple’s HomePod Revealed In Firmware

At WWDC 2017, it seemed that the rumors were true and that Apple was indeed planning to compete against the likes of Amazon and Google by releasing the HomePod, a Bluetooth speaker that comes with Siri installed in it that will allow users to interact with the digital assistant without necessarily requiring an iOS device.

Apart from Apple boasting that it would feature incredible sound, not much else is known about the HomePod, or at least until now where thanks to firmware released by Apple to developers, some addition nuggets of information about the speakers has been revealed. Posted on Twitter by Avery Magnotti, the amount of RAM the HomePod is packing has been revealed to be at 1GB, along with an A8 chipset which supposedly makes it more powerful than current smart speakers in the market today.

The LED display on top of the speakers is also revealed to have a very basic resolution of 272 x 340. This display is meant to show a multicolored waveform that turns on to let users know when Siri has been activated. However it has been suggested that this display could also be used to display other shapes for other purposes, although the full functionality has yet to be revealed.

The HomePod is currently scheduled for a release this coming December where it will be priced at $349.

Nikon D850 Rumored To Be The ‘Baby’ Version Of The D5

So Nikon has confirmed that they have a new DSLR camera in the works in the form of the Nikon D850. This is supposed to be the successor to the Nikon D810 that was released several years ago, but apart from the camera featuring a full-frame sensor, not much is known about it save for some rumored specs and features.

Unfortunately it seems that we will still have to wait for Nikon to unveil more details, but in the meantime the folks at Nikon Rumors have published some additional details about the camera, which according to them will basically result in the D850 being a “baby” version of the D5, which is one of Nikon’s higher-end cameras.

According to the report, the D850 will feature 10fps shooting speeds, which might be useful for those looking to shoot action or sports photos. It is also rumored to sport a 46MP full-frame sensor, and that it will apparently be priced at 1,000 Euros more than that of the D810. In fact it seems that the launch of the D850 will not see the D810 being discontinued as it has been rumored that both cameras will exist side-by-side.

Recently there have been rumors to suggest that the D850 could sport a hybrid viewfinder system that combines an OVF with an EVF, but there has been some skepticism about those claims, but either way take it with a grain of salt for now.

Nikon And Canon Announce Delays For Some Of Their Cameras

If you were thinking of getting your hands on either the 100th anniversary edition of the Nikon D5, or the recently launched Canon EOS 6D MK II, then you might be disappointed to learn that coincidentally enough both cameras have been announced as being delayed. These announcements were made by Nikon and Canon respectively on their websites.

According to Nikon’s website and based on the translation, it reads, “Regarding the following models that were scheduled to be released on July 28, we will postpone the release in early August, as it takes time to final adjust the product. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience incurring a great deal to customers waiting for product launch.”

As for Canon, note that the delay only seems to apply to the EOS 6D MK II with the kit lens bundle. Canon’s website reads, “Digital SLR camera that we are planning to release on August 4 EOS 6D Mark II · EF 24-70 F4L IS USM Lens Kit We are currently receiving very many orders that exceed the plan and deliver goods It is expected that you will receive your time.”

Based on the wording it seems that this only applies to those who want to purchase the camera with the kit lens, which means that if you don’t mind body-only then you might be able to get your hands on it earlier.

Spotify Reportedly Looking To Launch A New Podcast Initiative

Back when music streaming services were first launched, they were exactly that, which is a platform for users to stream music from. However with so many services available today, these platforms need to start offering up more features to set themselves apart from the competition, and it looks like Spotify could be working on something new.

According to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that Spotify is apparently working on a new podcast initiative. The report claims that Spotify has agreed to promote more podcasts on its app as well as via ads on buses, and in return, several prominent podcasts such as “Reply All,” “Pod Save America”, and “The Bill Simmons Podcast” have agreed to promote Spotify on social media and during their shows.

Matt Lieber, co-founder and president of Gimlet Media who produces the “Reply All” podcast, “The potential for Spotify is to introduce this caliber of storytelling to a much larger audience, who are already in a listening mindset. I see a growing effort to make podcasts more accessible on the platform. And they’re making progress.”

This is an interesting direction for Spotify considering that many typically associate podcasts with Apple. Podcasts do have a pretty big presence, with Bloomberg citing a survey from earlier this year that revealed that 15% of Americans over 12 had listened to a podcast in the past week, while a quarter listen to one at least once a month.

Google’s G Suite Update Makes Scheduling Work Meetings Easier

Ideally in a workplace, there would be one platform that everyone uses to send emails, schedule meetings, sync with colleagues, and so on. However sometimes that isn’t always the case as sometimes different platforms are being used simultaneously, but the good news is that this is something that Google wants to address in the latest update to their G Suite apps.

Google has announced that they will now be making it easier to manage your Google Calendar and Microsoft Exchange Server. “Once Calendar Interop is set up for your domain, end users will be able to see each other’s free/busy information across the two systems. This information will be available to users in Google Calendar’s Find a Time and Microsoft Outlook’s Scheduling Assistant. Calendar Interop works in real time and is supported on Google Calendar for Android, iOS and web.”

Basically this means that users will be able to see when others are free to schedule meetings with, and with it being supported in real-time, you don’t have to double check with your colleague as to whether or not they are free (although we suppose it would be the polite thing to do). The feature will be made available across multiple platforms ranging from desktop to mobile, with Google saying that the rollout should be completed in the next 3 days.
