Numworks Updates the Graphing Calculator for the 21st Century

When I was in school, the best calculator you could get would be one of those crazy expensive HP-10C’s which offered some very fancy math abilities that I never fully understood, but the smartest students were using them, so they must have been good. That said, the HP-10C’s tiny LCD screen couldn’t come close to this new calculator from Numworks.

The Numworks Graphing Calculator is designed to help high school students learn and solve math problems, and includes a variety of built-in programs for different math scenarios. It’s got apps for calculation, functions, sequences, probability, statistics, and regression, as well as a tool for designing and executing Python algorithms.

Unlike smartphone and tablet apps, this is something students can safely use in class, without risk of going online and Snapchatting instead of doing their schoolwork.

It’s got a 2.8″ full color, backlit LCD screen with a 320×240 resolution for easy viewing of graphs and calculations. Sadly, it’s not a touchscreen, and must be navigated using the buttons below the display. Still that’s a minor drawback given its capabilities. Battery life is rated at 20 hours.

Priced at just $99.99(USD), it packs a whole lot of functionality without breaking the bank like the old HP-10C once did. You can test out how the Numworks calculator works right now using their online simulator.

New Moto X4 Price Might Start At $350

Recent rumors have suggested that Motorola has a new Moto X handset in the pipeline. The leaks we’ve seen so far suggest that it’s going to be called the Moto X4 and that it’s going to have mid-range specifications. Word on the street is that the handset will be launched on September 2nd and that its price is going to start at $350 in the United States.

It’s possible that we might hear Motorola talk about its handset at the IFA 2017 convention in Berlin later this week. The company is yet to confirm anything officially about this device.

The handset is expected to feature a full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor. It may also feature IP68 water resistance, a 3,000mAh battery, and a dual camera system at the back.

The latest rumor suggests that the Moto X4 price for customers in the United States is going to start at $349.99. That’s what the company might charge for the 32GB model. It’s also going to sell a model with 64GB of storage which will apparently cost $399.99.

None of this has been officially confirmed as yet so far. Take this with a grain of salt until we hear official word from the company about the Moto X4.

Sonos Smart Speaker Will Be Unveiled On October 4th

We recently reported on the possibility that Sonos was developing its very own smart speaker. While the company hasn’t confirmed such a product so far, it has sent out invites to the press for an event on October 4th. It’s reportedly going to launch its first smart speaker at this event.

The Sonos smart speaker was recently spotted in an FCC filing. The filing revealed that it’s going to have voice control with far field microphones which will be able to pick up voice commands from across the room.

The event invites that Sonos has sent out feature a subtle hint to voice control as well. They feature an image of an open mouth. There’s an image in the lower left corner of the invite which is similar to what we saw in the FCC filing. It looks like a controller graphic with play/pause controls and a microphone icon.

It’s unlikely that Sonos has developed its own smart assistant for the product. The FCC filing suggests that it’s actually going to have support for multiple voice assistants. It’s unclear which assistants it will support at launch.

Sonos hasn’t revealed any further information about its upcoming device so far and it’s unlikely going to do so prior to the event. Sonos is going to unveil its first smart speaker at an event in New York City on October 4th.

Google Providing $20 Project Fi Service Credit To Users In Hurricane Harvey Areas

Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas a couple of days back. It has caused a lot of problems for tens of thousands of people in the state. Many have been forced out of their homes due to urban flooding. Some major tech companies are doing their bit to help people in the affected areas. Google is helping out by providing $20 Project Fi credit for free to users in those areas.

A Project Fi Community Manager confirmed on Reddit that Project Fi users in those areas will receive $20 service credit automatically.

The company acknowledges that many people have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. It hopes that the $20 service credit it’s providing will help users search for resources or reach out to loved ones.

Project Fi users whose indicated billing zip codes are part of the impacted areas, Google will automatically apply a $20 service credit to their account over the next few days. They will be able to use that service credit as they see fit.

Major carriers in the United States are also helping out by waiving text, data, and call charges for people in the affected areas. It makes sense for Project Fi to do something similar. Apple is also connecting donations for the American Red Cross through iTunes.

Apple’s 4K Movie Plans Are Apparently Being Spoiled By Hollywood

Apple is expected to launch an upgraded Apple TV set-top box recently. The device is expected to bring support for 4K Ultra High-Definition resolution. Apple will also need to arrange 4K content if it wants people to leverage the full power of its new set-top box. However, if a new report is to be believed, Hollywood isn’t playing ball with Apple as far as the pricing of the movies is concerned.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple wants to charge $19.99 for major movies in 4K UHD resolution. This is similar to what the company already charges for newer movies in full HD resolution.

Some Hollywood studios are reportedly not happy with this price point. They feel that Apple should add a premium of $5 to $10 to the price so that digital purchases of their movies earns them more money.

“I wouldn’t tell Apple how to price their iPads,” the scribe quotes one studio executive involved in the negotiations as saying. It’s unclear if the studios and Apple have reached a deal on this.

The company would want to wrap this up as quickly as possible. After all, Apple is expected to unveil the new Apple TV at its September event. So there’s not a lot of time between now and when the company is likely going to launch a new Apple TV alongside the new iPhones.

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Finale Breaks Viewership Records

It’s a headline we read every year after HBO airs that year’s season finale of Game of Thrones. It’s not surprising as well, given that Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the most popular TV shows on the planet. HBO has confirmed that the Game of Thrones season 7 finale has broken viewership records. It’s the most watched episode ever.

HBO has confirmed that the Game of Thrones season 7 finale was the most watched episode in the entire history of this series. The cable giant says that 12.1 million viewers tuned into watch the live broadcast of the final episode titled The Dragon and the Wolf.

The number jumps even higher when you factor in streaming services like HBO Go. The total figure in that scenario reaches 16.5 million. This doesn’t include all of the people across the globe that watched pirated copies of the finale just hours after it aired.

It’s quite possible that no other show will be able to break this record that Game of Thrones has yet. It may be the series’ own eighth and final season that ends up doing that.

Fans of the show will have to wait for a considerable amount of time for the new season though, it’s not expected for almost two years.
