Sony PlayStation VR Price Cut

Hot on the heels of a permanent $200 price cut by HTC for its Vive virtual reality headset, Sony is also cutting the PlayStation VR price. The company has dropped the price of its two PlayStation VR bundles. It’s now selling the $399 core PlayStation VR set which only included the headset previously with the PlayStation Camera. The camera itself costs $59. It’s now a part of the core bundle.

Sony also sells a more expensive PlayStation VR bundle. This one used to cost $499. It includes two PlayStation Move controllers, a camera, and PlayStation Worlds, a minigame collection produced by Sony.

The company has discounted this bundle to $449. It’s going to start selling both bundles from September 1st. Customers in the United States and Canada will be able to take advantage of these reduced prices.

Both bundles will also be arriving at retailers on September 1st. Customers who want to pick one up are encouraged to check with their local retailers.

In the grand scheme of things, Sony’s price cut for the PlayStation VR headset isn’t as substantial as what we’ve seen HTC do for the Vive VR headset. Nevertheless, customers will appreciate that Sony has made the PSVR a bit more attainable for them.

Facebook Pages Spreading Fake News Won’t Be Able To Buy Ads

Facebook has been taking concrete steps to tackle the fake news problem on its platform. The company today announced that it’s no longer going to allow Pages that spread fake news to buy ads. It will actively block Pages from advertising on the site as long as they’re spreading fake news. It already doesn’t allow advertisers to run ads that link to stories that have been marked false by third-party fact-checking organizations.

Facebook has confirmed in a statement that if Pages repeatedly share stories that have been marked as false, the repeat offenders will no longer be allowed to advertise on Facebook. The company says that this is going to help reduce the distribution of fake news which will prevent Pages that spread fake news from making money.

It has found instances of Pages using Facebook ads to build their audiences in order to spread fake news more broadly. “False news is harmful to our community. It makes the world less informed and erodes trust,” Facebook says.

It has been working to fight the spread of false news in three key areas. They include disrupting the economic incentives to create fake news, building new products that help curb their spread, and enabling users to make more informed decisions when they encounter fake news. The ban on advertising won’t be permanent, though.

Facebook says that if those Pages stop sharing fake news, they will be eligible to start running as once again.

Hulu Live TV Service Adds The CW

Hulu has announced that it has added the fifth largest broadcast network to its standalone online TV streaming service. Aimed at cord cutters, Hulu’s Live TV service already offers Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC. The CW will soon be available for live streaming on Hulu’s over-the-top internet TV streaming service.

The fifth major broadcast network, the CW, is home to some popular shows like Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash. Those who subscribe to Hulu’s online TV streaming service will now be able to watch a linear stream of the channel live using the online service.

Hulu is also going to add local station broadcasts so that subscribers see the same programming online that they will receive when watching over-the-air. The company hasn’t confirmed when The CW will go live on its service, though.

It has only said that Hulu subscribers will be able to stream The CW “in the coming months.” The current season of the network’s shows will be available on demand so that’s an added benefit for subscribers.

Hulu has recently been improving its live TV streaming service. Not too long ago, it announced support for PC and Mac, while confirming that it’s working on a much better browser-based version of the service.

Dell VR Visor Launched

Ubergizmo co-founder Hubert Nguyen tries Dell’s new VR headset

Dell is jumping on the virtual reality bandwagon with a new product that it’s calling the Dell Visor. It’s a VR headset for Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality platform. The Visor is meant to be used with the company’s notebooks which will power the virtual reality experiences.

There aren’t a lot of details available about the Dell Visor at this point in time. It’ going to have 1440×1440 pixel resolution LCD panels with enough counterbalancing and padding to ensure that it remains comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.

Reports suggest that the Dell Visor can be worn over glasses and has a hinged faceplate that users can flip back to see the real world without having to remove the entire headset. All of the wires and cables clip securely at the back of the headset.

The Dell Visor is going to be released in October and the company will start pre-sales next month. Customers who want one will have to pay $349 for the Dell Visor. There will also be compatible controllers that will cost $100 each.

Microsoft and its partners will talk more about Windows Mixed Reality devices later this week at the IFA 2017 convention in Berlin. A wide variety of headsets will be released in the holiday season as Microsoft seeks to “democratize” virtual reality.

IFA is a critical launch platform for the biggest brands on the planet, and this year should be no different. It is the last major international electronics trade show before the holiday season. Keep an eye on Ubergizmo as we cover some of the best product launches revealed at IFA 2017!

LG

LG’s much-rumored V30 flagship is finally going to be unveiled at IFA 2017. The company recently sent out invites to the press for an event which takes place in Berlin on Thursday, August 31st.

LG’s second flagship of 2017 will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor as well as a dual camera system. It’s likely going to lose the secondary screen that started out as the biggest differentiating factor of LG’s V series. This is the handset that LG will be pitting against the Galaxy Note 8s and the iPhone 8s of the world in the second half of 2017.

Sony

Sony has traditionally used the IFA stage to unveil new flagship smartphones and it’s expected to stick with that tradition this year as well. Recent reports suggest that a bezel-less Sony flagship will be unveiled at IFA 2017.

There aren’t a lot of details available about this device so far but it can reasonably be expected to feature flagship-level specs and a bezel-less display, a trend that has caught on with many OEMs this year.

Huawei

China-based Huawei is one of the fastest growing smartphones OEMs in the market right now. The company is due to unveil its Huawei Mate 10 flagships but reports claim that it won’t unveil the handsets until October this year, well after IFA 2017.

The company did release a teaser recently which suggested that Huawei is going to make artificial intelligence-related announcements at its IFA 2017 event on September 2nd. Huawei is reportedly going to unveil a new artificial intelligence processor, a dedicated chip for AI, which will, in theory, add more smart features to its future devices.

Samsung

Samsung conducted its own event recently in New York to unveil the Galaxy Note 8. While the company has previously used the IFA stage to launch new Galaxy Note handsets, it decided against that this time around.

The company did say that it’s going to unveil a new Gear smartwatch at IFA so we have that to look forward to. It’s also expected to unveil a new fitness tracker at the event. We may even get to see some new mid-range tablets from Samsung in Berlin.

Motorola

There haven’t been many rumors so far about what we can expect from Motorola this year at IFA. However, it’s likely that we might get to see a new smartphone from the Lenovo-owned company.

The new Moto X4 has been making the rounds over the past few weeks. It’s expected to feature a 5.2 inch full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It may even have a dual camera system at the back.

Lenovo

Lenovo’s IFA 2017 press conference is going to take place on August 31st, just before the convention is opened to the public. Not much has been leaked as yet with regards to new products from the Chinese company so we shall see what it has in store for us.

Acer

As expected, Acer will be conducting a press conference at IFA 2017 as well. There’s also going to be a product showcase. It’s unclear at this point in time what Acer will be unveiling. The company is likely going to unveil new notebooks at the event.

The company has previously launched new wearable devices at IFA events in the past so it’s likely that we might get to see some of those products this year as well.

Asus

Asus has a press conference scheduled on August 30th. The company hasn’t dropped many hints as yet about what it’s going to unveil at the event. It unveiled the ZenWatch 3 last year so perhaps we might get to see a successor to the smartwatch.

It’s also likely that Asus might launch new notebooks at IFA 2017 and may even show off its new ZenFone handsets.

About IFA

IFA is the biggest consumer electronics show in Europe. Companies always schedule their press conferences a few days before the convention opens to attendees from across the globe. The companies then showcase their newly announced products at their booths in the exhibition halls.

IFA 2017 takes place from September 1st – September 6th at Messe Berlin, Germany this year. Professionals working in the fields of consumer electronics and home appliances are always in attendance. The number of attendees was estimated at 240,000 last year and it’s expected to be higher in 2017.

Samsung May Bring The Infinity Display To Premium Mid-Range Handsets

Samsung introduced the Infinity Display with the Galaxy S8 earlier this year. It’s the company’s version of a bezel-less display. It involves removing the home button, repositioning the fingerprint sensor at the back, and stretching the display as much as possible to all four corners. It has worked wonders for Galaxy S8 sales and now Samsung might be thinking about bringing it to its premium mid-range handsets.

According to a rumor out of China, Samsung is going to bring its Infinity Display to its premium mid-range handsets. It may kick things off with next year’s Galaxy A series.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A (2017) series in January this year. The company isn’t due to launch the successors to those handsets until early next year. The rumor suggests that when the new Galaxy A series arrives, we’ll find it sporting the Infinity Display.

If this is really the case, it would mean that next year’s Galaxy A smartphones will not have physical home buttons like the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8. Samsung will also have to reposition the fingerprint sensor to the rear of the handset.

It’s just pure speculation at this point in time so it wouldn’t be wise to be sure about this just yet. We’re bound to hear a lot more rumors about these handsets before they’re made official next year.
