And that update may have just given Apple the advantage to reclaim the title of King of Smartphone Cameras. The second new smartphone it tested after the update (the Xperia XZ Premium being the first), the iPhone 8 Plus now … Continue reading

iPhone 8 Put Through A Scratch And Bend Test

Apple’s new iPhone 8 sports a slightly new design in which the back portion of the phone is now covered in glass similar to that of the iPhone 4 and 4S. From a design point of view it looks amazing, but in terms of practicality, it looks like it could end up being prone to scratches and smudges.

For those wondering about the durability of the glass on the back of the iPhone 8, YouTuber JerryRigEverything decided to put the phone through its paces by performing scratch and bend tests on it, to see how well it could hold up under abuse. According to his findings, the iPhone 8 seems to hold up pretty well and only starts to scratch at a Moh level 6 hardness, which puts it in line with other flagship phones.

This means that for the most part putting it together in your phone with your keys and coins should not damage the phone. However what was interesting was the camera lens cover, which in the past used to be covered by sapphire, but the tests found that it could be scratched with at a Moh level 6 hardness.

This has led to speculation that it could be some kind of hybrid material or a proprietary material used by Apple instead of pure sapphire. However like we said the phone seems to hold up pretty well, but we guess getting a case to further protect it might not be the worst idea considering it might be expensive to replace.

Bezel-less HTC U11 Plus Rumored For November

In terms of design, the HTC U11 is certainly different from the competition. Instead of a more somber look, it has been given a rather bright and shiny finish, but if there was one thing we wish HTC could have done was reduce or eliminate the bezels like we’re seeing offered by the competition.

For fans of HTC who might have been wishing the same thing, you guys might be in luck because according to a report from French website FrAndroid (via GSMArena), HTC could be working on a handset known as the HTC U11 Plus that could be launching this November with a bezel-less display.

The handset in question is said to be codenamed “Ocean Master” which is something we have heard about in the past. It is said to sport a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, a near bezel-less display with a QHD+ resolution. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835, come with 6GB of RAM, and will sport the same camera setup as the HTC U11, while also being IP68 certified and will also come with support for wireless charging.

It is a rather interesting rumor given that recently Google has announced that they’ll be acquiring some of HTC’s smartphone team, so take it with a grain of salt but with an announcement pegged for November, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Is The Switch’s Best-Selling Third-Party Title

When Nintendo and Ubisoft officially announced Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle earlier this year, safe to say that this was a collaboration that not many had expected. However it turned out to be a great idea because from what we are hearing, the title is selling pretty well, so much so that it is apparently the best-selling third-party title for the Nintendo Switch.

This is according to the sales figures tracked by companies such as NPD and Chart-Track GFK who tracked the sales of the title over markets such as North America and Australia. However note that this is based on physical sales of the title, although we suppose that it could also be a potential gauge for overall sales as well.

So far the third-party releases we’ve seen for the Switch have been mostly well-received, like Super Bomberman R and Puyo Puyo Tetris, just to name a few. That being said, there are still quite a few third-party titles that have yet to be released on the Switch, such as Bethesda who recently announced a slew of third-party games for the Switch, such as 2016’s DOOM reboot, Wolfenstein II, and Skyrim, some of which are expected to be launched this year, while the rest will be arriving in 2018.

Facebook Will Show Ads Based On Stores You Visit

Have you ever come across ads based on searches you’ve done on the web? For example if you were shopping for an item like a camera and you went around checking prices, and not too long after you start seeing ads for cameras on platforms like Facebook. This is done through tracking, which we guess is more or less to be expected while being online.

However it seems that Facebook could be bringing that tracking to offline stores, where based on your location, Facebook could serve ads based on brick-and-mortar stores that you might have visited offline. This is a feature that Facebook appears to be rolling out to businesses that allows them to target audiences based on locations that they might have been in real-life.

According to Facebook, “For example, a real estate company can automatically show an ad with their latest house listings to people who have called to schedule an open house tour in the last 30 days. Businesses can also create lookalike audiences to find new potential shoppers that share characteristics with their best customers that shop offline.”

We’re sure that this is probably something that not many people might appreciate, and as it stands companies like Apple have built-in blockers into their browsers which prevents cookies from tracking users outside of its website, something that advertising organizations aren’t too happy about.

iPhone 8 Could Be Facing A ‘Bleak’ Launch In Australia

Many were probably pretty excited ahead of Apple’s iPhone announcements, but it seems that following the announcements, things haven’t appeared to be too good for the company. According to a report from Reuters (via MacRumors), it seems that the turnout for the iPhone 8 in Australia appear to be rather bleak.

The report claims that over in Sydney, about 30 people turned up for the iPhone 8’s release, with users from other parts in Australia also sharing similar experiences. In a way it is rather ironic because ahead of the iPhones being announced, lines had already begun to form, but it seems that might have been the extent of it.

While it is unclear why there appears to be less people this year, there could be a number of factors, such as how people might now prefer making their purchases online. An alternative is that customers appear to be holding out for the iPhone X, which is what many analysts seem to suggest.

However this doesn’t mean that the iPhone 8 is a flop, it’s just that demand does not appear to be too great this year. We will have to wait for the official figures to be released before we will know the truth, but in the meantime Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has suggested that some stores have already sold out of the device.
