Facebook To Crackdown On Hate-Driven Targeted Ads

Due to the nature of Facebook in which anyone can post pretty much anything they want and say whatever they want, more often than not it’s more about dealing with the aftermath of such incidents rather than actually preventing them, like in the case of the spreading of fake news in which it is only in more recent times that Facebook is trying to clamp down on it.

The same can be said for hate speech on the social network where recently it was discovered that due to a flaw in Facebook’s ad system, it allowed users to purchase ads that targeted “Jew Haters” or anti-Semites. Apparently this was allowed as Facebook’s ad network allowed users to choose anti-Semitic sentiments as valid ad categories, and obviously this did not go down well as Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg has since come forward and announced that they’ll be clamping down on such ads in the future.

According to Sandberg, this will come in the form of clarifying Facebook’s advertising policies to ensure that content that goes against their community standards can be used to target ads. “This includes anything that directly attacks people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender or gender identity, or disabilities or diseases.”

She also adds that they’ll be adding more human review and oversight to their automated processes to ensure that nothing slips past them anymore. Last but not least, Sandberg says that, “we are working to create a program to encourage people on Facebook to report potential abuses of our ads system to us directly. We have had success with such programs for our technical systems and we believe we can do something similar with ads.”

YouTube Gaming Sponsorships Now Open To All Creators

It is clear that with the launch of YouTube Gaming, the company is hoping to take on the likes of Twitch where they’re hoping that viewers will tune into their site and use their platform to watch and stream video games. Now it looks like YouTube is trying to sweeten the deal by opening up sponsorships to all of its creators.

Prior to this, YouTube was testing out sponsorships where its availability was limited to those who were chosen to be part of its beta program, but the recent announcement has indicated that YouTube will open up sponsorships to all of its YouTube Gaming creators (assuming they are eligible and meet certain requirements).

According to YouTube, “With sponsorships, fans can purchase digital goods directly from your channel and support you via monthly recurring payments of $4.99 USD (local pricing applies). Sponsors get cool insider perks, such as a custom badge for live chat that will help them stand out from the crowd and custom emoji. These badges and emoji are designed by you for your fans.”

YouTube is claiming that they have seen some successes with the sponsorship feature but it remains to be seen how well it will do now that it has been opened up to more. There have been some recent criticism about how it is harder to make money on YouTube these days, so maybe this sponsorship feature could be a new way to go about it.

iPhone X Final Production Has Reportedly Not Yet Begun

When Apple announced the iPhone X, they also revealed that unlike the iPhone 8 that is expected to be released this month, the iPhone X would instead be released in November. This is in line with earlier reports that suggested that the iPhone X could be facing some production issues, and a new report from Barron’s has seemingly confirmed it.

According to Raymond James’s chip analyst Chris Caso, “While our checks are ongoing, initial feedback from our meetings suggests that final production of iPhone X has not yet begun, with production expected to commence in mid-October. That production start is about a month later when compared to expectations a month ago, and about 2 months later than expectations at the end of June.”

Caso’s report is similar to what we have been hearing recently, which is that mass production of the iPhone X could only begin in October or November. As to the reason behind the delay, it is said that the complexity of the iPhone X could be the main reason why, like with the display in which Samsung has to change their manufacturing process just for Apple.

We’ve also heard from other analysts that the iPhone X could still be facing some supply issues well into 2018, so if you are thinking about getting the phone, then maybe you’ll want to pull the trigger ASAP or risk waiting a long time for your order to arrive.

Google Could Have A Trade-In Program For Project Fi

Carriers have long offered their customers trade-in programs where users after a certain amount of time, customers have the option of swapping out their older phone for a newer device, which is one of the ways to encourage customers to keep using the carrier’s network and services. Now it looks like Google’s Project Fi could start accepting trade-ins as well.

In a new support page on Google’s website, Google has highlighted how there will be a trade-in program at both the Google Store and Project Fi. Not all phones will be accepted, but it seems that for the most part the major brands will be covered, which includes handsets from Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei, Motorola, as well as select Nexus-branded smartphones.

The amount of money you can get for your phone will vary from brand to brand. According to 9to5Google, a 128GB Nexus 6P will get users about $165, while a 32GB iPhone 7 Plus will net users as much as $332. It is interesting that Google has chosen now to launch its trade-in program, especially when you consider how close it is to the launch of Google’s new Pixel phones.

Also if you recall, a recent leak has revealed that Google’s Pixel 2 handsets will be more expensive than their predecessors, which means that now is as good a time as any to launch a trade-in program to encourage customers to purchase the new phones. We expect more details will be shared soon, so check back with us at a later date for more information.

Need for Speed Payback PC System Requirements Released

When it comes to racing games, EA’s Need For Speed franchise is one of the more popular titles around, and last year there were reports that suggested that a new installment in the franchise is in the works. This was revealed earlier this year at E3 2017 when Need For Speed Payback was officially announced.

The game is expected to find its way onto the Xbox One, PS4, and the PC later this year, but if you’re planning on playing the game on the PC, then you might want to check out the system requirements that was recently published by the folks at NVIDIA due to the fact that NVIDIA will be the game’s GPU partner on this release. It is also not surprising that AMD’s GPUs weren’t mentioned either, but the folks at PC Invasion have offered up some potential AMD equivalents.

Starting with the minimum requirements that will let gamers run the game at 720p at 30 FPS, which is basically the game’s “low” settings, it will require an Intel i3-6300 or AMD FX 8150 CPU or better, with 6GB of RAM, 30GB of storage, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, GTX 1050, or an AMD 7850/78670 or better.

For gamers looking to push the game’s performance further for a 1080p at 60 FPS experience, they are required to have an Intel I5 4690K or AMD FX 8350 CPU or better, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or an AMD Radeon RX 480 or 580 or better. Obviously if you have better specs than that then you should be able to run the game at even higher settings. Need For Speed Payback is currently set for a release on the 10th of November, 2017.
