Toggling Off Bluetooth & WiFi In iOS 11’s Control Center Doesn’t Fully Disable It

With Control Center, Apple is bringing users quick access to certain features of the operating system, like toggling on/off Bluetooth and WiFi. Now you would think that turning these features on/off via Control Center would do what it’s meant to do, but apparently that is not the case because despite being toggled off in Control Center, they aren’t fully disabled.

You might think that this is a bug but in a support document posted on Apple’s website, it seems that this was done on purpose. According to Apple, “In iOS 11 and later, when you toggle the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth buttons in Control Center, your device will immediately disconnect from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth accessories.”

However they note that Bluetooth and WiFi will continue to be available for use with certain features of the iOS device, such as AirDrop, AirPlay, Apple Pencil, Apple Watch, Continuity features, like Handoff and Instant Hotspot, Instant Hotspot, and Location Services. Users who want to fully disable Bluetooth and WiFi will have to go into the Settings menu to do so, and not via Control Panel.

We suppose this could be rather confusing for some users so it’s something to take note of if for whatever reason you want to fully disable Bluetooth or WiFi on your iOS device.

Older Apple Watches Won’t Be Supported On The AirPower Charging Mat

With the announcement of the new iPhones, Apple also announced that the new iPhones and a couple of other Apple products would finally be supporting wireless charging. As expected Apple also introduced their own wireless charging accessory in the form of AirPower which is basically a wireless charging mat for your devices.

In the photos we’ve seen, the AirPower mat will support wireless charging for the iPhone, the AirPods (if it’s equipped with the wireless charging case), and the Apple Watch. Unfortunately for owners of older Apple Watch devices, it seems that the AirPower will only play nicely with the Apple Watch Series 3.

This is according to Apple’s own website in which the comparison page between the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 3 lists support for AirPower as being one of the main differences. Prior to this it was speculated that because the Apple Watch uses induction charging that it could support wireless charging, but we guess not.

The AirPower charging mat is only expected to arrive in 2018 and supposedly uses a new charging standard that will support multiple devices, which is why despite Apple using the Qi wireless charging standard in their iPhones, there are claims that the AirPower charging mat won’t work with other devices.

Official Trailer For Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ Released

We’ve known for a while that Netflix was working on new Marvel TV series based around Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. The character made its debut in the second season of Daredevil and it seems that the character was so well-received that Netflix decided to give it its own series.

For those who can’t wait to check out what the series has in store for them, you’ll be pleased to learn that Netflix has since released the official trailer for the upcoming show. The Punisher TV series on Netflix will see actor Jon Bernthal reprise his role as Frank Castle as well as Ebon Moss-Bachrach who has been cast as Microchip, an ally of Frank Castle.

It also appears that based on the trailer that Deborah Ann Woll will be making an appearance in the series, who for those unfamiliar plays the role of Karen Page in the Daredevil series. Unfortunately there is no mention of a release date yet, but Netflix does state that they plan to release the series this year, and given that we’re almost in October, we reckon it shouldn’t be too far off.

That being said, if you recall Disney recently confirmed that Marvel and Star Wars related shows are expected to eventually be an exclusive to Disney’s own streaming service, so we wonder if the partnership with Netflix is expected to continue through some kind of some special deal or exemption.

iPhone 8 Pre-Orders Reportedly Lower Than The iPhone 6, iPhone 7

For the past several quarters, Apple’s iPhone sales have been on the decline which some are attributing to the market being saturated, while others are saying that Apple hasn’t really done anything new to the iPhone in the past three generations. However it is expected that Apple’s new iPhones are meant to bring back a period of a super cycle for the company.

Unfortunately that might not be the case, at least as far as the iPhone 8 is concerned. According to a report from Rosenblatt analyst Jun Zhang, it seems that iPhone 8 pre-orders aren’t as hot as one might imagine, and that apparently it is lower than that of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. It is possible that overall sales could overtake that of its predecessors, but for now pre-orders aren’t looking so hot.

This is based on pre-orders taken on JD.com where in the first 3 days, only 1.5 million iPhone 8 pre-orders were taken compared to the 3.5 million of the iPhone 7. Since this is just one source, we would say that it doesn’t necessarily reflect pre-orders for the rest of the world, but this isn’t the first time we’re hearing that iPhone 8 pre-orders aren’t doing as well as it could.

Recently another analyst has suggested that the iPhone 8’s pre-orders are being affected by the iPhone X, where the iPhone X is expected to be released in November and that customers are opting to wait for it rather than purchase the iPhone 8, although there are reports to suggest that they could be in for a long wait as supply is said to be constrained well into 2018.
