Google released Android 8.0 Oreo not too long ago. However, it’s going to be a while before third-party devices get it. It was reported recently that Samsung has started development on the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. If a new report is believed, the company might launch a beta program for the new firmware soon.
Samsung did run a beta program for the Nougat update last year for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. It won’t be surprising if it decides to do the same for this year’s flagship smartphones as well.
Newer Oreo firmware versions for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have been spotted, G950FXXE1ZQI7 and G955FXXU1ZQI7 respectively, and SamMobile reports that the “Z” in the firmware version corresponds with its beta status. This was also spotted on the Nougat beta releases last year.
No further information is available at this point in time so it’s too soon to speculate about when the Galaxy S8 Oreo beta program might go live and the markets where it might be offered.
The recently released Galaxy Note 8 is due to receive Android 8.0 Oreo as well so it remains to be seen if the Galaxy Note 8 will be included in the beta program as well. We’ll update you once there’s more information about this.

Intel’s has already delayed its Cannon Lake processors twice in the past and if a new report is to be believed, the company has now decided to delay the Cannon Lake release for the third time. The additional wait times have already impact plans of notebook vendors who were planning on using the 10nm chips in their products.
Intel claims that its 10nm Cannon Lake processors will be a “full generation” ahead of rivals from Samsung and TSMC. It says this will be possible due to “hyper scaling,” which simply put, incorporates twice as many transistors in the same space.
Citing upstream supply chain sources, DigiTimes reports that Intel has delayed the release of its next-generation Cannon Lake processors to the end of 2018.
The report adds that some vendors are actually thinking about skipping the Cannon Lake generation altogether and waiting for its successor instead. According to Intel’s roadmap, the Ice Lake processors should be available shortly after Cannon Lake’s delayed release.
Intel was expected to launch its 10nm Cannon Lake processors initially in 2017 but the release timeframe was first revised to the end of 2017 and later to mid-2018. If this new report is believed, Intel won’t be shipping them until the end of next year.
The reason behind this is claimed to be the problems that Intel is facing with its 10nm process. The company hasn’t confirmed anything about this so far so take this information with a grain of salt.

It was reported recently that an Android One version of the Moto X4 could be launched soon. The reports have turned out to be true. The Android One Moto X4 has been launched on Project Fi, Google’s prepaid carrier. Project Fi customers now have access to a cheaper device as the only phones available until recently that were compatible on Fi were the Google Pixel and Pixel XL.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were compatible with Project Fi but they’re no longer being sold. This meant that anyone switching to Project Fi had to buy a Pixel which was more expensive. You can bring your own device to Project Fi since it relies on special software that handles network switching.
All of the specifications of this handset are similar to the Moto X4 that’s already available. The only major difference is that this is an Android One device, meaning that it runs on stock Android with no bloatware.
Google confirms that this handset will receive Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of this year. It adds that the Android One Moto X4 will be “among the first to receive an upgrade to Android P.”
Project Fi customers can purchase the Moto X4 for $399. They can trade-in an old Nexus device and get up to $165 as trade-in value. Customers who trade-in a device before October 5th will also receive $50 in Fi credit.
Offered in Super Black and Sterling Blue, the Android One Moto X4 is now available for pre-order on the Project Fi website.

Facebook owns Instagram, the most popular online photo sharing network. It wants to make it easier for its billion-plus users to access their Instagram profiles easily from within the main Facebook app. To that end, the company has now made it possible for users to launch the Instagram app directly from inside the Facebook app.
Facebook is rolling out a new addition to the main navigation menu in its mobile app which will include a link to the user’s Instagram account.
The link will be positioned below the link to the user’s personal profile in the Facebook page. The link will be positioned above the links to any and all Facebook Pages that the user may manage.
When the link is clicked, the Instagram app on the user’s phone will be launched. They will be taken to their main feed inside the app. The experience is thus similar to launching the Instagram app from the phone’s home screen.
This move isn’t reciprocal so there’s isn’t a new link in the Instagram app that takes people back to their Facebook profiles by launching the Facebook app. That’s not to say it might never get that in the future.
“We’re looking at ways to help people stay in touch with their friends on Facebook and Instagram,” a Facebook spokesperson said while confirming to TechCrunch that this new feature is now live for those who use its mobile apps.
