Airbnb Now Does Restaurant Reservations

You can use Airbnb to book a room in almost all countries across the globe but now you will be able to use the app to book a table at a restaurant as well. Granted, this feature is not going to be initially available in all markets that are currently serviced by Airbnb. Starting today, Airbnb users in the United States can book a tablet at almost 650 restaurants across the country. This feature is powered by Resy within the Airbnb app.

Airbnb says that it’s adding the ability to book reservations at a curated selection of restaurants because it’s aligned with its vision of focusing on the user’s entire trip and not just homes that they can rent.

It follows the launch of Experiences last year which lets users book a wide range of activities with locals to better discover and experience their destinations.

Airbnb users will now be able to book a table at popular restaurants like Petit Crenn in San Francisco, Kismet in Los Angeles, Bateau in Seattle, or Thip Khao in Washington, D.C. without having to leave the Airbnb app.

Users can search for restaurants by cuisine, time of day or use a map view to find restaurants in the neighborhood where they’re staying. Airbnb is working on translations within the app so that cross-language travelers don’t have to worry about using a foreign booking site.

Airbnb confirms that it’s going to work with Resy to expand this feature to international destinations in the coming months.

The UK Government Wanted WhatsApp To Build A Backdoor

WhatsApp is one of the most popular cross-platform messaging services on the planet. It processes more than a billion messages every single day. As you can probably imagine, it often has to deal with governments and law enforcement agencies that want access to user data. The Facebook-owned company reportedly rejected a request from the UK government that wanted it to build a backdoor to access encrypted messages.

Sky News reports that the UK government “demanded” that WhatsApp develop a way that provides them with access to encrypted messages this summer. This is commonly referred to as a backdoor. WhatsApp reportedly rejected the request.

A security source cited in the report says that the inability to access terrorists’ encrypted conversations are creating a “black hole” for the security services. All WhatsApp conversations are encrypted.

“It is crucially important that we can access their communications – and when we can’t, it can provide a black hole for investigators,” the source adds.

The scribe understands that WhatsApp does co-operate with law enforcement agencies to provide metadata that it does hold. The metadata includes the name of an account, when it was created, the last seen date, the IP address, and the associated email address.

WhatsApp does say that “We are prepared to carefully review, validate and respond to law enforcement requests based on applicable law and policy”. The company maintains that it can’t provide law enforcement the data that it doesn’t collect to begin with, such as the contents of messages.

UK intelligence officials are reportedly of the view that a compromise could be possible and the intelligence community remains firm in its aspiration to obtain unencrypted content of messages under a proper warrant.

However, companies like WhatsApp have been opposed to building backdoors as they say it will weaken security for everyone. A compromise seems unlikely when both parties are unwilling to budge from their positions.

Blizzard’s Overwatch League Launches In January

Blizzard has spent nearly a year developing an e-sports league for its Overwatch game and it has finally confirmed when the Overwatch league is going to be launched. The debut season is going to kick off in January next year. The season will last until June so there’s going to be plenty of action for Overwatch fans to follow up on.

The Overwatch league was first announced by Blizzard in November last year. It aims to emulate traditional pro sports leagues by launching city-based teams. Players will be offered contracts with guaranteed salaries, health insurance, and even retirement plans.

Blizzard confirmed today the final three teams that will be hopping onboard. The three teams include one in Dallas, Houston, and Philadelphia each. The Philadelphia team is owned by the same group that’s behind the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.

The Dallas and Houston teams are operated by well-known e-sports groups Team Envy and OpTic Gaming, respectively. The total number of teams in this league is now up to 12.

Blizzard today confirmed that the Overwatch league’s debut season is going to kick off on January 10th, 2018. The season is going to last until June.

Playoffs are scheduled for July. There will be a series of pre-season exhibition matches that will start on December 6th to give teams an early start.

New Terminator Movie With Linda Hamilton Confirmed

Arnold Schwarzenegger has starred in many movies but Terminator will likely be considered his most iconic role. Years after leaving the franchise, it has been confirmed that he will be returning as the robot from the future. That’s not all. It has also been confirmed that Linda Hamilton is returning to the Terminator franchise after bidding farewell more than 25 years ago.

James Cameron is producing the new Terminator movie. It’s the first time he’s been involved in a Terminator movie since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Tim Miller of Deadpool fame will be in the director’s chair for this one.

Cameron confirmed at a private event that Linda Hamilton is returning to the Terminator franchise. She will be starring in the sixth movie. The movie itself is based on a story created by Cameron.

The original creative team is back for the sixth iteration in the Terminator franchise and fans will certainly be excited to see what they will come up with. No major details about the story have been revealed as yet but Cameron and Miller are reportedly treating it as a direct sequel to Cameron’s Judgment Day.

“We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it,” Cameron said.

So Schwarzenegger’s back as the Terminator then. Well, he did say he’ll be back.

Get A Free iPhone 8 In Verizon’s AR Snapchat Scavenger Hunt

The iPhone 8 was finally unveiled earlier this month and countless people are waiting to get their hands on it. While they’ll pay good money for their new iPhone, Verizon is giving you the chance to get your hands on a new iPhone 8. All you have to do is participate in its augmented reality Snapchat scavenger hunt. That’s easier said than done, though.

Verizon has a total of 256 iPhone 8 units to give away as prizes in this scavenger hunt that’s live in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Denver, and Atlanta. Right off the bat, if you’re not based in these locations and can’t travel to them, you’re out of luck.

Those who want to participate in this scavenger hunt have to scan a Snapcode that provides them with the instructions before revealing the first clue. The app then taps into the user’s location to tell them how far away they are from the prize and what they need to do in order to get there.

Those who participate in this scavenger hunt will have to follow clues throughout the city and once they get done with the final clue, they will unlock a Snapchat iPhone 8 lens.

They have to take a selfie with that lens and send it to Verizon. The company will sort through the selfies and pick the winners. “The more creative you get, the better your chances,” it says.

The scavenger hunt is live until September 22nd.
