Renders Of Google’s New Daydream View Headset Leaked

While Google’s upcoming October 4th event is obviously going to be focused around its new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL handsets (whose renders just got leaked), the event is also said to introduce some updates to other Google products, one of which is the Google Daydream View virtual reality (VR) headset.

In a post published on Droid-Life, it seems that they managed to get their hands on new renders that are supposedly that of the new Daydream View headset. However it seems that in terms of design, the new View headsets don’t appear to be too different from its predecessor, save for maybe a change in the textiles used to cover the headset, and some new color options.

Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but Droid-Life claims that the new View headset will cost more than its predecessor at $99, which is $20 more expensive than before. It will also be retaining the remote, so presumably the hike in price has to do with an upgrade in its internals, right? Otherwise we’re not sure how Google could justify the price increase.

In any case we guess we will find out in the next couple of weeks as to what the new View headsets will be bringing to the table, save for new color options, so check back with us then for the details.

Google Home Mini Leaked, Rumored To Cost $49

The Google Home was Google’s first foray into smart speakers where it seemed that they were looking to compete with the likes of the Amazon Echo lineup of devices. However unlike the Echo series of devices, Google Home was only offered in one size and one option, although recent rumors have indicated that a smaller version could be in the works.

It turns out that the rumors could be true after all because in a post by Droid-Life, they have shared renders of what appears to be the Google Home Mini on their website. As the name implies, this will be a smaller version of the Google Home and we guess would compete against devices like the Amazon Echo Dot.

The speakers will come in three color options: Chalk, Charcoal, and Coral. It does not appear to be wireless speakers as the renders show a cord attached to them. Other than the smaller size, it will presumably offer up the same capabilities of the Google Home, just in a smaller package for those who might prefer a smaller footprint in their home.

As for pricing, Droid-Life claims that the Google Home Mini will retail for a very affordable $49. In any case details of the Google Home Mini should be announced alongside Google’s new Pixel phones on the 4th of October, so remember to check back with us then for the official details.

Google’s ‘Pixelbook’ Laptop With Pixelbook Pen Stylus Leaked

It has been a few years since Google launched their Chromebook Pixel laptops and according to a rumor from last year, the Chromebook Pixel 2 was reportedly cancelled. It turns out the rumors were partially right because while the Chromebook Pixel 2 might be dead, Google isn’t quite done with its own Chromebook laptops yet.

A recent report from Droid-Life has revealed that Google has a new Chromebook that they will be announcing and it will come in the form of the Google Pixelbook. Unfortunately the specs and details of the laptop are still unknown at this point in time, but Droid-Life’s report claims that the laptop will be offered in a silver finish and will come in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB SSD storage options, with the 128GB model priced at $1,199, $1,399 for the 256GB model, and $1,749 for the 512GB model.

The laptops are also said to be further augmented in terms of functionality thanks to the Pixelbook Pen, which is an accessory sold separately for $99 that we guess is a stylus that can be used with the laptop. It is said to be pressure sensitive and offers no lag, but we’ll probably have to test that for ourselves before we can say for sure, but it could be a huge deal if it was true.

This is actually not the first time we heard that Google could have a new Chromebook in the works, but whether or not this laptop is powered by Chrome OS or the new “Andromeda” platform is unclear, but those details should be revealed on the 4th of October.

Tim Cook Says The iPhone X’s $999 Price Tag Is Value For Money

Apple’s iPhone X is the company’s most expensive base iPhone model to date. Starting at $999 for the 64GB model, the iPhone X’s price tag also easily makes it one of the most expensive smartphones in the market today (not including those diamond-crusted, leather-clad smartphones).

However in a recent interview with Good Morning America, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook expressed his opinion that the $999 iPhone X actually has a “value price”. When asked by host Robin Roberts if the price of the iPhone X was too high for most people, Cook responded by saying, “Well, it’s a value price actually for the technology that you’re getting.”

He also suggests that with most customers purchasing the phone via plans and monthly installments, the impact isn’t felt quite as much. “As it turns out, most people are paying for phones over long periods of time. And so, very few people will pay the full price of the phone initially. Also, most people actually trade in their current phone, and some carriers throw in subsidies and discounts.”

Recently Cook was quoted as saying in another interview that Apple does not make products for the rich, but it’s hard to ignore that $999 is indeed a price that is very dear to many, even when repaid over the course of 12 or 24 months. In the meantime a report from The Wall Street Journal has indicated that the iPhone X appears to cost more than double in terms of components compared to the iPhone 7, which could also justify the increase in price.
