Apple’s iPhone X Could Be Hurting Its iPhone 8 Sales

Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be released soon, while the iPhone X is only expected to be released in November. However it seems that despite the time gap that is said to allow Apple to prevent the iPhone X from distracting potential iPhone 8 customers, it doesn’t seem to be too effective.

A recent report from Gene Munster’s Loup Ventures (via 9to5Mac) has noted that the iPhone X could already be hurting the iPhone 8’s sales despite the fact that it has yet to be released. This is based on the estimated shipping times for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which despite going live last week appears to be remaining the same the following week at an estimated 1-2 weeks shipping time.

Based on previous iPhone releases, the longer one waits to pre-order an iPhone, the longer the shipping times will slip due to overwhelming demand. For the shipping times to remain the same suggests that maybe demand for the new iPhones might not be as big as Apple had anticipated, and that many could instead be holding out for the iPhone X.

Alternatively it could simply mean that Apple has gotten a better handle on inventory and are producing more units than before to meet the demand for the new iPhones. We will have to wait for the official numbers to be released to see if there really is a correlation between the releases. In the meantime analysts are predicting that the iPhone X could be severely constrained well into the first half of 2018.

New Tomb Raider Movie Poster And Teaser Released

It has been a while since we last saw a Tomb Raider movie, and given that the franchise was recently rebooted to feature a more gritty Lara Croft, it made sense that the movies would be rebooted as well. The reboot was announced last year and it looks like the official poster and teaser for the upcoming film has since been released.

The poster gives us another look at actress Alicia Vikander who will be starring in the lead role (which was previously suggested to be Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley), where just like the more recent Tomb Raider games, Lara Croft is certainly looking a bit more beat up and “gritty”. The movie will be directed by Roar Uthaug and marks the first Tomb Raider movie in about 15 years.

The official trailer is expected to be released on the 19th of September, which is tomorrow, so that’s something to look forward to. It will be interesting to see how the Tomb Raider movie will turn out, especially since in the past movies based on video games haven’t exactly been considered top performers.

In any case the movie is expected to be released on the 16th of March, 2018 which is less than a year away, so here’s hoping that the new movie reboot will do the rebooted video game franchise justice.

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III Rumored For Mid-October

When it comes to compact cameras, Canon’s PowerShot G-series is one that is favored by many photographers, even professionals who might just want a compact camera to take with them on a holiday as opposed to their bulky DSLRs, so you can imagine that many are curious to see what the future of the series holds.

Now just last month, there were rumors that the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III could be announced “soon”, and a new report from Canon Rumors has suggested that soon could be early as next month. They have heard that the announcement could be taking place mid-October and we are looking at either an announcement on a Tuesday or Friday as per Canon’s previous announcements.

Of course this is a rumor so do take it with a grain of salt, but if a new compact camera is something you’ve been eyein then this could be worth waiting for. As for the specs of the PowerShot G1 X Mark III, word has it that the camera will feature a 24MP APS-C sensor, dual pixel AF, a DIGIC 7 image processor, and will come with a 24-120mm lens, which will make this a camera ideal for people who love zoom photography.

In any case we should find out soon enough so do check back with us in the coming weeks for the details, if there are any to be had.

Apple’s New File System Won’t Work WIth Fusion Drives

Earlier this year with iOS 10.3, Apple introduced a new file system called APFS to its iOS platform. This new file system was also expected to find its way to the company’s Mac computers in the macOS High Sierra update, which it still will, but unfortunately it seems that Mac owners who own computers with Fusion Drives won’t be able to take advantage of it.

Apple has confirmed that only Mac computers with all-flash drives will be able to use the new file system. It is strange considering that the public beta of macOS High Sierra did support the Fusion Drives, but for some reason it was later removed and not reimplemented, and this confirms that it will not be arriving just yet.

However as MacRumors points out, the wording on Apple’s website suggests that it could come at a later date, where the company said that APFS will not be supported on Fusion Drives  “in the initial release of macOS High Sierra.” This is by no means a guarantee so if you do own a Mac computer with Fusion Drive, maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.

In the meantime for those who took part in the beta program and need to convert back to HFS+, Apple has posted instructions on how to do so. macOS High Sierra has recently been confirmed for a release on the 25th of September.
