iPhone 8, iPhone X Benchmarks Are Outperforming The Competition

There are jokes making their rounds on the internet about how the newly announced iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X are sporting features and hardware that as far as Android handsets are concerned, are considered “old”. However it seems that despite the new iPhones featuring “old” hardware, Apple could still be having the last laugh.

According to recent Geekbench benchmark listings, it seems that Apple’s new A11 Bionic chipset is blowing the competition out of the water. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have managed to score 4,195 and 4,126 points for single-core performance, while the iPhone X scored 4,028 points for single-core performance. When compared to the competition, it seems that no one has come close.

The Geekbench listings for the top phones today, like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have scored 1,965 and 1,934 respectively for single-core performance, which isn’t even half of that of the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Looking at multi-core performances, once again the competition doesn’t appear to come close, with the Galaxy S8 leading the Android pack with a score of 6,494 points, while the iPhone 8 scored a whopping 10,005 points.

That being said, benchmark scores don’t really mean much when it comes to actual usage of the phone. Granted it does indicate performance levels, but at the end of the day there are other factors to consider, like operating system, features of the phone, and of course personal preference. With the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus performing very impressively in terms of sales, it’s hard to deny its popularity, but if we’re just talking about numbers, it is clear that Apple’s A11 Bionic chipset is doing a fantastic job.

Red Sox may have used a Fitbit, not an Apple Watch, to snag Yankees signs

In a major upset for Apple’s smartwatch brand, it appears that it was a Fitbit, not an Apple Watch, that the Red Sox used as a medium for their sign-stealing in a recent ball game. The news comes from “a major league source” speaking to Boston Globe sports reporter Nick Cafardo. It’s unclear at this time whether the source himself or herself is major league or if they… Read More

Researchers Develop An Injection That Can Deliver Multiple Vaccines

It is safe to say that no one really relishes the idea of getting injections, even as adults, so it is understandable why children typically kick up a huge fuss when it’s time for their vaccinations. This usually involves several trips to the doctors over a period of time, which means multiple struggles for parents and basically everyone involved.

However it seems that researchers at MIT have come up with a way to include multiple vaccinations within a single injection. This means that in the future, kids will only have to endure a single injection but at the same time ultimately reap the benefit of multiple vaccines. How is this possible? Essentially each dose of the vaccine will be released at a specific time, and this is achieved through the use of PLGA which is a biocompatible polymer that is found in implants and prosthetics.

The PLGA will be used to create microparticles that resemble tiny coffee cups and have also  been designed to degrade at specific times, meaning that while the vaccines will be delivered into the body at the same time, some might only be released at a later date, like when the child is slightly older.

According to Robert Langer, the David H. Koch Institute Professor at MIT, “We are very excited about this work because, for the first time, we can create a library of tiny, encased vaccine particles, each programmed to release at a precise, predictable time, so that people could potentially receive a single injection that, in effect, would have multiple boosters already built into it. This could have a significant impact on patients everywhere, especially in the developing world where patient compliance is particularly poor.”

Google Announces ‘Tez’, A Mobile Payments App For India

When it comes to mobile payments services, Google already has Android Pay which relies on smartphones sporting NFC technology to help facilitate payments. However over in India, Google has decided to launch a different mobile payments platform called Tez that will work on Android and iOS, and will also do away with the need for NFC.

This is done through the use of Audio QR, which relies on ultrasonic sounds to make the transfer of money, which like we said does away with the need for phones to sport NFC technology. Users will be able to link their phones to their bank accounts, and use the platform to make purchases online, in physical st ores, and also perform person-to-person money exchanges.

According to Google, “With Tez, you can pay directly from your bank account, which means your money is safe with your bank and you’ll continue to earn interest. There’s no need to open a separate account or worry about reloading wallets. Tez uses UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and works with all major banks, including our partners: Axis, HDFC Bank, ICICI and State Bank of India.”

While the service seems to be initially planned for the Indian market, TechCrunch notes that the name has been trademarked in other countries in Asia, such as Indonesia and the Philippines, so there is a chance that it could eventually expand to those markets as well at a later date.

Samsung Now Allowing Users To Disable The Bixby Key

With the launch of the Bixby digital assistant, it also saw Samsung add new hardware buttons to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 handsets. The idea behind the new hardware buttons is that it lets users press it to launch Bixby instantly, and basically acts as a shortcut. However not everyone was on board with the idea.

It wasn’t long before apps were launched that allowed users to remap the button to do something else, but Samsung was quick to block such apps. However the good news is that Samsung appears to have relented somewhat. According to reports, it seems that users now have the option of disabling the Bixby button if they’d rather not use it.

This should help solve a lot of issues with users who might accidentally press the button while doing something else and launching Bixby. The latest update released by Samsung will add a new toggle button that lets users decide if they want Bixby to be launched when the button is pressed.

Samsung is still not allowing users to officially remap the button just yet, but like we said if you’re tired and annoyed of accidentally launching Bixby by pressing the button when you didn’t intend to, then this update could be worth checking out.
