Motorola Says Moto G4 Plus Will Receive Android 8.0 Oreo Update

Last year when the Moto G4 Plus was announced, one of the ways that Motorola advertised the handset was that it would be eligible to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. However when Motorola announced the list of handsets that would receive the update, the Moto G4 Plus was not mentioned.

This led to quite a bit of outrage since it was clearly advertised that the handset would receive the update, and now it seems like Motorola is saying that it won’t. However the good news for Moto G4 Plus owners is that Motorola is claiming that this was a mistake, and that the phone would be eligible to receive the update (only the G4 Plus, the regular G4 doesn’t seem to be included).

According to the company, “It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O.”

However Motorola adds that because this was unplanned, it could arrive later than the other updates. “Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule,” but we suppose better late than never.

Addresses & Numbers In Gmail & Inbox Will Be Clickable Links

When you sent links in emails, generally they are clickable when you receive them. However in the case of addresses, phone numbers, or contacts, that might differ from email service provider to the app that you are using. Now if you are a Gmail or Inbox user, you’ll be pleased to learn that Google is changing that.

In a post on the G Suite Updates blog, Google has announced that they’ll be making addresses, numbers, and contact information in emails received on either platforms clickable. What this means is that for example if someone were to send you an address, you can just click that address to open it in an app such as Google Maps. This will save users time from having to copy and paste the address.

The same will be applied to phone numbers and emails, where phone numbers will prompt you whether you want to make a call to that number (if you were to click it on your phone), while clicking an email address will compose a new email using the user’s default email client. According to Google, these changes will be rolled out over the course of the next few days, so you should expect it pretty soon.

US Navy uses Xbox 360 controllers for its most advanced submarines

The lowly Xbox 360 controller: it is more than a decade old, no longer the primary Xbox gamepad, and it also happens to be the US Navy’s top choice for controlling its most advanced submarines. Not the entire submarine, mind, but rather its various periscopes that exist as a pair of giant masts. High-res cameras are fitted to these periscopes, … Continue reading
