Nokia 8 Oreo Update Being Tested
Posted in: Today's Chili
HMD Global released the Nokia 8 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat last month. It’s no secret that the handset is compatible with Android 8.0 Oreo and will receive the update in the future. It may arrive sooner rather than later. It has been confirmed that HMD Global is now testing the Nokia 8 Oreo update.
The confirmation came from HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas on Twitter. He tweeted that the folks at Nokia Mobile are working on the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Nokia 8. He added that the firmware update will be released “when perfect.”
He also shared images of a beta version of Oreo for the Nokia 8. The update size is mentioned as 1.3GB but that may or may not be the size of the final build as it’s not uncommon for more additions to be made to beta firmware before it’s finalized.
When asked about the other handsets in the Nokia lineup that will receive the Oreo update, Sarvikas also confirmed that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 will be updated to Oreo as well. However, he did not confirm whether the firmware update was being tested currently for those handsets as well.
Many Nokia fans have asked if HMD Global has any plans of launching an Android beta program for Oreo on its devices. There hasn’t been a definitive word from the company about one as yet but it hasn’t been ruled out so far.

Apple is going to roll out iOS 11 tomorrow for compatible devices. However, not all features will be making it to consumer devices tomorrow. Apple has revealed that the Apple Pay Cash feature is not going to be available when iOS 11 rolls out tomorrow. It’s going to arrive later in the year with an additional update that will be released at an as yet unannounced date.
Apple Pay Cash allows for person to person money transfers. It will enable users to send and receive money from friends and family quickly with ease and security.
Apple Pay Cash payments are made through a dedicated iMessages app in iOS 11. It’s also linked with Siri so users can tell Siri to pay someone using the credit and debit cards that they have configured in the Wallet.
When users get paid, they will receive the money in their new Apple Pay Cash card in Apple Wallet. They will be able to utilize the money instantly after it lands in their accounts.
The cash card can then be used to make purchases via Apple Pay in apps, stores, and the web. The funds can also be transferred to the user’s bank account.
Apple confirmed today that the Apple Pay Cash feature will be coming this fall with an update to iOS 11 and watchOS 4.

China’s Bitcoin Crackdown Continues
Posted in: Today's Chili
China isn’t taking too kindly to digital currency. Weeks after banning the controversial initial coin offerings after classifying them as illegal means of funding, it’s continuing its crackdown on the most popular digital currency out there. According to reports, China is going to enforce a “comprehensive” ban on bitcoin trading exchanges.
The country has already been cracking down on big commercial bitcoin trading exchanges. The Wall Street Journal hears from sources that China is now going to go forward with a comprehensive ban on smaller bitcoin trading channels.
These include over-the-counter platforms that enable buyers and sellers to find each other. It’s not clear at this point in time whether this ban will extend to peer-to-peer trades through messaging apps.
Nothing has been officially announced as yet but there are concerns that the country may also look to block access to foreign bitcoin trading exchanges. However, it’s not going to surprise anyone if the country does decide to go through with this.
The reports about China’s aversion to bitcoin has caused the digital currency’s price to take a hit. Many users have now been searching for alternatives as the uncertain situation worries bitcoin traders.
One thing is for sure though, it seems like it’s going to get tougher for bitcoin traders in China to carry on business as usual.
