Bing Fact Check Labels Now Visible In Search Results

To combat the surge in fake news, Google started adding fact check findings to search and news results earlier this year. It started working with fact checking organizations like PolitiFact and Snopes for this purpose. Bing is now doing something similar. Microsoft’s search engine will now display a fact check label in search results to help users find fact checking information on news and webpages within search results.

Bing explains that the fact check label may be used on both news articles and webpages that Bing has determined contain fact check information. It’s also working with fact checking organizations like PolitiFact, Snopes, and others to surface the relevant fact checking information.

This provides users with additional information that they can use to decide for themselves whether or not the information contained in that news story or webpage is accurate.

This label will be used on a broad category of queries ranging from health, news, science, and politics. Bing says that it may apply this label to any page that has schema.org ClaimReveiw markup included on the page.

Bing determines whether an article contains fact checks or not by looking for the schema.org ClaimReview markup. It also looks for sites that follow the commonly accepted criteria for fact checks.

LTE Apple Watch Will Only Work In The Country Of Purchase

With the launch of the LTE Apple Watch Series 3, Apple has finally managed to untether Apple Watch owners from their iPhones. It means that if you don’t want to bring your iPhone everywhere you go, this is an option to remain connected. Unfortunately if you plan on traveling with it, note that you might still need your iPhone (and a local SIM).

According to MacRumors, one of their readers confirmed with an Apple support rep who told him that the LTE Apple Watch will only work in its country of purchase. This means that if you were thinking of buying the LTE model overseas and claim a tax refund when leaving, you could still do that, except that the watch will lose its LTE functionality when you get back to your home country.

The rep was quoted as saying, “If you purchased one (an Apple Watch S3 GPS + Cellular) through the US Apple Online Store, it’ll only work for the 4 US carriers. It wouldn’t work internationally unfortunately. I’m not entirely sure what type of error it would show if you took a US Watch to Germany, but it wouldn’t be compatible with Telekom.”

So if you were hoping to roam with the Apple Watch Series 3, that’s pretty much out of the question as well. However if you don’t mind pairing it with your iPhone, then you should be able to use it in another country as long as your iPhone has an internet connection, so that’s something to take note of if you plan on buying it.

Game Of Thrones Animated Short Tells The History Of The Seven Kingdoms

Season 8 of HBO’s Game of Thrones is only expected to arrive in 2019, which means that fans of the series will have quite a bit of waiting to do until then. We suppose one could always go and read the books (if you haven’t done so already), or alternatively you could check out the series of animated shorts that HBO will be releasing.

The network has recently released the first chapter in a series of animated shorts based around Game of Thrones. Dubbed Game of Thrones Conquest & Rebellion, this series of shorts is expected to provide viewers with a history of the Seven Kingdoms and how certain things and events came to be. The first chapter has been released on YouTube for free, but the rest you will have to pay for.

The rest of the shorts will be released as a bonus gift alongside the Game of Thrones Season 7 Blu-ray, meaning that you’ll have to purchase the Blu-ray if you want to watch the rest of it. It should also be noted that the various actors/actresses in Game of Thrones will take turns narrating the story in the shorts, with the first chapter being narrated by Harry Lloyd, who for those unfamiliar played (the late) Viserys Targaryen.

That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised if this series will get pirated and uploaded online. After all Season 7 was said to have been pirated as many as 1 billion times, so why wouldn’t this miniseries be pirated either, right?

Google Chrome Will Block Autoplay Videos Starting In 2018

It used to be that if you wanted to play a video, you’d have to click it to play it. However these days there seems to be a trend in which quite a few websites will play videos the minute it loads the page, meaning that if you have multiple tabs open, or if you have headphones on, you might be rudely greeted with video suddenly playing out of nowhere.

However the good news for Chrome users is that Google will soon bake autoplay blocking into the browser itself, meaning that you won’t have to rely on third-party extensions. This is according to a recent post on Google’s blog in which Google will block videos from playing automatically, although there are some caveats.

According to Google, “Starting in Chrome 64, autoplay will be allowed when either the media won’t play sound, or the user has indicated an interest in the media. This will allow autoplay to occur when users want media to play, and respect users’ wishes when they don’t. These changes will also unify desktop and mobile web behavior, making web media development more predictable across platforms and browsers.”

However this doesn’t mean that Google wants to kill autoplay completely. According to the guidelines, Google encourages developers to consider muting autoplay videos so as not to annoy visitors, and that they should use the browser’s native controls video controlling playback.

BMW Says That Car Keys Could Eventually Be Replaced By Mobile Apps

Our car keys over the years have evolved where these days there are cars that can start in non-traditional ways, such as using a car, pressing a button, and so on. However could it be that eventually we might get to a point where we could start our cars using nothing but a mobile app? That’s what BMW thinks the future could look like.

Speaking to Reuters, BMW board member Ian Robertson said in an interview at the Frankfurt car show that one day the future of car keys could simply be a mobile app. Robertson was citing the ubiquity of smartphones and how it is with everyone at all times. “Honestly, how many people really need it. They never take it out of their pocket, so why do I need to carry it around?”

He goes on to add that BMW is currently looking into the idea and whether or not it is feasible. “We are looking at whether it is feasible, and whether we can do it. Whether we do it right now or at some point in the future, remains to be seen.” While we do agree that smartphones are on our person at all times and it makes sense that one might use it to replace the traditional pen and paper to take notes and make lists, turning it into a car key might raise some problems.

For example what if you lose your phone? What if it gets stolen? Or what if your battery dies, how do you get into your car then? At the moment carmakers such as Hyundai are experimenting with similar concepts, like with its Blue Link app where users can control their cars remotely.

The iPhone X Could Be Difficult To Get Even In 2018

Even ahead of the iPhone X being officially announced, there were rumors saying that the handset could face a delay and supply constraints. In fact according to Apple, the iPhone X will not be shipped alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and will instead be released this November, about two months after the iPhone 8’s release.

This seems to be more or less in line with the earlier rumors, but here’s some additional bad news. If you were thinking of getting your hands on the phone, you’ll want to move quickly because it seems that even in 2018, the iPhone X could be difficult to get ahold of. This is according to a research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that was recently obtained by MacRumors.

According to the research note, Kuo says that demand for the iPhone X won’t be fully met at least until the first half of 2018. “We believe the fullscreen design and facial recognition features will drive replacement demand for the iPhone X. However, due to supply constraints, we expect market demand won’t be fully met before 1H18.”

This means that if you don’t pre-order the iPhone X promptly, then good luck trying to find one next year. We’re not sure how this will work out for Apple since it could affect revenue, not to mention there will probably be some customers who would rather hold out and wait for 2018’s refresh than the iPhone X, but we guess only time will tell.
