Over 35 years since Blade Runner came out, its sequel is almost upon us. Blade Runner: 2049 hits theaters in less than a month. And (depending on who you ask) it’s either been too long a wait, or it should never have seen the light of day. For anyone…

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Apple held a keynote at its glass-empaneled new “spaceship” campus this week, during which it announced a boatload of stuff. So much stuff, in fact, that my colleague Chris Velazco and I devoted a…
As you might have heard, Bethesda recently announced that they will be bringing the 2016 DOOM reboot onto the Nintendo Switch. This is a pretty huge deal and we’re sure that there will be quite a few Switch gamers who will appreciate the move. However it seems that there will some caveats that gamers might want to take note of.
In a report from Engadget, Bethesda has confirmed to the publication that DOOM for the Switch will come with all the updates and DLCs that have been released for the game to date. However it will not include the SnapMap level editor, although it is unclear why that is, so if making maps/levels is something you enjoy doing, know that the Switch version of the game will not support it.
The report also goes on to confirm that if gamers were to purchase a physical copy of the game that it will only contain the single-player campaign. For those who want to play the multiplayer campaign, you will have to download a free update. This is due to the storage limitations on the physical cartridge that the Switch uses for its games. Obviously this means that if you purchase the digital copy of DOOM that it will contain everything (except the SnapLevel map editor like we mentioned above).
At the moment it is unclear when DOOM will be released for the Switch, but Bethesda is targeting for a release this year, so we’ll just have to keep an eye out for a release date, which hopefully will be shared in the near future.

One of the features of Apple’s new iPhone X is Face ID. This is a facial recognition system that is supposed to be on the next level compared to what’s being offered on the market at the moment, but given that the iPhone X has yet to be released, there are many questions that people have about Face ID that will probably only be answered when the phone is released.
One of those questions is that can someone scan your face while you’re asleep to unlock your phone? After all we’ve seen that happen with Touch ID, and it looks like some unscrupulous sellers are trying to prey on the fears of people and have started to sell full face masks that are supposed to protect you from identity theft while you’re asleep.
These masks have been marketed as “iPhone X anti-identity theft” masks, and from what we can tell they’re just regular face masks that you might wear in the cold. In case you were wondering about this issue, as Apple pointed out on stage, Face ID will only work when users pay attention to their phone, which Apple has defined as you looking directly at it.
This means that unless you sleep with your eyes open, Face ID cannot be bypassed by holding your iPhone up to your sleeping face. While Face ID does sound rather exciting, like we said a lot of questions do remain and there have been some who have expressed their concern over the feature, but we’ll have to wait until November when the iPhone X is released to be able to properly take the feature for a spin.

In Asian culture, taking off your shoes when you enter someone’s home appears to be a rather common practice. In some cultures like Japan, it goes even further as there are instances where you will have to take off your shoes when entering into a restaurant. This means that if you don’t practice good hygiene, there’s a good chance your feet will stink.
However as expected in Japan, they have an answer for that and it comes in the form of a cute robotic puppy. Created by Next Technology, this is a robotic puppy that could pass off as a soft toy, but it comes equipped with odor sensors that will be able to sniff the feet of people and when it detects what it determines to be a bad smell, it will bark.
In fact it will actually temporarily “faint” and roll out if your feet smell particularly bad. It will also release a burst of air freshener which will for the moment alleviate the situation. According to a Next Technology employee Kimika Tsuji, it seems that the robotic puppy was inspired by a request from a man who wanted to know if his feet smelt.
According to Tsuji, “He told us his daughter had said his feet were smelly . . . But he didn’t want to know how bad the odor was because he would feel hurt. That’s why we developed this cute robot.” The robotic puppy is expected to go on sale early next year where it will retail for a whopping ¥100,000.

In a couple of months, Blizzard will be hosting their annual gaming expo BlizzCon in which Blizzard typically announces new games, updates to existing ones, and so on. This year’s BlizzCon is expected to take place from the 3rd-4th of November and if you aren’t able to attend in person, not to worry as the virtual tickets are now on sale.
In case the name wasn’t already obvious, the virtual tickets to BlizzCon allows gamers to “attend” the event virtually. According to Blizzard, “the Virtual Ticket unlocks live access to all the stages at BlizzCon 2017—and in addition to the game updates, developer discussions, and community contests you’ve come to enjoy, you’ll also get access to events featuring community creators, voice actors, and more.”
The virtual ticket is priced at $40 which isn’t exactly cheap, but if you’re a fan of Blizzard’s games and want to learn more about what’s new and what’s changing live, then perhaps its cost can be justified. Also there will be freebies given with the virtual ticket that comes in the form of exclusive in-game items for the various Blizzard games.
For World of Warcraft gamers, this means that they’ll be able to access special mounts like the Stormwind Skychaser (for Alliance) and the Orgrimmar Interceptor (for Horde), and of course there will be content for Overwatch, Hearthstone, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3, and Heroes of the Storm as well. Gamers who are interested can purchase the ticket via Blizzard’s online store.

If you’re a fan of Pokemon or if you’ve yet to hop onto one of Nintendo’s handheld consoles, the company has recently taken the wraps off two new limited edition Pokemon-themed Nintendo 2DS XL handheld consoles. As you can see in the image above, one has been themed to look like a Pokeball, while the other sports Pikachu’s face on the front.
Apart from the new design, the consoles are essentially the same 2DS XL consoles that gamers have come to know, so if you already own a 2DS XL and you’re not really a huge Pokemon fan, then maybe these consoles aren’t worth purchasing. Unfortunately for gamers who wouldn’t mind spending money to get another 2DS XL for the sake of collecting, it seems that for now these limited edition consoles will be limited to the Japanese market.
It is unclear if Nintendo has plans to bring the consoles stateside or to other parts of the world, but as we have seen in the past, Nintendo has no qualms about catering to just the Japanese market, so gamers will have to rely on grey market imports (for now) if they wish to get their hands on these consoles.
However for the North American market, Nintendo will finally be bring the 2DS XL in white and orange come 6th of October. This is following the launch in Europe and Japan in which that particular finish was available since July this year.
