Nintendo Switch Was The Best-Selling Console In The US In August

If you’re a fan of redemption stories, then the Nintendo Switch is a good example of one, at least as far as video game consoles are concerned. Nintendo suffered quite a blow to their reputation and financials with the Wii U, but with the Switch, the company is turning things around.

In fact according to the latest stats published by The NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch was actually the best-selling console in the US for the month of August. However it isn’t only in August that the Switch did well for itself as it was shown that the Switch has managed to be the top console in 4 out of the 6 months since it was released earlier this March.

This is actually a huge change from the Wii U in which many felt that it was a failure, with some even predicting that it could be the start of the end for Nintendo. In addition to being the top-selling console in the US, recent stats have also revealed that the Switch has managed to sell as many as 5 million units worldwide, which once again is a difference of night and day as far as the situation with Wii U is concerned.

Nintendo still has quite a few titles that have yet to be launched, like the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros., and let’s not forget that companies such as Bethesda are bringing titles like DOOM, Wolfenstein II, and Skyrim onto the Switch that will no doubt help to attract new players.

Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Orders In Korea Have Reached 800,000 Units

It seems that despite the huge hoo-ha concerning the exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 handsets back in 2016, it did not damage Samsung’s reputation as much as you might think. In fact if anything, it seems that Samsung’s reputation has remained intact as proven by the number of Galaxy Note 8 handsets that have been pre-ordered in Korea.

According to the latest figures shared by Samsung, it seems that over in Korea alone the Note 8 has managed to hit 800,000 pre-orders so far. This is pretty much double of what was previously reported which was about a week ago, so for Samsung to double the number of pre-orders is indeed very impressive.

As to how this compares to its predecessor, it seems that the Note 7 only managed to draw in 380,000 pre-orders in the first 13-days. It is actually amazing that the Note 8 more than doubled that figure in about half the time, although we guess that there are probably a good many Note 7 customers who might have been part of the Note 8 pre-orders as well, plus the publicity from the exploding phones probably did help as well.

So far reviews of the Note 8 have been largely positive, what with the larger display and the bezel-less design. The Note 8 is currently set for a release on the 21st of September with pre-orders currently being accepted in various parts of the world.

Google Maps Now Supports Video Reviews

As much as Google would love to be able to do everything themselves, it would be impossible, which is why for services like Google Maps, the company has typically relied on their community to help fix any errors and to provide additional information, such as photos and reviews about places.

Now it looks like Google’s Local Guides will be able to do more than just write a review and upload photos. According to reports, Local Guides will be able to upload short 10-second video clips that can act as quick reviews or a quick overview about a particular location. This feature was quietly launched about a couple of weeks ago, but it is expected that it will roll out publicly in the near future.

The feature won’t just be limited to users as owners of the location can also add their own videos to highlight certain products or services. In order to upload or record a video, users will have to launch the Google Maps app on their phone and upload/record the video the same way you would a photo, except that you hold down on the shutter to record the video. However as TechCrunch points out, this seems to be limited to Android for now, but it is possible that it will eventually find its way onto iOS devices as well.

Fallout Shelter Now Has More Than 100 Million Users

When you think of mobile games, there’s a good chance that Bethesda might not have popped in your mind, but if you recall, the company did try their hand at launching a mobile game with Fallout Shelter from 2015. The game turned out to be quite a huge hit and reportedly raked in $5.1 million in its first two weeks.

Fast forward to two years later, it seems that the game is still going on strong because in a blog post on Bethesda’s website, the company has announced that Fallout Shelter has managed to surpass 100 million users to date. Of course whether or not all these users are still playing the game, or how many are playing the game at the same time is unclear, but to rack up that many players in the course of the past couple of years is still an accomplishment.

According to the company, “That’s more than a BILLION Dwellers sent out to explore the Wasteland, scavenging for materials and battling Raiders, Radscorpions, and Ghouls! More than 7.5 billion game sessions have been played for more than 385 million hours. Check out the infographic for even more fun stats about Fallout Shelter’s 100 million users!”

To celebrate the game hitting 100 million users, Bethesda has announced that they will be kicking off a 5-day celebration. This will begin today, the 15th of September, and will see players receive significant daily rewards that is expected to amount to about $10 of in-game loot, which includes Lunchboxes, Nuka-Cola Quantum, and various special items.

Keanu Reeves Will Be Back For ‘John Wick 3’ In 2019

We’re sure that people weren’t really expecting much when the first “John Wick” movie hit the theaters, but it proved to be a smashing success and led to a sequel. For those who felt that this isn’t enough and want more, you’ll be pleased to learn that Keanu Reeves will be returning to his role as the assassin John Wick for the third installment in the franchise.

Confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that fans of the franchise will have to wait until May 17, 2019 which is when John Wick 3 will be released. Plot details and who else is expected to star in the third movie, save for Reeves, is unclear, but we expect additional details will be revealed as we get closer to the movie’s release.

It is also unclear who will be directing the third movie, but screenwriter Derek Kolstad who wrote the first two films will be returning to write the third, so in terms of a plot and storyline, you can expect roughly the same tone. So far the franchise has proven to be a success, with the first movie grossing $88 million, while the sequel managed to gross $171 million globally, so it will be interesting to see how much the third movie will be able to generate in terms of revenue.

In the meantime it looks like there will also be a TV series based on the world of John Wick. It is expected to act as a prequel of sorts and will provide viewers with a bit more back information on how the world of John Wick “works”.
