'Timberscrapers' could soon dominate urban skylines

They just don’t make ’em like the Sakyamuni Pagoda anymore. Built from wood in 1056 in the Shanxi province of China, the building has remained standing to this day despite seven earthquakes rattling the region within its first 50 years of existence….

Amazon’s confusing new Echo lineup: There’s a method to the madness

Amazon’s overstuffed Echo event yesterday made one thing clear: it’s not afraid of doubling down on smart speakers and its virtual assistant Alexa. The company announced a smaller $100 Echo (just as we reported in July); a $150 Echo Plus with smart h…

FCC Chairman wants Apple to enable FM in iPhones for emergencies

You might think of radio as an archaic form of listening to music, but it’s still one of the more effective ways to get information to people, especially when cell networks go down. Most smartphones already have an FM chip baked right into the chipse…

The Hero 6 and 'GP1' is GoPro's chance to grow again

“When I first was listening to our team’s desire to make a chip, I felt a bit of anxiety, like, are we getting a bit ahead of ourselves? This might be beyond what our capabilities are,” Nick Woodman, GoPro founder and CEO, told me in a rare break fro…

Beetlejuice Crazy Face Masks and Eyeball Gloves Make Perfect Halloween Costumes

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice is still one of my favorite movies of all time. It featured a great mix of wacky characters, funny dialogue, clever stop-motion animation, quirky visuals, and lots of weird and creepy stuff too. One of the most memorable moments in the film is when Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alex Baldwin and Geena Davis) practice making crazy faces to scare the Deetz’s out of their house. Their insane faces are permanently emblazoned in my brain though.

So when I saw these Beetlejuice masks for sale, I thought – my wife and I need to dress up in these for Halloween this year. Maybe we can get one of our goth friends to dress as Lydia too.

Both the Adam and Barbara masks are totally gross and weird, though  I always thought the extra set of eyeballs inside of Geena Davis’ mouth were especially disturbing. And did someone say they liked eyeballs? Well Rubie’s Costume Company has you covered there as well:

Yep, those are some ooky looking eyeball gloves to complete the look. If you’re a Beetlejuice fan like me, looks like you’re all set with a ready to go costume this year.

I only wish they made a costume based on Michael Keaton’s terrifying snake head.

Google’s ‘Ultra Pixel’ Handset Seen In Leaked Slides

There are countless reports and rumors about the upcoming Pixel handsets that Google is going to unveil next month. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are going to be the successors to Google’s first-ever Pixel smartphones that were released last year. However, if a new report is to be believed, there might be something entirely new in the pipeline over at Google. Something we haven’t heard about so far.

Arun Maini runs the Mrwhosetheboss channel on YouTube. He claims to have received images and videos from an anonymous source of slides which indicate that Google has another device in the pipeline possibly called “Ultra pixel.” For all we know, it just might be a new moniker for one of the two upcoming Pixel devices.

The source seems to have captured these images from a slide presentation that someone was working on in a Google office. We can see the main slide while a second slide mentions that “The future of Android is Fluid.”

No further information is available at this point in time so it’s unclear what sort of specifications this handset touts and how it will be positioned in Google’s updated Pixel handset lineup.

There are some references to a dual camera system and a new kind of fingerprint sensor but that’s about it. Is it possible that the device has a fingerprint sensor underneath the display? There has been a lot of talk about this technology but it can’t be said for sure right now since all of this could very well be an elaborate fake.

Google has an event lined up for October 4th where it’s going to unveil the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Whether or not it will talk about this device at its event remains to be seen.

Moto X Pure Edition Android 7.0 Nougat Update Finally Released

Motorola has made owners of the Moto X Pure Edition wait for a considerable amount of time for the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The Moto X Pure Edition was released by Motorola back in 2015. While the company previously had a reputation for quickly sending out major firmware updates, that wasn’t the case for this particular handset. Over a year after it was first released by Google, the Android 7.0 Nougat update has finally been released for the Moto X Pure Edition today.

Motorola had a good reputation for being quick with firmware updates for most devices. Some of you might remember that the 2013 Moto X received Android 4.4 KitKat faster than the Nexus 4 did. We saw history repeat itself with the Moto X (2014) when it was updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop ahead of the Nexus 5.

Those who purchased the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition would probably have expected a similar update experience but little did they now that the company would make them wait for over a year to get a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat.

Motorola released the Nougat update for an iteration of this handset back in July. The Moto X Style is what its iteration is called in Brazil. Two months after users in Brazil got the update, the Moto X Pure Edition is finally getting Nougat in the United States.

If you own this handset, you should receive an over-the-air update notification soon, if you haven’t already.
