Apple Music Crosses 30 Million Subscribers

Apple Music continues to cement its position as a leading music streaming service, after Spotify that is. Apple Music now has more than 30 million subscribers, according to a new report. Apple’s music streaming service has picked up 10 million additional subscribers since December last year. Some 3 million joined after Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this year in June.

Apple Music has managed to keep up with Spotify’s growth rate. It gained 15 million subscribers on average per year as compared to 20 million for Spotify over the past two years. Apple will not be able to overtake Spotify at this rate but it will continue to solidify its position as one of the leading music streaming services in the world.

“Just because we’re adding millions of subscribers and the old catalog numbers are going up, that’s not the trick. That’s just not going to hold,” Apple Music boss Jimmy Iovine tells Billboard.

A big part of Apple Music’s growth strategy is to build relationships between artists and fans by providing them with exclusive content such as interviews and documentaries. Apple Music has also been pushing exclusive releases to drive its subscriber growth.

These strategies appear to have worked well for the company so far but it remains to be seen if they will be enough for it to overtake Spotify at some point down the line.

New Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Released By Rockstar

Fans of Red Dead Redemption weren’t happy when Rockstar announced earlier this year that it was delaying Red Dead Redemption 2 to spring next year. However, the company did say that it will showcase more of the over the summer so that fans have an idea of what they can expect from the new addition to the franchise. Rockstar today released a new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer which shares some story elements.

Rockstar announced the sequel to the 2010 title back in October last year. The game was confirmed with a trailer after it was teased on social media for a couple of weeks.

Just like its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western drama with no shortage of grit. The new trailer gives us an idea of what to expect from the story.

“The story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight, and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive,” is how Rockstar describes the narrative of this game.

Rockstar was originally supposed to release Red Dead Redemption 2 in the fall this year, however, the title has now been delayed to the spring of next year. It will be released for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

ZTE Axon M Foldable Smartphone Pictures Leaked

It was reported yesterday that ZTE might beat Samsung to the market with its foldable smartphone. Today, purported images of this foldable smartphone from ZTE have been leaked online. The specifications of this device have been previously rumored. ZTE is expected to launch this handset at an event in New York City next month.

Previous reports have suggested that the Axon M’s frame will be just under 10mm thick when folded. It’s believed to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Additional specifications might include a 20 megapixel rear camera and a 3,120mAh battery.

As far as the displays are concerned, the handset is said to feature dual 1080p displays that can be folded out into a 6.8 inch 1920×2160 panel. The report notes that the Axon M is going to function like a conventional smartphone when it hasn’t been folded out.

When it is folded out, each display will be able to display its own app which is going to add an interesting new dimension to multitasking on a mobile device. ZTE hasn’t confirmed anything about this handset so far.

However, reports suggest that it’s going to be launched exclusively for AT&T at an event next month. It’s expected to cost $650. ZTE is due to conduct an event in NYC on October 17 so it’s likely what we might hear more about this handset from the company at that event.

NVIDIA Shield TV Gets Google Assistant

NVIDIA is rolling out a new firmware update today for its Shield TV set-top box. It has released version 6.0 of the software for this device. One of the new features is Google Assistant. Google’s artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant can now be accessed on NVIDIA’s set-top box.

With this software update, the NVIDIA Shield TV is now the first Android TV-powered device to offer the full Google Assistant experience. It’s not going to be the only one, though. Google has said that Sony Bravia TVs that ship with Android TV will also receive the full Google Assistant experience in the coming months.

Google Assistant on the NVIDIA Shield will enable users to control media playback hands-free with just voice commands. Additional features include smart home control and the ability to search by voice commands.

Its different from the Google Voice Search feature that was previously available on the set-top box. Google Assistant on the Shield TV has a new visual design and is capable of doing much more than what Voice Search could.

Apart from some features like alarms, timers, and phone calls, Google Assistant on the NVIDIA Shield can do pretty much everything that it can on Google Home. It can also cast audio to the Google Home or other Google Cast speakers and can be used to control media playback.

Google Assistant also has app integrations so it can be used to pull up content from apps like Netflix. Shield TV set-top box owners can bring up Google Assistant via the gaming controller and it’s integrated microphone. The “Hey Google” and “OK Google” work as well.

NVIDIA is rolling out software update version 6.0 for the Shield TV set-top box today. All new and existing owners of this device will receive three months of YouTube Red for free with this update.
