Miniature Foosball Table Is Perfect for Dollhouse Dive Bars

Do you love to play foosball, but don’t have room in your house for a full-size table? Then check out this teensy version of the popular pub game that’s small enough to fit on a bookshelf or your desktop.

This handcrafted mini foosball table comes from Victoria, Canada’s miniLAND, and is spot-on accurate to the real deal. From the tiny, faceless athletes, to the abacus style scoring boards at the goals, it’s an impressive little model. While it’s clearly designed as dollhouse furniture, this is a cool desk accessory for any foosball fan. The only thing that isn’t clear is if it’s actually playable. One reviewer mentioned that the “soccer players move around a bit” so that gives me hope. You’ll just need to figure out something to use as a ball. I’m thinking a ball bearing would do the trick nicely.

You can get your hands on the mini foosball table over at miniLAND’s Etsy shop for $76.95(USD). If you find that it’s too small to be playable, there’s always this version.

Facebook Testing Instant Video Feature For Android

Facebook’s Instant Articles are actually a pretty nifty feature and it does cut down a lot of loading time, especially when you’re on the go and you don’t want to waste precious seconds (or even a minute) waiting for an article to load. Now it looks like Facebook is trying to replicate that except with video.

In a report from TechCrunch, it seems that Facebook is testing out an Instant Video feature on its Android app for select users. The feature was initially discovered by user Devesh Logendran who shared the tip with The Next Web’s Matt Navarra. Just like Instant Articles, videos that are part of the Instant Video feature will have a lightning bolt icon next to it.

Basically what happens here is that videos will be preloaded when you’re connected to WiFi, so that when you want to watch them, you won’t have to wait for them to load, or if you’re using mobile data then you won’t need to consume your mobile data in order to watch them, which could come in handy for users in markets where data is limited or for users who aren’t on unlimited plans.

Given that Facebook is interested in expanding their video efforts, this feature could also be a good way for the social network to attract publishers and networks to start offering more video content on its platform. Facebook has since confirmed that they are indeed testing out the feature, but it is unclear when it will be launched for everyone else.

Apple Wants To See If The Apple Watch Can Detect Abnormal Heart Rhythms

Even before the Apple Watch was officially launched, the rumors about the watch was that Apple was going to position it to be a health device, which we guess it kind of is thanks to features like its optical heart rate sensor that can be used to measure the wearer’s heart rate, which will come in handy during exercise.

However it seems that Apple wants to take things further and in a report from CNBC (via MacRumors), the Cupertino company is said to be working with researchers at Stanford and telemedicine vendor American Well to determine whether or not the heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch could actually be used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and other heart conditions.

For example atrial fibrillation could be one of the things the sensor could potentially help detect, and according to Bob Wachter, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, “Atrial fibrillation is a common rhythm disorder and knowing someone has it is medically useful because those people might need specific treatments.”

This is actually not the first time that this has been looked into. A report from earlier this year revealed that researchers at the University of California found that the Apple Watch was capable of such detection. In fact we have also heard reports of how wearables with heart rate sensors have inadvertently notified their users of an impending heart attack, but we guess Apple’s interest is in trying to make it more accurate, as opposed to it being a lucky find.

Apple’s CEO Claims Their Products Aren’t Made For The Rich

Whenever brands such as Xiaomi come to mind, you might associate the company with creating affordable products, like the recently launched Mi Notebook Pro which appears to be a much more affordable version of Apple’s MacBook Pro. However when you mention Apple, chances are you might associate them with premium priced products.

In a way it’s almost as if Apple was catering to the wealthy with its products, like the first-generation Apple Watch Edition which was priced at a whopping $10,000. However that is a notion that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook wants to dispel. In a recent interview with Fortune, Cook told Adam Lashinsky that Apple’s products aren’t made for the rich, or at least not specifically so.

When asked how Apple can say they make products for everyone but yet price them so high, Cook responded by saying, “Well it’s not high margin. I wouldn’t use that word. There’s a lot of companies that have much higher margins. We price for the value of our products. And we try to make the very best products. And that means we don’t make commodity kind of products.”

He goes on to add, “But if you look across our product lines, you can buy an iPad today for under $300. You can buy an iPhone, depending upon which one you select, for in that same kind of ballpark. And so these are not for the rich. We obviously wouldn’t have over a billion products that are in our active installed base if we were making them for the rich because that’s a sizable number no matter who’s looking at the numbers.”

That being said, Apple’s upcoming iPhone X is rumored to cost upwards of $1,000, which is higher than any iPhone has ever cost (at least for the base model), so it remains to be seen exactly how many units they will be able to sell.

Android 8.0 Oreo Disabling Mobile Data For Some Pixel & Nexus Devices

Recently we reported that there have been reports in which some Pixel owners are claiming that following the update to Android 8.0 Oreo, their handsets are still consuming mobile data even with WiFi enabled, which clearly is a far from ideal situation especially for users who do not have unlimited mobile data plans.

Now it seems that ironically enough, the update has caused quite the opposite problem for other Pixel and Nexus owners. According to a post on the Pixel User Committee (via 9to5Google), some Pixel and Nexus owners are reporting that the update has actually ended up disabling mobile data for them.

This appears to be a bug of a so-called safety feature of the Oreo update, where the feature will actually block all mobile data on devices once the user has hit the data cap put in place by the carrier. The idea is that it will help to prevent overages for users, especially if they might be roaming.

The report claims that the feature is blocking all data without discrimination, despite the fact that some apps’ data being prorated by carriers, such as apps installed by carriers or communication apps like WhatsApp. The good news is that a Pixel Community Manager has since responded to the complaints by saying that Google is aware of the problem and are looking to fix it. For those who do not have a data cap, then your devices should not be affected by it.

Samsung CEO Aiming To Launch A Foldable Smartphone In 2018

We have been hearing rumors that Samsung might have a foldable phone in works, and by that we don’t mean a flip phone that can fold in half, but rather a smartphone with a full touchscreen display that can actually bend/fold at will. It was initially rumored that such a device could be launched in 2017, but it seems that will no longer be the case.

However the good news is that it does not appear we will have to wait too long for it. A report from The Korea Herald has revealed that Samsung’s smartphone with a foldable display will come in 2018, or at least that’s the plan according to the company’s CEO, Koh Dong-jin. According to Koh, the company does have plans for such a device and are aiming to launch it in 2018, assuming that it is ready by then.

Koh claims that there are some technological hurdles in creating such a device, but once that’s overcome they will be making such a device part of their roadmap. “We have a plan to adopt a foldable display in our roadmap. We will launch a foldable device when we are fully ready, and we are aiming to do so next year.”

The idea of a smartphone with a foldable display is a rather interesting one, and  could lead to interesting uses, but whether or not such a device is a novelty, like glasses-free 3D smartphones, or if it could end up a hit like the curved displays on the recently launched Galaxy Note 8 remains to be seen.
