Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Has Been Officially Announced

While companies like Samsung and LG are starting to push out devices with bezel-less displays, let’s not forget that Xiaomi had actually beaten both these companies to the punch with the Xiaomi Mi Mix that was launched back in 2016, and it looks like Xiaomi is back with its successor in the form of the Mi Mix 2.

The Mi Mix 2 will actually sport a smaller display compared to its predecessor, where instead of a 6.4-inch 17:9 display, Xiaomi has opted to give the Mi Mix 2 an 18:9 display with a Full HD+ display. The company is also boasting how the bezels on the bottom of the phone is 12% smaller than before, with the front glass covering the display curved on all sides.

In terms of hardware, we are looking at the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. In terms of RAM, we are looking at a couple of different options, with one option featuring 6GB of RAM and 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of storage capacity, while there will be a “special edition” 8GB RAM model that will pack 128GB of storage, with the main difference being the build in which the special edition will be made from ceramic.

We are also looking at a 12MP rear-facing camera similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi 6 with a 4-axis OIS, while the front-facing camera will be of the 5MP variety. There will also be a 3,400mAh battery and will come with MIUI 9 which will be based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X Rumored To Feature 3GB Of RAM

RAM has always been a marketing feature of Android phones in which Android handset makers typically lorded the amount of RAM their phones pack over that of the iPhone, which has historically been somewhat conservative with their RAM. However could that change with Apple’s 2017 iPhones?

If you were hoping that to be the case, then you might be disappointed to learn that Apple will not be changing things up. In a recent tweet by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, it seems that Apple will be keeping the RAM configuration on its iPhones the same as last year. This means that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X will feature 2GB of RAM and 3GB of RAM respectively.

Like we said, this is similar to last year’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models, where the former had 2GB of RAM and the latter packed 3GB of RAM. Now some might argue that this isn’t “enough” RAM, but we should point out the fact that Apple controls both the hardware and software on its iPhones, meaning that everything will be optimized around the available hardware.

In fact Apple’s iPhones have performed pretty well in speed tests and benchmarks, so why fix something that isn’t broken, right? In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but Apple will reveal all come 12th of September, which is tomorrow, so do check back with us then if you’d like all the official details.

Study Finds Apple Music Is Popular Amongst Gen Z And Millennials

When it comes to music streaming platforms, there are actually quite a lot of choices for users to choose from. However in terms of picking a favorite platform, it seems that one’s age might have a factor to play in that. A recent study conducted by consulting firm Fluent has revealed that Gen Z and Millennials are more likely to choose Apple Music over other services.

For those wondering, Gen Z has been categorized as those aged 18-24, while Millennials are those who are aged 25-34. The study found that those in the Gen Z age group represent a 19% subscription rate for Apple Music, versus the 17% on Spotify. Millennials represent 14% for Apple Music and 9% on Spotify, while those aged 35 or older only represent a 5% subscription rate for either platform.

Fluent’s study also found that the subscription rates for both Apple Music and Spotify are significantly higher than that of the competition. For example the next highest subscription rate for Gen Z would be YouTube Red which is at 10%, while Gen Z only represented 3% of the subscription rate for services like Google Play Music, 5% for iHeartRadio, and 6% for Pandora.

That being said while the study does show which age group might prefer which platform, it’s hard to deny that Spotify is still very much the market leader. The company has recently confirmed that their platform plays home to 60 million paid subscribers, which is higher than Apple Music where last we heard, had about 20 million paid subscribers.

Google Offering Free Pixel Repairs For Hurricane Harvey Victims

Hurricane Harvey certainly left a lot of devastation in its wake, where homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and families were uprooted and displaced. It also meant a lot of personal property was damaged in the process, such as phones, which in a time like this would be rather essential to communicate with loved ones or to seek help.

Last we heard, Apple was apparently unofficially offering free iPhone repairs to customers who might have had their devices damaged during Hurricane Harvey, where the company is reported to offer users free repairs for damages that would otherwise not be covered. Now it seems that Google is doing the same for Pixel owners, thanks to a collaboration with uBreakiFix.

In a post on uBreakiFix’s website, the company announced that customers who have had their Pixel phones damage during Hurricane Harvey are eligible for free repairs. “In an effort to provide some small relief to our customers and friends in the Houston area who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, we’ve teamed up with Google to offer free repairs on all Pixels.”

Affected customers can take their devices to a variety of uBreakiFix locations which includes The Heights, Rice Village, Pearland, Pasadena, West Chase, Sugar Land, and Webster, all of which are located in the Houston area. However note that these free repairs will only be valid until the 30th of September, so you might want to hurry if you want to take advantage of the offer.

Twitter Appears To Be Testing A Tweetstorm Feature In Its Android App

Presumably the initial idea behind Twitter is for users to share short status updates, or what some might term as micro-blogging, where the limitation of 140-characters meant that users couldn’t make lengthy posts. However users have naturally found a way around it, which is by posting consecutive posts which when chained together is known as a tweetstorm.

Now it looks like Twitter could be getting ready to officially embrace the practice, as discovered by Twitter user Devesh Logendran who tipped The Next Web’s Matt Navarra (via TechCrunch) about the feature. Basically it seems that there is a hidden feature within the Twitter Android app that allows users to post tweetstorms via a user interface, meaning that users won’t have to manually break down their tweets, or turn to third-party apps.

When asked to comment about the feature, Twitter told TechCrunch that they have no comment to share on the record. However given that many tech companies do test out new and experimental features from time to time, we guess Twitter is playing its cards close to their chest until the feature is ready or when they decide to launch it.

However we have seen how Twitter is trying to embrace the idea of longer tweets. For example the company has made some changes where they are “extending” the 140-character limit by not counting things like usernames, so for them to test out allowing users to post tweetstorms easily doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.
