Marvel, Star Wars Shows To Be Exclusive To Disney’s Streaming Service

As you might have heard, just last month Disney announced their plans to launch their own video streaming service which is expected to be ready in 2019. It was unclear at that time as to what this would mean for Disney’s other shows from Marvel and Star Wars, and it was suggested that the company could launch separate streaming services for those.

We have to admit that paying for a subscription just for Marvel or Star Wars-based shows doesn’t seem like a very good idea, and it seems that Disney thinks so as well as the company has recently confirmed Marvel and Star Wars shows will be exclusively streamed on its new streaming service.

The upcoming service is expected to also feature four to five original Disney series, and will also play home to several exclusive Disney movies. According to Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, he also suggested that for once, the international availability of Disney’s upcoming streaming platform could actually arrive before the US due to streaming rights clearances, but nothing has been set in stone yet.

As for pricing, there was no mention of how much this new service is expected to cost, but given the various streaming services available, we can only imagine that Disney probably won’t stray too far from what’s being offered these days. In the meantime Netflix is still hoping that once their partnership with Disney ends that they will still be able to continue offering some of the company’s shows past 2019.

Equifax Confirms Security Breach, 143 Million US Customer Data Exposed

You would think that in this day and age where our technology is becoming more sophisticated and advanced that our security would be as well. However if anything, it seems that these days we are hearing more and more companies experiencing security breaches that have unfortunately exposed user data in the process.

In a recent announcement by Equifax (via Engadget), the company has confirmed that they have experienced a security breach in which 143 million US customer data has since been exposed, with the possibility that customers in the UK and Canada might have been affected as well. This includes information like customer names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, driver’s license numbers, as well as credit card numbers and dispute documents.

According to the company, this security breach was discovered on the 29th of July, with the belief that the intrusion itself could have taken place between mid-May to July. When the breach was discovered, Equifax claims to have taken immediate action to stop it and hired a cybersecurity firm to learn more about it and exactly how much data might have been stolen/exposed in the process.

If you want to know if your information might have been part of the breach, Equifax has since setup a dedicated website where you can check. The company is also offering customers free credit file monitoring and identity theft protection in the form of TrustedID Premier.

Fitbit To Bring Glucose Monitoring To Its Ionic Smartwatch

If you’re a diabetic who needs to keep constant tabs on their glucose levels, then you know that more traditional methods of doing so will require you to stop what you’re doing to check your glucose levels, either by drawing blood or through other cumbersome methods. This is why we have heard rumors that Apple could be interested in a non-invasive method of measuring glucose levels through the Apple Watch.

Whether or not those rumors are true remains to be seen, but in the meantime it looks like Fitbit has something for diabetics who might appreciate the constant monitoring. Fitbit has recently announced a collaboration with DexCom in which starting in 2018, Fitbit’s newly-launched Ionic smartwatch will be able to show users data from the DexCom G5 Mobile sensor.

For those unfamiliar, the G5 Mobile sensor is a sensor worn just under the skin that will be able to show the wearer’s vitals every 5 minutes, thus providing users with a constant method of monitoring their glucose levels. However this is contingent on users buying the G5 Mobile sensor first which will cost $900.

Note that the DexCom G5 Mobile sensor already works with other wearables like the Apple Watch, but if you don’t own the Apple Watch and are considering the Fitbit Ionic, then know that the DexCom G5 Mobile sensor will also work with the device starting next year. There are rumors that future Apple Watch devices could offer up non-invasive glucose monitoring, but until then it looks like this could be the next best thing.

New Report ‘Confirms’ iPhone 8 Will Not Have Touch ID

Touch ID has become somewhat standard and expected from the iPhone ever since Apple introduced it on the iPhone 5s. However we have heard rumors that the upcoming iPhone 8 could skip Touch ID and introduce a new facial scanning feature as an alternative, which is kind of a risky move.

This is because we have seen how facial recognition systems have been beaten using photographs, and for Apple to not offer up a backup biometric security system is a huge gamble. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but a new report from The Wall Street Journal (via BGR) has “confirmed” that the upcoming iPhone 8 will not sport Touch ID.

The report claims that Apple had initially tried to put Touch ID on the iPhone 8 underneath the device’s display, which is what we have been hearing about, but unfortunately they could not get it to work properly in time for the phone’s launch, and decided to do away with the feature entirely. In fact there have been some rumors suggesting that at one point Apple could have toyed with the idea of maybe putting Touch ID on the back of the phone.

Like we said, offering facial scanning (apart from passcode) as the only form of biometric security does seem like a big risk on Apple’s part, especially if it does not function the way they are intending it to, but we guess this is something we’ll have to wait and see come 12th of September which is when the new iPhones will be announced.
