The Walkman is alive

With a streaming-capable smartphone in most pockets, it’d be easy to assume that the bottom has fallen out of the standalone media player segment altogether. Sony, though, would argue that’s an incorrect assumption, and point to its long-standing Walkman line as evidence of that. Latest to join the clan is the Sony Walkman NW-ZX300, freshly unveiled at IFA 2017 in … Continue reading

Vevo is working on a 'TRL-style' live show

Marshall Upgrades Its Wireless Speakers With Multi-Room Audio

#IFA2017 – The benefit to wireless speakers is that you can place them anywhere, which in theory should allow you to create a multi-room setup. However Marshall’s previous wireless speakers were unfortunately missing that feature, or at least until now where at IFA 2017, the company has updated its wireless lineup with support for multi-room audio.

The company has upgraded three of its more popular wireless speaker models: the Acton, the Stanmore, and the Woburn. Apart from introducing multi-room audio support, some of the changes that are being made to the speakers include an updated control panel where there will now be a new dial where users can adjust between choosing WiFi, Bluetooth, preset internet radio, or Spotify stations.

The other dials will also allow users to adjust the sound of the speakers, such as volume, bass, and treble. In addition to multi-room support, the upgraded speakers will also support Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay, and there will also be a 3.5mm audio in jack, meaning that there will be a ton of connectivity options for users to choose from.

Pre-orders for these upgraded speakers will begin today, the 1st of September, and will be shipping out to customers on the 21st of September. They are priced at $350 for the Acton, $450 for the Stanmore, and $600 for the Woburn.

Jabra Unveils Elite 25e Wireless Headphones

#IFA2017 – Wireless headphones seem to be the trend at IFA this year, and the folks at Jabra are certainly helping it along as the company has recently announced the Jabra Elite 25e. As you can see in the photo above, these are “true” wireless headphones unlike the Beoplay E8, but rather they are also known as “neckbuds”.

However they are wireless and the cable only serves to sit around the back of the user’s neck, which might be a more preferred setup for those who want to use it for more vigorous activities and don’t want to risk the earbuds falling out and losing them. According to Jabra, the company is boasting a very impressive battery life for the Elite 25e at 18 hours of use. Of course whether or not you’ll be able to get those numbers remains to be seen.

They are also IP54 certified meaning that they are water-resistant to a certain degree, so using them while you workout should not pose a problem. There is also a dedicated voice control button that lets users activate Siri or Google Assistant, and also switch between calls, read messages, control music playback, and so on.

The best part is that they’re not particularly expensive either at $79. They will be made available early October so do keep an eye out for their availability if you are interested.

Apple Watch Reportedly Accounts For Half Of Smartwatches Shipped Last Quarter

Until today Apple has yet to officially reveal exactly how many Apple Watches that they have shipped or sold. Instead we have to rely on market research firms and analytics for those figures, which may or may not necessarily be the most accurate. However for the most part they all seem to agree that the Apple Watch is doing pretty well.

In fact according to the latest data by research firm IDC that was shared with MacRumors, it seems that the Apple Watch accounted for nearly half of smartwatches shipped in the last quarter. Assuming the figures are accurate, we are looking at 3.4 million units shipped which represents 49.6% of the total number of smartwatches shipped in Q2 2017.

Coming in second place is Samsung at 800,000 units which accounted for 11%, and Garmin in third place at 600,000 units at 9.3%. As we have noted previously, shipped units don’t necessarily indicate the number of units sold, but for the most part it does indicate the demand, plus we doubt that Apple would ship considerably more units than what is being demanded at the moment.

As far as the official figures are concerned, Apple has lumped the Apple Watch into its “Other Products” category in its financials which accounted for $2.7 billion in revenue in the June quarter, although exactly how much of it is thanks to the Apple Watch is unclear.

Razer Blade Pro Gaming Laptop Is Now More Affordable

Last year Razer launched the Razer Blade Pro gaming laptop and it is a beast of a machine. However as is the case with most gaming laptops, it does not come cheap and with a price tag of $3,700, it certainly put it well out of the hands of most customers who might not see spending that much money as a very prudent investment.

However if you’ve been thirsting for the laptop, you’ll be pleased to learn that Razer has announced an updated version of the Blade Pro which will be priced considerably cheaper. It will still be pretty damn expensive as far as laptops are concerned, but it is significantly cheaper than the previous model which should make it more accessible, although there are some concessions that you’ll have to make.

For starters the laptop will pack a GeForce GTX 1060 GPU and its display will be of the Full HD non-touch variety, which means that you’ll be “sacrificing” a more powerful GPU and display in the process, but if these are features you think you can live without then the new Blade Pro could be for you.

It will also be shipping with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, which is half of the 32GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD offered in last year’s model. It will also do away with the built-in mechanical keyboard and will be replaced with a standard membrane model, however if you can live with these specs, the new Razer Blade Pro will be priced at $2,300, which like we said is much cheaper than its predecessor, although still pricey as far as laptops are concerned.

Razer Partners With CyberPowerPC For Razer-Themed Desktops

Razer has a reputation for creating gaming accessories and peripherals that glow in a variety of colors, and if you’re looking for a desktop PC that offers up a similar look/feel to your Razer gaming devices, you might be interested to learn that Razer has announced a partnership with CyberPowerPC to create Razer-themed desktop PCs.

According to the press release, “The CYBBERPOWERPC P400 “Designed by Razer” PC case is an evolution of CYBERPOWERPC’s popular P400 ATX case which features a matte black finish and a tinted tempered glass side panel. The design also includes Razer’s universally recognized and trademarked three-headed snake logo backlit on the front panel. Gamers will be able to customize the internal hardware to their personal specifications from inclusion of water-cooling and memory to specific motherboards and graphic cards.”

If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is actually because this isn’t the first time that we’re seeing Razer-themed desktop PCs. For example PC components maker NZXT also has a Razer-themed case, although perhaps it isn’t quite as extensive as the version that Razer and CyberPowerPC will be offering.

There is no mention of pricing but the CyberPowerPC P400 case will be available via the company’s website and select retailers starting in October.
