Sennheiser Unveils Wireless Momentum Free Headphones

#IFA2017 – As we’re starting to see the trend of handset makers ditch the headphone jack, much to the annoyance of many users, it also means that need for wireless headphones are on the rise. To be fair wireless headphones have always been a convenient solution, but they’ve always been more optional rather than a necessity, at least until more recent times.

Now if you’re in the market for a new set of wireless headphones, you might be interested to learn that Sennheiser has announced a new pair of wireless earbuds in the form of the Momentum HD1 Free. These are the company’s latest wireless headphones and are essentially a less bulky take on the Sennheiser HD1 wireless in-ear headphones that was launched at CES earlier this year.

As you can see from the photo, Sennheiser has done away with the neck band and instead is relying on just the cable. This means that stowing them away is a lot easier, and thanks to magnetic earpieces, they can clip together and be worn around the neck when not in use. The headphones will rely on Bluetooth 4.2 and will have Qualcomm’s apt-X and AAC codec support.

The Momentum HD1 Free will also feature 6 hours of battery life, a three-button remote, and an in-line microphone. No word on pricing just yet, but the Sennheiser HD1 in-ear wireless headphones retail for around $200, so we expect it should be around that range as well. They are expected to be available come October 2017.

DMV Gives Samsung Permission To Test Self-Driving Cars In California

Self-driving cars appear to be the way of the future which is why it is understandable that there are quite a few companies who are hopping on board the bandwagon. In fact earlier this year it was reported that Samsung was given approval to test self-driving cars in South Korea, and now it looks like they’ll be testing it stateside as well.

According to reports, California’s DMV has given Samsung the greenlight to test self-driving cars on the streets of California. Samsung won’t actually be building the cars themselves, but rather it seems that they are using modified Hyundai cars that come equipped with a variety of sensors and other hardware that are built by Samsung.

Samsung’s self-driving plans aren’t new, and in fact it was reported back in 2015 that the company was interested in developing the technology. However for Samsung it seems to be less about building the cars, but rather about building the technology to power these cars, so we doubt that Samsung has plans to go up against the likes of carmakers anytime soon.

In fact Samsung’s strategy seems to be in line with what other companies are doing, such as Apple who has recently also been approved to test self-driving cars.

Facebook Using AI To Help Improve 360-Degree Photos

Not all photos are taken equally. There are some who are more skilled at composition a shot and editing it, while some don’t really care and just upload whatever they capture, blurry photo or not. However Facebook wants to change that, or at least help users improve their photos when it comes to 360-degree photo uploads.

As you might have heard, Facebook is allowing users to upload 360-degree photos onto its platform, where when paired with a VR headset will allow users to enjoy these photos in virtual reality. However like we said, not all photos are captured equally, but Facebook is now planning to use AI to help improve photos uploaded onto the social network.

Basically Facebook’s system will take a photo and outputs a pair of values for the tilt and roll correction needed in order to bring the horizon of a photo in line, where they’re ultimately trying to avoid users feeling like they are viewing an image that is crooked, which could be a problem especially when viewed in a more immersive setting like VR.

However it should be noted that right now the system isn’t in production, but Facebook is researching it and apparently it shows some promise, so that’s something that we could look forward to in the future.

Android Wear 1.0 will also get standalone apps

Android Wear apps have the ability to be installed and used independently of a smartphone app, but there are two catches. One is that the smartwatch needs to be able to connect to the Internet on its own, but only if the need arises. The other, harder requirement is that they are running Android Wear 2.0. Older smartwatches are more … Continue reading

Sony’s smart speaker has a low-tech feature they all should have

Sometimes the very simplest features are those you come to appreciate most of all. Sony clearly got that memo, anyway, hence the one basic piece of tech on its new LF-S50G smart speaker which, though not as clever as the Google Assistant, still elevates the gadget above its increasingly numerous rivals. That advantage? A clock. That’s right. Sony has bucked … Continue reading
