Fitbit officially unveiled its first proper smartwatch a couple of weeks back. The company has now confirmed the price and release date for its Ionic smartwatch. When Fitbit announced Ionic smartwatch last month, it didn’t confirm when the wearable device would be released. The wait will soon be over, though, for those who want to pick one up.
The Fitbit Ionic smartwatch will be available for purchase from major retailers across the globe starting October 1st. The device is going to cost $299.95.
Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Target will be selling the smartwatch in the United States. It will be sold in three color combinations.
For $299.95, customers get a smartwatch that delivers advanced health and fitness features, on-device guided workouts, automatic sleep tracking, cross-platform smartphone compatibility as well as up to five days of battery life on a single charge.
Fitbit will release the software development kit tomorrow so that developers can create their own apps for the smartwatch. They will be able to submit those apps for review and availability in the Fitbit App Gallery starting this fall.
“These features, coupled with Ionic’s broad compatibility across Android, iOS and Windows platforms, means consumers around the globe never need to choose between their watch and their phone,” said James Park, the co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.
Fitbit’s first pair of headphones, the Fitbit Flyer, will also go on sale come October 1st for $129.95.

It hasn’t been long since Dara Khosrowshahi took the top job over at Uber. The CEO has now penned an open letter, apologizing for the “mistakes we’ve made,” following the events of last Friday. London’s transport regulator TfL announced on Friday that it will not renew Uber’s license to operate in the UK’s capital as it finds that the company is not “fit and proper” to operate.
Khosrowshahi calls for change in the letter, adding that it’s his intention for Uber to “run our business with humility, integrity and passion.” He also thanked Uber users for the support over the last few days.
That’s probably an indirect reference to an online petition started by Uber that’s calling on TfL to reverse its decision. The petition has gained more than 750,000 signatures though it’s unclear how many of them are from Uber users based in London.
“We will appeal the decision on behalf of millions of Londoners, but we do so with the knowledge that we must also change. As Uber’s new CEO it’s my job to help Uber write its next chapter,” he writes.
Uber has previously said that there are more than 3.5 million Uber users in London and more than 40,000 drivers catering to growing demand. It intends to appeal TfL’s decision to revoke its license.

One of the largest accounting firms in the United States and indeed the world, Deloitte, has reported that it was the victim of a cyberattack that it caught back in March this year. The company believes that the breach might have begun in October last year which it was eventually able to catch in March of this year.
Deloitte offers its clients a wide range of services such as merger and acquisition assistance, tax and auditing services, and even cybersecurity advice. Therefore, it’s ironic that the company’s own systems have been breached.
It’s not known at this point in time who is responsible for this cyberattack which involved a breach of Deloitte’s email service that exposed five million emails. Aside from emails with sensitive attachments, hackers are also believed to have obtained usernames, passwords, IP addresses, workers’ health records, and business information.
The breach has reportedly been traced back to an administrator’s account that was password protected but didn’t have the additional security layer of two-step verification. According to the Guardian, the company has notified six of its clients that their information has been affected in this breach.
A spokesperson for Deloitte told the scribe that “In response to a cyber incident, Deloitte implemented its comprehensive security protocol and began an intensive and thorough review including mobilising a team of cybersecurity and confidentiality experts inside and outside of Deloitte.”
Deloitte has said that it will continue to evaluate this matter and will take additional steps as required.
