Samsung Darth Vader and Stormtrooper Robot Vacuum Cleaners: Suck! Suck! Suck!

Have you ever wondered how they keep things so clean on the Death Star? Well it turns out those little droids running around the floor of the place are little vacuum cleaners. At least that’s what I’ve been told. For those of you who want your floors as spotless as the Empire’s, check out these fun new vacuum cleaners from Samsung.

The POWERbot VR7000 Star Wars limited edition vacuum comes in Darth Vader and Stormtrooper versions, both of which look so much cooler than ordinary robot vacuum cleaners. In addition to keeping floors clean, they both make sound effects from the movies.

In addition to looking awesome, they’re pretty sophisticated robotic vacuums, offering high suction with clog resistance, and capable of mapping out the ideal path around your room to cover every inch, right up to the corners and along the edges of the wall.

Both vacuums are available for pre-order now from the Samsung website, with the Darth Vader version selling for $799(USD), and the stormtrooper going for $699. The $100 price premium for Vader seems excessive to me, but I guess they’re just taking advantage of the laws of supply and demand. Maybe you can Force choke Samsung into giving you a better deal.

Also, whenever I think of a vacuum being run by guy in a dark helmet, Mega Maid comes to mind…

Apple Expected To Only Ship 20 Million iPhone X Units This Year

By now many of you guys have probably heard that Apple’s upcoming iPhone X is expected to encounter delays and supply issues. There are a myriad of reports concerning what could be the issue causing the delay, although Apple has yet to officially acknowledge any of this, although we doubt that they do.

Unfortunately these supply issues could pose a problem for Apple’s investors and financials because in a report from the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple is only expected to ship as many as 20 million iPhone X units by the end of the year. Now compared to the competition, 20 million is a huge number of phones that are going out, but apparently this is half of what Apple had expected to ship out in 2017.

This is pretty much in line with what we have been hearing which is that the iPhone X will be extremely limited in quantity at the start. There have been earlier reports saying that supply is only expected to normalize towards the middle of 2018, so if you’re looking foward to the iPhone X it seems that you could be in for a wait. Pre-orders will be kicking off on the 27th of October and the iPhone X will be shipping out on the 3rd of November, so you best hurry if you don’t want to find yourself waiting for months on end for the handset.

LinkedIn’s Messaging Gets New Smart Replies Feature

One of the nifty tricks and features introduced to Google’s Gmail platform is the smart reply feature. Basically based on the content of the message, Gmail will be able to offer users several different replies that might be suitable. These replies are usually short but they’re good enough to get the message across or used as an acknowledgement.

Now it seems that LinkedIn wants in on the feature as well and has announced the launch of a similar feature of their own for its messaging platform. According to the company, “To help you shave a little time and more easily respond to your messages, we’ve made our reply suggestions smarter. Using machine learning, we’ll show you suggestions that are more contextual and relevant to the conversation you’re having. We’ll suggest at most three responses based on the message you’ve received. For example, if an old friend asks if you’re available to catch up over coffee next week, you may see suggestions like “Yes I am,” or “Sure!” or “What time?””

Essentially it sounds like it does what Gmail already does, except for LinkedIn. According to the company, they plan on expanding on the feature in the future to make it more personalized, such as including names. “Coming soon, we’ll be personalizing your smart replies further so that the suggestions are even more fitting for the conversation you’re having. For example, you may soon see a response like “Thanks, Joe!” versus the more simplified “Thanks.””

The feature should be rolling out for users on its mobile app and in English, with LinkedIn promising that support for additional languages will be coming in the future.

Google Wants To Help Developers Make Better Websites

Back in the day when the internet was still relatively young, simply having an email or a web presence was enough. Of course over the years having a website has become key and crucial and it’s rare that you encounter a company that does not have a website, which also means that requirements have changed.

Now it is no longer enough to have a website, but your website must be functional and user-friendly, which is why design matters. Google certainly knows that and wants to lend a hand with the launch of the Chrome User Experience Report. This is a public dataset containing key user experience metrics taken from Google’s Chrome browser from users who have opted in for statistic reporting.

Basically what this means is that web developers will be able to see and analyze the various experiences that users have had when browsing websites using Chrome. It will also help developers identify what they have done well or if there are any areas for improvement. It seems that it will also be capable of identify trends so that developers can stay abreast as opposed to playing catchup.

According to Google, “The initial release includes data from a sample of ten thousand origins and focuses on loading metrics, though we hope to expand coverage in future iterations.” If you’re a web developer looking to improve on their website, then head on over to the Chrome User Experience Report website for the details.

Apple Lists Cars With Wireless Charging For The iPhone 8, iPhone X

Wireless charging is not new. In fact you could consider it to be somewhat mature, although in typical Apple fashion, it took the Cupertino company years before they finally adopted it with this year’s iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X. Given that Apple has decided to adopt the Qi standard, it also means that existing Qi wireless chargers will play nicely with the devices as well.

In fact there are actually cars that do come with built-in wireless charging, and if this is something you might be interested in for your next car purchase, Apple has actually done its customers a favor by listing carmakers that do offer wireless charging in their vehicles on its website (via 9to5Mac). This includes Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, PSA, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. However not all models from these companies offer wireless charging, so you will have to double check whether it is an option offered.

Apple has also listed cars by Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GM that do come with wireless charging, which includes the 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 GMC Yukon, 2018 GMC Sierra, 2018 Chevrolet Bolt, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, 2018 Chevrolet Suburban, 2018 Cadillac Escalade, and the 2018 Buick Enclave.

So if you’re in the market for a new car and would like to take wireless charging features into account as one of the factors that will influence your decision, perhaps this list might of be interest to you.

HTC U11+ Might Not Be Announced In November

Earlier this year HTC launched the HTC U Ultra handset which was supposed to be the company’s flagship. However it wasn’t exactly the most impressive of phones, which led to HTC launching the HTC U11 several months that represented a more sincere effort. However despite its features, it seemed to lack in certain areas compared to other flagships of 2017.

This has led to rumors that HTC could be making another attempt in 2017 with the HTC U11+ whose render was leaked recently. There have been claims that suggest that the phone could be announced at HTC’s 2nd of November event, but those rumors appear to have been debunked by famed leakster/insider Evan Blass.

In a tweet by Blass, he claims that the HTC U11+ will not be announced at the November event. Instead the event is said to focus on a mid-ranger HTC U Life. It is unclear if this means that the HTC U11+ was not actually meant for a November launch, or if its launch had been delayed to another time, but either way given Blass’ track record for insider information, perhaps there might be truth to his claims. That and the fact that HTC would launch three flagship-like smartphones in 2017 does seem like a bit too much.
