By now the legal dispute between Apple and Qualcomm has to be pretty well-known for those following the tech news, and just like in the lawsuit against Samsung, it seems that Apple has no intention of giving Qualcomm anymore business if they can help it, or at least that’s according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, they are claiming that based on information provided to them by people familiar with the matter that Apple is trying to find ways to design 2018’s iPhones and iPads that will not have to rely on Qualcomm’s components. As it stands both Intel and Qualcomm provide the modems used for Apple’s iPhones, but if the report proves to be true, Apple could source exclusively from Intel or maybe even go with another company such as MediaTek.
The report further alleges that Qualcomm is withholding software that Apple needs to test LTE in future iPhone and iPad prototypes, but Qualcomm has asserted that this is not true and that Apple had already tested the chips that they might use for future iPhones. Qualcomm also adds that they are “committed to supporting Apple’s new devices”.
We suppose we’ll have to wait until 2018’s teardown to find out if Qualcomm really has been left out of the loop, but given what we’ve seen with Samsung, as much as Apple tries to find alternative suppliers, sometimes there really isn’t much choice.

Instagram’s Story feature has been one of the platform’s more successful features since it was launched, despite the fact that it does seem to be a pretty blatant copy of Snapchat’s own feature. That being said, Instagram has recently pushed out an update that makes some changes/improvements to it.
This comes in the form of mid-feed preview tiles for Stories which was discovered over the weekend by Chris Messina. If you have been using Instagram then you know that sometimes when you scroll through your feed, you might be reminded to check out Instagram Stories of people you follow that you haven’t seen yet. However as you can see in the screenshot above, the mid-feed preview tiles means that you can get a sneak peek as to what the story might be about.

Based on that and depending on your interests, you can choose whether or not you want to watch it. Prior to this, users had no way of knowing what kind of content is being show inside of an Instagram Story until they actually click it. We suppose having a preview does prevent us from wasting time on clicking, and in some cases avoid awkward moments when an Instagram Story might not be safe for work, or if music is going to suddenly start blasting out of your phone.
Instagram has confirmed the new feature to TechCrunch in a statement that reads, “We recently updated the design of the stories bar that you see while scrolling through feed. This update makes it easier to preview the stories from the people and accounts you care about.”

Earlier this year you might recall that Microsoft launched a new Outlook.com Premium subscription which costs customers $19.95 a year. The premium subscription essentially removed ads from the email service as well as offer up various new features and security tools for those who might need it.
Unfortunately it looks like the plan was short-lived as Microsoft has since announced that they will be closing off new subscriptions to the service. “The Outlook.com Premium standalone offering is now closed to new subscribers. Current subscribers can renew their subscriptions and continue receiving the same benefits. We have no plans to discontinue the standalone subscription for existing subscribers at this time.”
Instead it seems that Microsoft has decided that they will bundle Outlook.com’s Premium features for Office 365 Home and Personal subscriptions, so if you didn’t really need it before but are already subbed to Office 365, we guess this is kind of a nice bonus. Essentially users who have paid and do plan to keep paying for the Premium subscriptions can continue to do so, at least until Microsoft decides to axe it for good.
However for those who just want the Premium features but not a subscription to Office 365 Home or Personal, then we guess you’d be out of luck.

Last month we heard the rumors that HTC has an Android One handset in the works in the form of the HTC U11 Life. While Android One devices aren’t new, most of them typically find their way to emerging markets where consumers are more price sensitive, but a recent report has suggested that the HTC U11 Life could be finding its way onto T-Mobile.
This initially came as a post on Reddit by someone alleging to be a T-Mobile store manager, but it seems that T-Mobile themselves might have confirmed the handset’s launch, thanks to someone at the company accidentally publishing a support page for the HTC U11 Life (via Android Police).
The support page has also revealed pretty much all of the specs of the phone, leaving nothing to the imagination. For starters we are looking at the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset where the phone will also be accompanied by 3GB of RAM and will sport a 5.2-inch Full HD display.
We’re also looking at the use of a 16MP front-facing camera, a 16MP rear-facing camera, a 2,600mAh battery, IP67 certification for dust and water-resistance, and it is expected to come with Android 7.1.1 preinstalled. HTC is expected to host an event on the 2nd of November where it is possible the phone will be announced. Earlier rumors have suggested that it might be for the HTC U11+, but conflicting reports are claiming that it isn’t.
