Google Wi-Fi Site Blocking Feature Will Appeal To Families

The Google Wi-Fi router is a great option for those who want an effortless setup experience as well as advanced controls. Google continues to add new features to provide more value for money to customers who are using the Google Wi-Fi router. The company today announced that it’s adding a site blocking feature to the router, one that’s really going to appeal to families with kids.

You’re never really that far away from inappropriate content online and it’s important to ensure that kids don’t stumble upon that.

While there are countless services that help parents ensure that their kids are protected from inappropriate content online, Google Wi-Fi now offers a similar feature that’s easier to setup.

The Site Blocking feature on Google Wi-Fi allows parents to block access to more than 8 million non-kid-friendly websites on any device with just a few taps in the Google Wi-Fi app. The feature relies on Google’s SafeSearch technology.

Google created SafeSearch back in 2009 to help filter explicit content from Google Search results. The Google Wi-Fi team has worked with the SafeSearch team to apply some of their technology to the router.

SafeSearch constantly crawls the internet for new inappropriate sites so the list of explicit sites blocked by Google Wi-Fi will be updated automatically in real time. The new feature can be configured from the Google Wi-Fi app.

Samsung Connect Tag Is A New Multi-Purpose Tracking Device

Samsung today announced the launch of a new multi-purpose cellular IoT tracking device called Samsung Connect. It’s similar in function to a lot of trackers out there that you can use to keep an eye on things like handbags, wallets, and even on your pets. The company calls its Connect Tag a new way to keep track of loved ones, valuables, and more.

Samsung says that the Connect Tag is the world’s first consumer device to use narrowband network technology, that’s a specially designed cellular communication standard for small data utilization with less power usage and the ability to connect to the internet for improved location services.

The Samsung Connect Tag provides smart location notifications based on a NB-IoT or Cat.M1 network, relying on internet services to provide accurate location information for the safety and security of loved ones.

It’s going to work with GPS, Wi-Fi and Cell ID so that users can receive accurate location information both indoors and outdoors. The Connect Tag can be attached to a young kid’s backpack or clipped to a dog’s collar. It can be secured in the key ring to ensure you never lose track of them again.

The device is tied to Samsung’s SmartThings IoT ecosystem. It can work in conjunction with other smart devices. For example, the geo-fence feature will notify the chosen smart devices when the lights and TV have to be turned on as the owner comes back home after a run.

The device itself has a very compact size and has IP68 water and dustproof rating. The battery lasts for up to seven days on a single charge. Samsung is going to showcase this product at its developer conference on October 18th-19th in San Francisco, California.

AT&T Releases Android 7.1.1 Nougat For Galaxy J3 (2016)

AT&T has started rolling out a new firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) on its network. The entry-level handset was released last year and many who own it have been waiting to get a taste of Nougat on their handset. The wait is finally over for them. AT&T has now released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat for the Galaxy J3 (2016) on its network.

The carrier has started rolling out firmware update J320AUCU3BQI5 for the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) on its network. The update weighs in at 1GB but that’s not surprising given that it’s a major release. It brings a handful of new features for the device, such as an improved Doze mode, an improved notifications experience, and more.

The official changelog for this update on AT&T’s website reveals that this update also brings the fix for the Blueborne exploit. This Bluetooth-based exploit was discovered recently and it affects a significant number of devices, not just on Android but on other platforms like Windows and Linux as well.

Last but not the least, the Android security patch for August 2017 has been included in this update as well. Samsung hasn’t really released the September patch for many devices as it has been busy with rolling out the Blueborne fix.

Galaxy J3 (2016) owners on AT&T should have received an update notification on their handset by now, the carrier released Android 7.1.1 Nougat for this handset over-the-air not too long ago.
