Sprint Unlimited Plan Price Increased For A Single Line

If you want to subscribe to Sprint’s unlimited plan for a single line, it’s going to cost you more now than it used to as the promotional pricing is no longer being offered. The carrier has increased the price of its unlimited plan for a single line. It previously cost $50 but you’ll no longer find the plan for this price on Sprint’s website. The change has also been confirmed by a spokesperson for the carrier.

Sprint’s $50 unlimited data plan is no longer being offered for a single line. The same plan is now being offered to customers for $10, so they need to pay $60 per month for this plan. A spokesperson for Sprint confirmed to CNET that the carrier has made this change and that it went into effect on Friday.

The carrier introduced its Unlimited Freedom plan earlier this year for $50. The discounted rater was offered to existing and new customers for the first line. The promotional rate has bee offered for a couple of months but Sprint has now decided that it’s time to raise the price by $10.

Existing customers who signed up for this plan will be able to keep the $50 rate until June 30th, 2018. They will have to pay $60 per month after that.

OnePlus Will Curb User Data Collection

It was recently discovered that OnePlus handsets were sending back a lot of analytics data to the company. It’s common for smartphones to send some data back to the manufacturer but in this case, it was a lot more than usual. Naturally, there was an outcry due to privacy concerns. OnePlus offered an explanation first but since that didn’t really do much to allay fears, it has now decided to restrain data collection.

The data that OnePlus phones send back to the company include the phone number, the handset’s IMEI number, MAC addresses, names of mobile networks, IMSI prefixes, the phone’s serial number, Wi-Fi connection info, and apps that have been opened.

The company’s first response was that this data collection was optional and that it was meant to improve the user experience. OnePlus also said that this data wasn’t being shared with anyone else and that users could disable it from the settings menu.

Nevertheless, having this level of data collection enabled by default meant that most users didn’t even know this was going on and hence were deprived of their right to choose whether they wanted to opt in or not.

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei has now said that by the end of this month, all OnePlus handsets running OxygenOS will display a prompt in the setup wizard that will ask users if they want to join the company’s experience program, meaning if they would like to opt-in.

The wizard will indicate that this program will collect usage analytics and will also include a terms of service agreement that further explains the data collection. OnePlus has also confirmed that it will no longer be collecting phone numbers, Wi-Fi information, and MAC addresses regardless of whether the user has opted in or not.

The company hasn’t said if existing users will be allowed to delete the data that has already been collected, since most of them won’t wipe their phones just to set them up again in order to opt out of this program.

Original Pixel Phones Get Unlimited Google Photos Storage For Life

Google recently unveiled the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The company is offering unlimited Google Photos storage for original-quality images and video to those who purchase these handsets. However, there’s a caveat. The free storage will only be valid until 2020. That wasn’t the case with the original Pixel handsets and Google has reiterated that there’s no change in status for those handsets.

Google offered unlimited storage for photos and videos with the original Pixel and Pixel XL. It promised that customers will have unlimited storage for photos and videos in their original quality for life.

Pixel fans weren’t really excited to find out that the company has placed an expiry date on similar content that’s uploaded to Google Photos via the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Some were also concerned that Google would enforce this expire date for the original Pixel handsets as well.

That’s not the case, though. Google has confirmed that the original Pixel and Pixel XL handset owners will continue to receive free original-quality storage for photos and videos for life.

It’s great that Google is holding up its end of the bargain. After all, it did promise unlimited storage for life to customers who purchased the 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL handsets.

2018 iPhones May Not Have A Home Button

It hasn’t been that long since the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were launched and already we’re hearing rumors about Apple’s 2018 iPhones. It’s now being claimed that the iPhone 8 successor is not going to have a Home button. That also means Touch ID will not be present on next year’s iPhones. This could pave the way for Face ID to land on handsets other than the iPhone X.

Apple ditched the Home button for the iPhone X and replaced it with a facial recognition system called Face ID. However, reports suggest that the company’s suppliers are having issues with producing components required for this feature.

That’s one of the reasons why the iPhone X is expected to be limited in supply at launch and possibly well into 2018 if the issues persist. If Apple is planning a similar move for the 2018 iPhones, it would only do so if suppliers are capable of keeping up with the demand.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is the one predicting that the 2018 iPhones will not feature a Home button and will thus not have Touch ID. Kuo has a good track record when it comes to predicting Apple’s hardware changes, but it’s too soon to be sure at this point in time.

Apple’s new iPhones won’t be due until the fall next year so we’re definitely going to hear a lot of rumors about them before they’re officially unveiled.

Airbnb’s Branded Apartment Building Will Be Opened Next Year

Airbnb is the service that allows you to rent the spare room in your home to earn some cash on the side. You can even rent out your entire place if you wanted to. Airbnb has never directly been involved with the real estate, it has served as a platform that connects people who have space to rent and people looking to rent. That’s going to change next year when Airbnb will open its own branded apartment building Florida.

The Financial Times reports that Airbnb is teaming up with real estate developer Newgard Development Group to launch its own branded apartment building which will be called “Niido powered by Airbnb.”

The building is going to have 300 units and it will be built and owned by Newgard. Units will feature keyless entry and secure storage options that tenants will be able to use to store their stuff when they want to rent their unit on Airbnb. They will be allowed to sublet their units through Airbnb for up to 180 days annually.

All bookings will be managed through the Airbnb app. It’s essentially going to be a serviced apartment experience as a host will be present on site and mandatory cleaning will be included. The short term rental conditions will see Newgard taking a 25 percent cut and Airbnb a 3 percent cut with the rest going into the tenant’s pocket.

This won’t be the only building of its kind. Newgard has said that it’s going to construct over 2,000 Airbnb branded units over the next two years.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Launches Tech Education Platform

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has announced the launch of an online tech education platform called Woz U. The idea behind this project is to revamp higher education for the technology industry. Wozniak wants to help fill the employment gap for high-paying technology jobs across the United States.

Based in Arizona, Woz U has been launched with online programs but that’s not going to be where the buck stops. There are plans to add ground campuses in more than 30 cities across the United States and even internationally. “Our goal is to educate and train people in employable digital skills without putting them into years of debt,” said Wozniak.

A mobile app has been created by Woz U to help match people with the technology-based career best suited for them. The programs that have been launched so far by Woz U will train computer support specialists and software developers. Programs for data science, mobile apps, and cybersecurity will be launched soon.

One of Woz U’s platforms will work with technology companies to recruit and train as well as retrain a workforce through a subscription-based curriculum or on-site customized programs. Another platform is going to provide school districts with K-12 STEAM program in order to expose digital engineering concepts to students at a younger age.
