Mitte smart healthy water system

mitteThere are many different kinds of water purification systems out there in the market, with some of them even having special plates that will increase the alkaline count of the water, claiming to be able to play a role in alleviating certain illnesses and sickness. Mitte would like to jump aboard the water purification bandwagon, but offer a twist to the situation instead by being a smart healthy water system. In other words, it will make use of the distillation process to purify your water, but also offer customized mineral enhancements that ensures each cup of water you drink is healthy.

Tap water tends to carry its fair share of impurities and is not the best barometer for life giving water, while traditional water purification systems simply purify but do not enhance. Mitte will offer the best of everything, resulting in a mineralized and contaminant-free water wherever it is installed. Gaining inspiration from nature, Mitte will feature mineral cartridges that replicate the naturally occurring process whenever pure water flows through rocks at the source, picking up minerals as it flows. With Mitte, users have the option to personalize their daily drinking water via 3 different mineral cartridges that will carry varying levels of natural minerals and ingredients.

Right now available as a Kickstarter project, it can be yours for as low as a pledge of $234. This is definitely a new solution that will help to go up against a long term global issue: access to pure, healthy drinking water. The trio of mineral cartridges offered include Alkaline with a high pH level, a Balance cartridge that will add basic minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium so that a softer water with a neutral taste is created to deliver better tasting coffee or tea, while the Vitality cartridge offers a higher concentration of such basic minerals in addition to a dose of trace minerals like manganese, iron, selenium and zinc, targeting those who live an active lifestyle and would like to survive on a healthy diet. Each cartridge is able to produce 400 liters of pure and re-mineralized water.

Baidu Partners With Ride-Hailing Service, Furthers Self-Driving Efforts

It is safe to assume that in the future, self-driving cars will become the mainstay in transportation. This is because self-driving cars have the potential to be safer and more efficient due to it taking out the human factor in driving. However before that happens, there still needs to be a lot of work done.

However over in China, it seems that Baidu is doubling its efforts. The company has recently announced that they will be partnering up with local ride-hailing service Shouqi. This partnership will see Baidu offer the ride-hailing company access to tools it needs for its businesses, including map services, Apollo autonomous platform, and the DuerOS AI platform, and in return Shouqi will be providing Baidu with high-precision maps that will help its self-driving cars navigate the roads better.

Baidu’s self-driving car efforts are hardly a secret. The company has teamed up with a variety of companies in the past as well as recent times. For example the company had previously teamed up with the likes of BMW, and recently just a few months ago, they announced a partnership with Microsoft as well.

Earlier this month Baidu also announced their plans to expand not just into cars, but also self-driving buses which they’re hoping to get up and running by next year.

Nintendo CEO Promises ‘More Ways To Have Fun’ With The Switch

From what we can tell based on Nintendo’s latest earnings, the Switch console is doing quite well having sold more than 7 million units worldwide since its release in March earlier this year. For the most part a lot of the games released on the console have been well-received, but apparently that’s not all the company has up their sleeves.

In a tweet by The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, he quotes Nintendo’s CEO as saying that next year, there will be “more ways to have fun” with the console. It is a rather vague thing to say, and we guess it is also goes without saying that Nintendo definitely has more things planned for the Switch for the foreseeable future.

However some of the comments left on Mochizuki’s Twitter have suggested that maybe Nintendo’s CEO could be referencing non-video game ways of having fun, such as the ability to stream/watch videos online through platforms like Netflix. Nintendo has never denied the possibility that Netflix could arrive on the Switch.

Earlier this year the company said that such offerings will eventually come “in time”. However just last month it was rumored that Netflix’s app for the Switch was ready to go and is simply awaiting for Nintendo’s approval, but assuming that’s what’s Nintendo’s CEO was hinting at, we might have to wait until next year.

Nintendo Has More IPs Planned For The Switch Next Year

So far the games released on the Nintendo Switch are pretty much as expected. We’ve gotten titles from The Legend of Zelda franchise, and we’ve also gotten titles based around the Mario franchise, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and the recently released Super Mario Odyssey.

There are also plans to eventually bring a Pokemon RPG onto the Switch in the future, but like we said, titles based on those franchises have been more or less expected. However it seems that Nintendo has more tricks up their sleeves, according to a recent report by Famitsu (via Siliconera) in which they interviewed the producer of the Switch’s hardware and Super Mario Odyssey, Yoshiaki Koizumi.

During the interview, it seems that Koizumi was quoted as saying that Nintendo has still more IPs planned for the Switch that have yet to  be announced, and that these might not necessarily be titles that gamers would expect from the company. “Nintendo still have many IPs which have not come out for the system, and also more than just existing IPs in store as well. We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t even thought about, which will be released steadily over the next two years.”

That being said it will be interesting to see how these new franchises will perform. So far the top-selling games for the Switch so far are based on Zelda and Mario, but who knows, perhaps Nintendo could have something new and exciting that will quickly become a fan-favorite.

Facebook Denies They’re Eavesdropping On You Through Your Phone’s Mic

We know that many of you guys have had conversations with friends in real-life, only to open Facebook or Instagram and suddenly you’ve been served up ads based on the topic that you were just talking about. Some might chalk it up to coincidence, but others believe that Facebook is somehow listening to you through your phone’s microphone.

Whether or not you believe in that theory is a different story, but Facebook wants to settle the record once and for all that they do not, and never have, used your phone’s microphone to spy on you just to serve up ads. This is according to a tweet by Facebook’s VP of Ads Rob Goldman who posted on Twitter (via TNW), “I run ads product at Facebook. We don’t – and have never – used your microphone for ads. Just not true.”

When asked if this also applied to Instagram, Goldman replied in the affirmative, as in that neither does Instagram use your phone’s microphone to spy on you to serve up targeted ads. In recent times we’ve started to see how more companies are introducing privacy features to its software and services.

For example Apple introduced a new privacy feature for its Safari browser that prevents the tracking of users across the internet, meaning that those creepy targeted ads won’t follow you as you browse from website to website, something that advertisers weren’t too thrilled about. As for Facebook and Instagram, we guess the official word is that they do not eavesdrop on you, so it looks like freaky coincidence will have to do for now.

Augmented Reality App Shows How Indoor Plants Can Improve Air Quality

Augmented reality is set to be the next big thing in technology and one that we probably won’t be able to escape from in the future, or at least that’s what Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is suggesting. Now we’ve seen various uses of the technology, such as placing furniture around the home to get an idea of how it will match the rest of your home, but what about for plants?

Keeping indoor plants is more than just about decorating your home or adding a pop of color. Indoor plants have various health benefits, such as being able to lift your mood or even improve on the air quality, and a new app called Plant Life Balance has been launched that will take advantage of augmented reality technology to help users plan what kind of plants to place in their room, and where to put it.

The app was developed together with scientists at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne in Australia. The study involved at determining how different plants can absorb volatile organic compounds and other particles, such as dust, pollen, soot, and smoke. It also takes into consideration the size of the plant, how big its leaves are, how tall they are, and how a combination of big and small plants will help maximize the health benefits in the room.

It is a rather novel idea, but at the same time it is also an interesting way of applying augmented reality technology to help improve on our health. The app is available for download via the iTunes App Store or Google Play depending on your mobile platform.
